Hey Townies! The Flexible Factions update is now live! This update brings multiple balance changes primarily focused on the Coven faction, the Anomaly modifier, gamemode updates, and a brand new roledeck mechanic called Flexible Factions.[/h3][h3]

  • [p]Flexible Factions:[/p]
    • [p]Roles and rolebuckets can now have their starting faction specified in the roledeck. This allows for countless new gameplay scenarios, such as a Neutral Apocalypse bucket in the Coven, or a Hex Master in the Town![/p]
    • [p]Only Flexible roles and role buckets can have their factions changed. All roles, except for Neutral Evils and Vampire, are Flexible. All rolebuckets that do not contain Inflexible roles are Flexible.[/p]
    • [p]The available Flexible Factions are Town, Coven, Apocalypse, Vampire, Wandering Souls, and the role/rolebucket's default faction[/p]

  • [p]New Modifier: Anomaly[/p]
    • [p]The Anomaly modifier adds random Modifiers and Bans at the start of the game[/p]
    • [p]There will always be at least 1 Modifier and 1 Ban added[/p]
    • [p]Each additional Modifier or Ban added is half as likely as the previous one[/p]

  • [p]Casual:[/p]
    • [p]The total number of roledecks in the Casual mode rotation have been increased from 8 to 10[/p]
    • [p]Two roledecks will now be rotated out every 2 weeks instead of only 1[/p]
    • [p]We have updated almost every existing roledeck, check them out in-game to see what's different![/p]
  • [p]All Any:[/p]
    • [p]We will be testing a mixture of the Grace Period and Secret Killers modifiers in All Any over the next few weeks. Based on community feedback and gameplay statistics, either of these modifiers may become permanent parts of the mode.[/p]
    • [p]A new All Any variant named "Anomaly All Any" has been added. This variant uses the new "Anomaly" modifier.[/p]
    • [p]A new All Any variant named "Many All Any" has been added. This variant allows you to vote for which existing variant (AAF, TAA, AAA) you would like to play before the game starts.[/p]
  • [p]Coven Power roles are now mutually exclusive, meaning there can only be 1 present per game[/p]
  • [p]Hangover now grants Control Immunity[/p]
  • [p]The roledeck UI now features modifier, faction, and ban headers[/p]
  • [p]The roledeck UI will now resize to fit the screen as much as possible before needing to scroll[/p]
  • [p]Modifiers are now sorted alphabetically in the roledeck[/p]
  • [p]Bans are now sorted by alignment, then alphabetically in the roledeck[/p]
  • [p]Modifiers and Bans are now announced in the chat at the start of game[/p]
  • [p]All non-unique roles are now capped at 15 instead of 6[/p]
  • [p]Ritualist's UI has been reworked to use a dropdown menu with a search bar[/p]
  • [p]Enchanter's UI has been reworked to use a dropdown menu with a search bar[/p]
  • [p]The Role Reveal screen has received visual improvements[/p]
  • [p]Town Traitor now has a status effect icon[/p]
  • [p]Common Buckets can no longer spawn Outliers[/p]

  • [p]We will be moving away from the seasonal "Ranked + Content Update" structure soon. This means there will be no "Season 6" content update, but instead there will be titled content updates (Such as the "Flexible Factions Update").[/p]
  • [p]The Ranked mode will move to an independent ranked season schedule starting at Ranked Season 6[/p]
  • [p]Every 4-6 weeks (TBD!) Ranked progress will reset and the mode will move onto the next Ranked Season (Ranked Season 7, 8, etc.)[/p]
  • [p]There will be other changes made to the mode and progression alongside these, so stay tuned![/p]

  • [p]Coven Leader Role Rename:[/p]
    • [p]With the introduction of Flexible Factions, the Coven Leader can now start on any faction. Due to this, we have deemed its current name no longer suitable and have renamed the role to "Archmage".[/p]
  • [p]Archmage (previously Coven Leader) Rework:[/p]
    • [p]Archmage now has infinite retrains instead of only two[/p]
    • [p]Archmage can now only retrain other faction members into Common Coven roles, they can still retrain themselves into any valid Coven role[/p]
    • [p]Archmage's defense has been removed[/p]
  • [p]Voodoo Master Rework:[/p]
    • [p]Voodoo Master now has 3 abilities at night to choose between. Silence, Deafen and Blind:[/p]
      • [p]Silencing a player will prevent them from talking or whispering during the following day. A Silenced player will only be able to vote once per trial, and will not be able to switch or cancel their vote.[/p]
      • [p]Deafening a player will prevent them from hearing any chat messages or whispers from other players during the following day. A Deafened player will still be able to talk.[/p]
      • [p]Blinding a player will prevent them from seeing anything that happened to them that night, or their role's results[/p]
      • [p]You cannot target the same player two nights in a row regardless of which ability you use[/p]
    • [p]Voodoo Master's achievements have been reworked[/p]

  • [p]Illusionist Rework:[/p]
    • [p]Illusions will no longer hide players from Bodyguard, Trapper or Deputy[/p]
    • [p]New Passive Ability: Illusionist can now select a role and faction to appear as on death through their Last Will[/p]
    • [p]New "Phantasm" Ability: Illusionist can cast an Illusion over every member of their faction that night, this excludes Town Traitors. This ability has 1 charge.[/p]

  • [p]Berserker Rework:[/p]
    • [p]Berserker may now attack every night after night 1[/p]
    • [p]Berserker now starts with a Basic Attack[/p]
    • [p]Berserker's first kill will now upgrade their attack to Powerful[/p]
  • [p]Enchanter Buff:[/p]
    • [p]Enchanter's alter ability now allows them to select a faction to appear as on death[/p]
  • [p]Plaguebearer Buff:[/p]
    • [p]Plaguebearer's neighbors will now start the game infected[/p]
      • [p]The nearest neighbors are the two players with houses next to yours, or the player numbers directly above or below yours[/p]
        • [p]Example: If you are player 5, player 4 and 6 will start the game infected[/p]
  • [p]Medusa Buff:[/p]
    • [p]Medusa will now start the game Stoned[/p]
  • [p]Witch Nerf:[/p]
    • [p]Witch will now grant Hangover instead of Control Immunity[/p]
  • [p]Flexible Factions Role Changes:[/p]
    • [p]Vampire:[/p]
      • [p]With Flexible Factions, Vampire will lose a conversion charge for every player who starts on the Vampire faction[/p]
        • [p]Example: There is a Vampire Jailor at the start of the game, the Vampire will now start with 2 conversion charges instead of 3[/p]
    • [p]Enchanter:[/p]
      • [p]Enchanter will now frame other players as their current faction[/p]
    • [p]Soul Collector:[/p]
      • [p]Soul Collector will now frame other players as their current faction[/p]
    • [p]Ritualist:[/p]
      • [p]Ritualist can now target all roles regardless of their faction[/p]
  • [p]Every Neutral Killing and Neutral Apocalypse role can now wield the Necronomicon when on the Coven Faction:[/p]
    • [p]Serial Killer requires the book to Attack, and will permanently remain on cautious without it[/p]
    • [p]Shroud requires the book to Attack or Shroud[/p]
    • [p]Werewolf can now deal a Basic Attack with the book on a non full moon night. Werewolf requires the book to Rampage on a full moon night[/p]
    • [p]Arsonist can now deal a Basic Attack with the book. Arsonist requires the book to Ignite, but can still Douse players without it[/p]
    • [p]Plaguebearer with the book will now deal a Basic Attack to their target alongside infecting them[/p]
    • [p]Berserker requires the book to Attack. Berserker can attack on night one with the book if Grace Period is inactive[/p]

  • [p]Fixed multiple Wandering Souls faction members not leaving the town when the last Cursed Soul dies via a day kill[/p]
  • [p]Fixed not all astral attacks ignoring Bodyguard/Trapper[/p]
  • [p]Fixed Cursed Souls not 100% swapping with target when not on the Town or Wandering Souls faction. Keep in mind the Cursed Soul will swap with a random target instead if the following conditions are met:[/p]
    • [p]The target you're trying to swap with is unswappable (NE + Vamp)[/p]
    • [p]Another Cursed Soul has swapped with your target already[/p]
  • [p]Fixed Retributionist and Necromancer not being able to use Catalyst[/p]

Hey Townies! We're excited to share that thanks to LootLocker we have implemented a new News Tab on the game home screen. We'll share important messages here like patch notes, server maintenance/outages & more. Make sure to keep an eye on it!

  • [p]Introduced the Home News Tab. This sits in the bottom right of the main menu, cycling through different broadcasts.[/p]
  • [p]Introduced the Login News Tab. This sits at the top right of the login screen and will be used to alert players of important server status information.[/p]
  • [p]Updated the Login + Loading Screen backgrounds to a dynamic system. You will now see different backgrounds depending on the current date.[/p]
  • [p]Removed the Patch Notes button from the Login Screen, they are now accessible through the Home News Tab.[/p]

  • [p]The Processing Overlay label will no longer be stuck on screen if you leave the Shop or Cauldron menus while it is there.[/p]

Town of Salem 2: Backend Update Notice from Executive Producer

[p]Howdy Townies,

[/p][p]Wanted to give you all a quick update on our status as well as highlight some of the new things that you’ll start seeing.[/p][p][/p][p]The backend update itself was a bit rocky upon going live with server crashes & newly introduced issues/bugs, however we think we’ve got most of those issues sorted at this point with a few issues remaining (related to the Cauldron, cosmetics, F2P keys & a few others). The initial crashes were a combination of how the new backend was interacting with our servers + game code (some being unnecessary legacy code) as well as some oversights on our part. The good news moving forward is that we have enhanced logging & crash dump information for future issues which will help us analyze & resolve them in a more efficient way.[/p][p][/p][p]Over the past few weeks we’ve done a lot of backend optimizations as well as removed a bunch of legacy code that is no longer needed. Alongside those improvements, we’ve also increased our efficiency for calls back and forth between the game and our servers.[/p][p][/p][p]An important update is that with the new backend we have a much better system for data protection/security as well as reliability. Legally we have certain responsibilities with your information & data. However, we’re actually doing a lot more than the bare legal minimum in order to protect your data to the best of our ability.[/p][p][/p][p]We’re continuously working through support tickets via ModMail & the support email. If you have any issues please feel free to contact us so we can assist.[/p][p][/p][p]An exciting new feature we’re debuting soon is our new in-game news tab thanks to LootLocker. This allows us to host a news hub within the game home screen to alert players of news, updates, and more in a more integrated way, in addition to our current messaging going out via Discord, Steam News or Social Media.[/p][p][/p][p]Other new things are all mostly backend support and in-game efficiency that may not appear all that noticeable to players, but we're monitoring the data speeds related to the number of active players & seeing significant improvement which decreases strain on our servers going forward.[/p][p][/p][p]We're also hard at work on the next content update for the game! This brings multiple reworks and balance changes focused on the Coven roles, and the brand new "Flexible Factions" roledeck mechanic. We've done all of the testing we are able to do internally, so our next step is to set the game servers live & see how they behave in the live environment. This is NOT an all clear notice that everything is for certain stable.

NOTE: It is possible that servers crash again or other issues may crop up. If there are significant issues we will likely take the servers offline again & investigate all of the new information we have collected.

Servers will be going live to the public for testing at approximately 12:45 PM Eastern

We request that you post all issues during this testing time within this Discord thread. Please make sure you have joined the Discord server & you have the Town of Salem 2 role.[/p][p]
Remain respectful & follow Steam's posting guidelines as well as our pinned board rules. You are not required to participate in this live testing. Any players are welcome to wait until we give an official all clear notice regarding the issues.
