TERA Battle Arena: Modes, Gameplay and more!

**Story Mode**: In the story mode, guardians can experience previously unseen events from Arborea’s past and future.

**Battle Mode:** In Battle Mode, guardians can fight against other guardians in PvP to acquire Tower Fragments that have been turned into coins.

**Gameplay**: After matchmaking to enter the arena, 12 players choose their heroes.
The same heroes cannot be selected twice within a group. If players don’t choose a hero within the allotted time, they are assigned at random.
Once the battle has started, various items will appear at certain intervals.
• Their position is displayed on the mini-map.

The first group to loot 300 gold coins from monsters puts the game into overtime.
• Overtime lasts 3 minutes, after which time the group with the most gold coins wins!
After 30 minutes, the Battle Arena comes to an end and each group’s rank is determined by the amount of gold coins looted.

Patch Notes 97: TERA Goes 64-bit

Look out! The next major update is headed your way: patch 97 brings the upgrade to 64 bits that will massively improve the stability of the game client!

In addition to that, there’s a host of new content and items for you to discover. This includes a brand-new raid dungeon for 20 players, scrolls for changing equipment options, and the Rift’s Edge and an improved RK-9 Kennel will be opening their doors again. Please note that some of the names in these patch notes may differ from those in the final release.
New System Requirements
Let’s start with the most important news: with the switch to a 64-bit game client, the system requirements will change.

Warning: As we already stated a few weeks ago, TERA will no longer support 32-bit systems from this point forward. Players with older, 32-bit versions of Windows will therefore no longer be able to launch TERA.Here’s how to check your version of Windows:
  • Start Menu > “Control Panel”
  • Navigate to “System” (sub-item “Info” depending on the version)
  • Alternatively, use the “Windows key + Break” keyboard shortcut

The system requirements change as follows with patch 97:
  • Please note that the game directory will take up approx. 65 GB following the patch. However, additional space is needed to perform and run potential future updates. Additionally, the size of the update from patch 95 to 97 will be greater than the difference of approx. 13 GB, as many unused elements will be removed and existing ones will be modified.

64-bit Improvements at a GlanceThe improvements below are the advantages of the new client highlighted by the developers:
  • Unreal Engine 3 update
    • No immediately obvious changes to the graphics, but improvements for future new graphics
  • The 64-bit client allows more than 4 GB of RAM to be accessed
    • The vast majority of RAM client crashes should thus become a thing of the past!
  • DirectX 11
    • Graphics can be rendered by multiple processor cores, which will improve game performance and stability
  • Asynchronous loading
    • Various elements in TERA will now load independently of one another
    • For example, there should no longer be brief freezes while interface elements load (e.g. when you open your inventory)
  • Character and background elements
    • The reduction in the number of polygons will accelerate the transfer of character and background elements
    • This will result in fewer frame drops caused by lengthy loading
  • LOD (level of detail)
    • LOD settings have been added to the most visited zones in TERA so that the number of frames calculated is reduced while the graphical level of detail remains high and clear.
    • This maintains the nice background graphics without causing unnecessary calculations that affect the performance of the client
  • FPS controller
    • This patch introduces a new slider to the options, which allows you to set the game’s maximum frame rate between 24 and 300 FPS.
  • Loading UI elements
    • As part of the update, various elements of the game’s interface are loaded one by one instead of causing the game to visibly freeze when opened.
    • This may cause a window that you are opening for the first time after a client restart to be transparent for a second until all elements have been loaded. When opening the same element repeatedly, this should no longer be the case; once everything has been loaded, opening any UI element is lightning-fast.

Overall, you will see a more powerful game client after this patch, which is able to use your PC’s hardware more efficiently, offering you a better gaming experience.

PATCH FOR 64BIT CLIENT - PUBLIC TEST STARTS FRIDAY!

Preparations for patch 97 are ongoing - and now you can participate too! To add as many different PC configurations as possible to this test, every TERA player is welcome to get onto our public test system and start the new 64bit client for the first time.

The public test server "Atmorph" will start being accessible on Friday, July 24th, at around 6:00pm (CEST). It is scheduled to be closed down for the public on Tuesday, July 28th (13:00 CEST). An exact time will be provided later.

You want to participate? Here's how:

You need to have TERA on Steam
Right-Click on TERA in your Library
Select "Properties", then "Betas"
Select "public_beta" from the drop-down present here
A couple of important notices to consider:

The patch from "Live" to "Public_beta" is roughly 34 GB in download size
The complete download/client size of patch 97 is 65 GB (for those that don't have a live TERA installed on Steam)
What is expected of me?

Any feedback you have regarding the performance or stability of the client should be posted in our forum: PTS Feedback

Please include as many details as you can, including thing such as:

o Time when the issue occurred

o Location in-game / last action you took

o Status of your character (in combat / in-group / in PvP / standing in the open world / etc)

o Your PC configuration (mainly what type of CPU and GPU, RAM details, HDD/SSD, Operating System)
Frequently Asked Questions
1. I play via Steam already, can I participate?

Every TERA player can participate, including existing Steam players. Please note, that you will require to download roughly 34 GB again to switch back to your LIVE client. It is impossible to have two separate installations through Steam.

2. I play via the Gameforge Client, can I participate?

Yes! As a GF Client player, you will require to download the complete TERA Public_Beta client on steam (~65 GB) but can have your live client installed in the GF Client, and in parallel keep the public_beta installed in steam!

3. Do I need to start a new character on the Test System?

You will be required to create a character on the test system, as live characters aren't copied to it. On the plus side, new characters will start on level 70 and in Highwatch, equipped with a variety of items and tokens to get you started as if you'd been playing there for years!

4. I encountered an issue on the PTS, what can I do?

We won't provide customer support for issues on the PTS, including, but not limited to, issues around your character, items, or the server itself. Please do not contact our customer support for any PTS-inquiries, as no support can be provided. Instead please make sure to report your findings in the special forum section, as detailed above.

5. Any known issues I should be aware of?

The client used for this test is not the final version and thus might still have a plethora of unknown issues. Due to the nature of this test, the server might be unavailable sporadically, or for a prolonged period of time.

6. What content is in Patch 97?

For a general overview, please have a look into our Patch Preview we released Preview:

Outside of this game-related content, please note that in this client version, not all languages might be fully applied, or wordings for items, regions, or other content can change before the final patch.

7. There are two servers, but I can't access them?

Only the test system "W2 Atmorph (Beta)" is open to the public. If you cannot access this world, please double-check if your client is patched correctly. Alternatively, it could be that the server is overflowing with players in the worst-case scenario, and you will need to wait for a little.

The system "W1 Baldrov (internal)" is not intended for public access.

8. Why is X or Y missing?

This test system might not contain all the settings we're used to on the live servers. This includes, but is not limited to, events, token and NPC stores, dungeon drops, or similar.
