Bitmap Books - 50 Indie Games That Changed The World

[p]Bitmap Books recently released “50 Indie Games that Changed the World”, and featured Guacamelee! [/p][p][/p][p]“Each chapter represents the story of a particular indie game of note…all 50 are evidence of the impact and boundary-pushing capabilities only indie games can achieve” - Aaron Potter[/p][p][/p][p]This book is crafted with so much love and attention to detail, beautiful from cover to cover and inspiring in the stories it explores. We are truly humbled that Guacamelee! was included amongst so many genre-defining titles.[/p][p][/p][p]Guacamelee! will always hold a special place in our studio’s history, and its success is in no small part thanks to the love and enthusiasm of everyone that played and enjoyed it.[/p][p][/p][p]You can find more information about this book (and get your own copy!) here: [/p][p]https://www.bitmapbooks.com/en-ca/products/50-indie-games-that-changed-the-world[/p][p][/p][p]A big thanks to Bitmap Books for having us, and to you for supporting us.[/p][p]The Drinkbox Team[/p]

Summer Development Update from Drinkbox Studios

[p]Hey! How’s it going?  [/p][p]Eating well? Sleeping in? Folding clothes? [/p][p]That’s so great to hear.[/p][p][/p][p]- Oh, us? Nah, we haven’t been up to much. [/p][p]Well, except for all the work we’ve put into our new game Blighted. Check it out![/p][p][/p][p]As you know, we announced Blighted back in June as part of Summer Game Fest 2025, and we’ve been hard at work on it since. (Thanks for wishlisting it, by the way. It really does help 🙏)[/p][p][/p][p]We don’t want to spoil too much, buuuut we’ve added a TON of enemies to the game, and are still adding more! Each of them deadly in their own weird and freaky little way.[/p][p][/p][p]It’s hard to believe but we actually built out an early version of the entire game as part of an internal-alpha milestone! And right now we’re in the middle of tearing it all up, choosing the best bits, adding juicy challenges and putting it all back together again.[/p][p][/p][p]Now, it might sound like we don’t have much left to do, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! We’re still fine tuning the gameplay and combat loop to go beyond the standard we’ve established in any of our other games thus far. Blight is getting deadlier, and gnarlier too. Our programmers are working all sorts of technical magic to make Blighted shine, ooze and wriggle. And every new object in the game is another opportunity for our artists to draw up a fresh nightmarish creation to populate the growing world. And Jim Guthrie is still sending us tracks that put shivers down our spines in all of the best ways.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We're also prepping the soundtrack from Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack to be released on Steam very soon! As one of our first major releases, Mutant Blobs Attack will always hold a special place in our ears - because the soundtrack by Peter Chapman and Shaun Hatton is SO GOOD. If you ever need a shot of caffeine directly into your earlobes, load up this soundtrack, sit back, and get back up again because your toes will not stop tapping.[/p][p][/p][p]On the more human side, we recently took the team out to get their quarterly quota of exercise by running, jumping, dodging, ducking, dipping, diving, dodging, throwing, shooting (basketball), shooting (gun) and yelling with Activate. We then gathered for our biggest team photo to date!! (we’re still missing an international co-worker or two, but we’ll get them one day!)[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Huh. Turns out we have in fact been ‘up to much’! Sorry for all the yapping. As a thank you for listening, we’ve put all of our games on sale on Steam![/p][p][/p][p]Catch you later![/p][p]The Drinkbox Team[/p]

Happy Holidays from Drinkbox Studios

Happy Holidays! 2023 was a relatively quiet year for us as we’ve been heads-down, working on some new ideas… but we still wanted to share some highlights from the past year!

In January we released a free update for Nobody Saves the World which featured Magic Jimmy’s Impossible Dungeon and a new unlockable Dinosaur form. We were overwhelmed with the positive response to this update and loved seeing photos of your statue gardens!

This year we added some new members to our team including 3D Technical Artist Greg and Junior Programmer Fred. We also welcomed back Animator and Artist Matheus who worked with us on Nobody Saves the World!

Speaking of our team, here are some of their favourite games played in 2023:
  • Cass: Nioh, Dragon's Dogma, Remnant 2
  • Fred: Paradise Marsh, Risk of Rain Returns, Plate Up
  • Gabby: Zelda TOTK, Baldur’s Gate 3, Dave the Diver, Slay the Princess
  • Graham: Baldur's Gate 3, Zelda TOTK, Mario Wonder
  • Greg: Lethal Company
  • Ian: Time Crisis 4, Cobalt Core, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days
  • Josh: Hi-Fi Rush, Mario Wonder
  • Matheus: Alan Wake 2, Spider-man 2, Elden Ring
  • Mau: Mario Wonder, Zelda TOTK, Metroid Prime
  • Mike: Baldur's Gate 3, Armored Core VI, Cyberpunk 2077
  • Ryan: Dungeons & Dragons (pen and paper)
  • Steele: Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, Victoria 3, RimWorld
  • Vlad: Counter-Strike 2, Squad, Spider-Man 2, Armored Core VI

Here are some highlights from the past year:

🥇 Nobody Saves the World was nominated for a bunch of awards, including the Canadian Screen Awards, Canadian Game Awards, and Webby Awards. We didn’t win any of these, buuuuut…

🏆 Jim Guthrie won the Screen Composers Guild of Canada award for “Best Original Score for Games and Interactive Media” for the Nobody Saves the World soundtrack!

💿 Jim also released the Nobody Saves the World soundtrack on a beautiful double vinyl

🐓 We teamed up with The Yetee to release new Nobody Saves the World and Guacamelee merch, including this very good spinning pollo pin

💖 We partnered with Limited Run Games to release physical versions of Nobody Saves the World, Severed, and Mutant Blobs Attack (which sold out almost immediately!)

Over this past year we’ve been busy prototyping new stuff, playing with new ideas and styles. We’ve landed on something the whole team is very excited about, something completely new to us that we hope you’ll be excited about too.

We can’t wait to share more when we can, but in the meantime here’s a lil sneaky peek ^

Consider joining our discord to keep updated on the latest news about all our games (including this new one)
