From Concept to Creation: Programancer Dev Log #1

Taken from a hidden bunker somewhere in Prison City comes an exclusive insight into the mind of developer Programancer on his thoughts about his latest title in the works!

This week, Programancer answered a few questions about his inspirations for the game, programming challenges, and his favorite boss(es).
Question #1: What games inspired you to make Prison City?
Programancer: Power Blade (obviously), Shatterhand, Vice: Project DOOM, Mega Man, and a distaste for Power Blade 2.
Question #2: What do you think were some of the most challenging elements in the game to program?
Programancer: I’d definitely have to say the bosses! Some of them change the formula up a bit and while programming them wasn’t challenging in the literal sense, they did force me to think outside of the box for a lot of their creation and design. Lots of adjustments to code and patterns to get the feel just right for the battles.
Question #3: Do you have a favorite boss?
Programancer: This changes for me depending on my mood, but it’s a toss up between Fury Rhoads and the penultimate boss of the game (that I dare not spoil!), but I have a soft spot for the Jumbotron, too.

Stay tuned for more updates! Next time we’ll go into depth about Programancer’s use of references to existing media, his journey as a developer, and why he chose to set the game in Detroit!
