Dev Blog - Update includes fishing, spatial transformations and new enemy types

Double the Watery Fun - Catch the New Giant Northern Pike and Use it to Craft a New Weapon

Firstly, we are excited to introduce a new fishing system and easter egg melee weapon for Once Human! Players can now fish at any body of water in the game. If you're lucky enough to catch a "Giant Northern Pike," you can choose whether to cook it or to keep it as a pet in your fish tank. Players can also customize the aquatic plants and decorations that are displayed inside their fish tanks.

Alternatively, you can also try using your new Northern Pike as a melee weapon. (Better than a slap in the face with a wet kipper? I'll get my coat...)

If you don't yet have the materials to craft a fish tank, you're not hungry, and you generally prefer non-piscatory weapons, you can also freeze your new fishy friend by placing it in a refrigerator. And as it happens, a frozen Northern Pike packs an even greater punch at close range, with increased damage and a chance to inflict a slowdown effect on enemies.

However, this is only a temporary weapon boost. As soon as you step outside of specific areas, the Pike will start to thaw out again. Dead fish can't be placed in fish tanks, but can still be used as an ingredient in cooking. Or, if you're a fan of the man-posing-with-fish aesthetic, you can also mount the fish on a wooden board and hang it on your wall.
PS: We would like to thank players @TWG-Jnutt12#2089 @ItsAnge#0013 @Mad Doggo#0001 @DoW Overlord Reborn#1910 for their invaluable suggestions regarding the fishing system and easter egg weapon design. We greatly appreciate your input, and welcome all players to send us their creative gameplay ideas!

Journey Across Time and Space - Rift Space Transformation Mechanic

Rift Spaces are pockets of spatial chaos brought about by the power of Stardust, and connect this world to other spatial dimensions. After the Starfall, a number of large and highly mutated Deviations flooded into the human realm. Rosetta is able to secure smaller Deviations in underground bases, but giant, highly mutated Deviations can only be secured in Securement Silos, which are guarded around the clock by a squad of highly-trained Rosetta troops. The gates to these Securement Silos are locked, and players can only gain access to a Silo by obtaining the access card by killing and looting the elite Rosetta troops that are found in the open world. Once you've got the access card, call up your friends and challenge the Silo together to earn generous rewards. And watch out for reality-bending Rift Spaces that may be hidden within.

Rift Spaces function a lot like wormholes. They cause the player to shrink once they step inside. Inside a Rift Space, mice and even cockroaches suddenly become deadly threats, but on the other hand, players can also take advantage of their diminutive state to pass through narrow gaps and explore previously inaccessible locations.
Right now, we are still working to optimize and improve this Rift Space mechanic, as well as figuring out ways to flesh out the gameplay in interesting ways. However, we can say for sure that this system will only exist in specific raid modes, so players do not need to worry about Rift Spaces while exploring the open world. Rift Space research is a closely-guarded Rosetta secret, after all.

Introducing a New Deviant 'Seers'

We are excited to introduce a new Deviant species, the 'Seer' (subspecies 'mechahumanoid'). These gruesome humanoid Deviants stand at 5 to 6 feet tall, and have some kind of mechanical/electronic device sprouting out of their neck in place of a head. According to a recent Deviant behavioral report, it seems that the Seer's physical and behavioral characteristics are determined by the type of machinery that it has 'fused' with.

As mechahumanoids, Seers are formed when a humanoid Deviant parasitizes on a piece of surveillance or monitoring equipment. It seems that they are also able to alert other nearby Deviants to an intruder's presence, and function as patrol units within Deviant-invested areas. When a Seer spots a player, it will summon their fellows to surround and attack the player en masse.

But Seers are not invincible. An effective way to defeat a Seer is to find a way to break its head-mounted flashlight, without alerting the Seer to your presence. This will blind the Seer, rendering it much more vulnerable.
We are working on adding more creative new monster types into Once Human in the coming months, and ideas from within our community are especially welcome! HOST OF UPDATES FOR UPCOMING TEST

It's been a while Metas. The team has been hard at work recently on a whole host of new updates that we’re excited to be finally able to share with you.
We have finally finished the first stage of upgrading the graphics quality for the PC version of Once Human. This process has including a lot of remodeling and texture remastering.

First of all, I’m super excited to introduce our latest spine-chilling labor of love -the Blaster. Don’t get too close-hebites! Several other new enemy types are also still in production and will be joining the Blaster in-game soon. We’re also in the process of re-textured many of our existing enemy types.

We’ve also been working on a range of awesome new outfits. Our aim with these outfits has been to offer a range of stylish new looks with stronger stats and unique, interesting visual designs.

And finally, we’re also ready to unveil our improvements to the appearance of the Cradle. The Cradle is the most important piece of gear a Meta will ever own –besides just keeping the wearer alive in the wilderness, a Meta’s Cradle is also their source of talents and memetics, which are essential for powering up your character.

We’ve also been remodeling some of our environments, to give Nalcott a richer, more detailed feel. We’ve added new locations, environments, and secrets, just waiting to be explored!

The new gun textures we’ve implemented work very well with our new recoil animations and muzzle effects. When it comes to weapon design, we’ve chosen to retain a few retro-flourishes alongside our more futuristic designs, and players are free to choose the style they like best...The classic double-barrelled shotgun, for example, is one of the team’s personal favorites.

Last but not least, we have also optimized several mechanisms to facilitate a deeper gameplay experience. Players can choose from a wide range of different perks, talents, and memetics to create their own unique character builds.

Our specially designed electricity feature has also been implemented into the territory system. Furniture, devices, and facilities (with new updated models) can now be hooked up to generators and powered up, giving players even more choices when it comes to decorating their homes.

This was just a brief rundown of some of our newest features. Once Human fans can expect plenty of other exciting content to be included in our upcoming Closed Beta Test, as well as subsequent updates and tests.

Stay human, Metas.

Update on co-op territory construction

Based on feedback from the community, we understand that many players are very concerned about how the co-op elements will be implemented in our post-apocalyptic world. As a team, our goal has always been to create a game that is fully interactive and offers a realistic survival experience, and we’ve always considered co-op features to be central to achieving this goal.

In this Closed Beta Test, you will be able to build your territory with your teammates, share resources, and work together to create a personalized place.

【Gathering& Upgrading】
The territory is where everything starts. Facilities, decorations, and crafting equipment - as you consume more resources, you’ll be able to unlock new territory features. Teamwork is the key to building a strong territory. Work together with your friends to gather the resources you need and upgrade your home!

【Get ready for them!】
Your territory is both your headquarters and your shelter. But be cautious! THEY are watching! Beasts, Deviants, and even fellow human beings can all pose a serious threat to your territory. This cruel world makes people do horrible things, including joining the violent, hostile marauder gang. Danger lurks even within the natural environment itself, so make sure your shelter can protect you from extreme weather events, such as sandstorms and thunder. A well-designed territory should include a closed building structure surrounded by protective turrets and traps. Your home could be attacked at any time, so don’t make it too easy for ’em!

【Decoration& Design】
Ok, so you’ve built your shelter and installed some defenses. Now it’s time to have a little fun. Once Human offers a variety of different furniture options, including couches, wallpapers, and lighting, and a flexible construction system allows you to build structures however you see fit. Use your imagination, and make your shelter unique. Weare looking forward to seeing you guys get creative!

【Let there be light!】
Great job! Once you’ve built and decorated the perfect shelter, you’ll need to find a source of electricity to get the place up and running. Our electricity system was specially designed to enrich and expand the scope of territory building. It’s not just about keeping the lights on - most defensive and production facilities will require electricity in order to function. So, make sure to get yourself some generators and hook them up. Only then is your territory truly finished. Generators come in many forms: hydro, wind, biomass, solar, and even Deviation. That’s right, in this world you can burnStardust to generate energy!

So come on Metas, get ready to do some building!

DEV BLOG-Update on World Exploration, PVP and Character Performance

Hey Metas! The main focus of this dev blog will be all the latest updates and content changes for the upcoming CBT. We’re excited to share these changes, and give you a window into our development process. So, without further ado, let’s get going!

1 Going All in on World Exploration

We have added a lot of new content to our upcoming CBT. One big change was the ability to challenge the Great Ones. In our game-world, the Great Ones are a race of evil, god-like beings threatening to dominate the human world. As a Meta, your role is to fight back against the onslaught, cleanse the land, and drive the Great Ones back. In our upcoming CBT, players can now put their skills to the ultimate test by challenging the Great Ones in a special new game play feature. We hope that this new challenge mode will appeal to all our players, regardless of whether you prefer be always in the center of the action, or off to the sidelines, building your base, and hanging out with your friends. So, Metas! Grab your favorite weapon and get ready to fight, win, and take back this world!

Besides challenging the Great Ones, this most recent update will also include a number of special new hidden areas waiting for keen-eyed Metas to discover, such as Securement Silos. These Silos are special facilities built by Rosetta in order to control and study Deviations whenever they appear. Some of these Securement Silos are still under Rosetta's control, while others have been taken over by Deviants or infected with Stardust pollution. You’ll need to work together with your fellow Metas to discover and purge these Securement Silos, and make it back out with the loot.

2 Enhanced PvP Gameplay

We have also tried to enhance our PvP gameplay elements through the addition of the Chaos feature. Chaos players are human players who have entered a Chaos state, during which they can attack other players and their territories to loot resources. If you’re looking for a hardcore PvP experience, chose the PvP server and experience the thrill of all-out sever-wide warfare. Watch your back out there, Meta.

However, we understand that not everyone likes this kind of intensity, and as a result, we’ve also created a dedicated PvE server for the upcoming test. In this server Chaos players can only target other Chaos players, allowing Metas to opt out of this new feature whenever they want.

In addition to the threat posed by Chaos players, your squad can also get the chance to compete against other players in large-scale group combat. If you prefer being part of a team than fighting alone, this is the feature for you. In this upcoming test, players will be able to build Territories together with friends and occupy nearby resource points. Continued occupation will yield extremely rare resources, allowing you to craft the best weapons and tactical gear. But, be warned. If you want to wear the crown, you must learn to bear its weight. The bigger and richer your Territory becomes, the more threats you’ll face. Be ready - invading players may launch an attack at any time.

As your group grows in size, you will have opportunities to assert your ownership over the most important core strongholds in each region. Peaceful negotiation or conquest by force – the choice is yours. How you build your territory is also entirely up to you. Want to play it safe? Build an impenetrable fortress. Got an eye for design? Let your creative juices flow!

3 Better Character Performance
In addition, we’ve also been working on a more expansive range of combat gear for Metas. Learn to craft weapons and other items by acquiring blueprints and gathering the required materials. This is the key to making yourself stronger and leveling up your character. Gathering is the way to get your hands on important in-game items that may give you the upper hand in combat, or just because you want your character to have the best-looking gear.

Based on player feedback, we have also fully optimized the characters' basic movements and the way they interact with the various environments of the world for this upcoming test. We hope that we’ve succeeded in making our game-world more realistic and immersive, empowering our players to become the hero of their own story.

This is just a snapshot of all the changes we’ve been working on for this upcoming test. Keep an eye on this dev blog for further details about next month’s CBT. Please stay tuned and leave your comments, letting us know what you’d like us to cover in our next post.
