Since we released the trailer we wanted to give you something for the weekend, this is a breakdown of the Gameplay reveal trailer with timestamps and explanation from us, the devs, on what you are seeing! Feel free to ask any questions in the discord or the steam forums. We will try to answer all the questions we can!
And remember a beta will be announced soon, join Discord, social media and Steam wishlist to be the first to know when the beta will start and how to join!
[0:08 - 0:09] A time for ordinary people, to take extraordinary actions:
This is the motto of the game, it describes well the situation that the player will live in the game. An ordinary civilian or soldier doing extraordinary actions to overcome a situation.
When we began working in UNITED, we felt wars affect everyone, not only soldiers. So, we felt: in this game, we’d love you to ask yourself: What would you do if you were there, in 1944? Would you be a warrior? A defender? A medic? That is how this motto emerged.

[0:10 - 0:14] Palace HQ
That huge building is one of the main HQ of the game, the Palace HQ. In each map you have 2 HQ, one for each team. In this HQ players spawn at the beginning and are able to deliver secret documents scattered around the map to be able to get an outpost kit to capture other points in the map.
As a player you probably want to protect it as it is the source of your faction’s expansion, if you lose your HQ your team will not be able to create more outposts!

[0:19 - 0:21] Weapon breaking
The game has elements of survival, you have to craft your weapons, and as such they can break. Each weapon has a unique breaking animation, noticeable at first glance. So keep an eye on the condition of your weapon; you don’t want to lose it in the middle of a fight!

[0:21 - 0:24] Safe Boxes
These safe boxes contain the secret documents you have to deliver to the HQ. They need to be broken down first to get access to those documents. But be aware, when you try to break one, the enemy will know, so it is better for you to team up for protection or to break the safe faster!
You can bring those documents to your HQ as explained before to build a new outpost.

[0:25 - 0:26] Scavenge, Steel
As an ordinary civilian that is drawn into this fight you will have to join the war effort, scavenging for supplies and resources to fight on. This is super necessary, especially at the beginning of a game, where you start literally with nothing. Metal scraps and wood will allow you to craft your first weapon, a makeshift weapon to defend yourself when you explore the map looking for better resources, documents or simply to harass the enemy.
And with more resources and some skills in a bit you will be able to build more advanced weapons and gadgets!

[0:27 - 0:28] Skill tree - unlocking AP mine
In this fragment of the trailer we show the skill tree that you have in a game on it you have a variety of tools to evolve through the game, from gadgets such as grenades, spy radios, bandages or mines, to new weapons or skills such as more stamina or the ability to build walls.
This skill tree is reset on every game with the goal of giving you, the player, free will in every game, do whatever you need to do, evolve as the battle rages on to create alongside your teammates the best strategy to win. You can’t do everything, you can’t win alone, UNITED you will succeed.

[0:29 - 0:30] Ap mine placement
The fragment shown before you can see how the player is unlocking the AP mine skill. This gave the crafting recipe, so in this clip you can see the placement of an AP mine. There are many more gadgets in the game that you can place to defend your place or formulate strategies. Spy radios, barbed and hunting traps are at your disposal to acquire map control. Is up to your squad to use them in the best way possible to win the game!

[0:30 - 0:31] Outpost placement
Every map has a number of conquerable outpost locations. Once you have crafted an outpost kit at your HQ, you need to carry it to one outpost location, and plant it there to conquer the spot. As you can see on the video, you can plant it anywhere, so you must learn through different battles the best places on each outpost location.
Of course, when an outpost kit is on the move, it’s essential to escort it with other team members, so the person carrying the kit is not gunned down: his role is fundamental.

[0:31 - 0:33] Building ghost + buildings
Once an outpost has been conquered, protecting it with constructions, barricades, mines is the logical next step: the enemy will be notified that an outpost has been erected, and most likely they will try to reconquer it.
As you can see, constructions can be placed freely, or in specific snap points, so every base is different, and on every battle you can change your engineering strategy.

[0:40 - 0:42] Wall destruction
As in any urban military operation, everything starts with breaking through. Use grenades, dynamite or bombing runs to blow up enemy walls, and gain access to their outposts or HQ.

[0:44 - 0:46] Revive teammate
Teamwork is at the core of UNITED. So, doing a revive mechanic was very high in our priority list. We want players to “care” for one another. In the end, you don’t want your team-mate to fall: maybe he was carrying valuable items that you want to save from falling in the enemy's hands!

[0:46 - 0:47] Directional Death animation
UNITED has +100 unique death animations. Remember our focus is immersion. Early on, we felt killing someone didn’t have the “omph” factor we wanted: it felt out of place. We invested a lot of time and effort into doing lots of death cases, so gunning someone down is a satisfying experience.

[0:49 - 0:50] Bombing flare
We took a lot of care in the explosions. From particles to sound effects, in this part of the trailer you can see one of the most devastating weapons in United, the bombing flare. A gadget that calls a bombing run on the position where it is thrown. You don’t want to be in the hot spot when it is thrown!

[0:51 - 0:52] Traversal/verticality
As you can see, a defining factor of UNITED is map traversal. Every building is explorable. Every door leads somewhere. Every rooftop is a vantage point. This generates a lot of emergent strategies. Only after many battles, you begin to master the map, and to understand your optimal traversal routes fitting your unique role and playstyle.
