PTS Game Update: September 11, 2020

A new PTS (Public Test Server) patch for the upcoming PlanetSide 2 game update, The Shattered Warpgate, is coming to the Test Server today!

This is our second Test Server update in anticipation of The Shattered Warpgate heading to Live Servers (patch notes from the first PTS update are available HERE). We'll continue updating the Test Server over the next few weeks to ensure we're able to focus our testing on different areas of this massive update.

We're also hosting two playtests tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, on PTS during the following windows:
 • 10am PDT - 12pm PDT (7pm - 9pm CEST)
 • 2pm PDT - 4pm PDT (5pm - 7pm EDT)

The time slots are intended to accommodate our EU and NA communities, but anyone is free to join either playtest (or both) regardless of where they're playing from. Many of our Outfit Leaders are helping organize around the 2pm PDT playtest, so please join us so we can truly test out the new continent of Esamir at scale!

Test Server installation can be found here: http://launch.daybreakgames.com/installer/PS2_Test_setup.exe
The Shattered Warpgate (PTS Update 2)
• While on PTS, you'll find an interactable object next to the new campaign vendor on Sanctuary handing out FREE STUFF. Interacting with this holographic Flash will provide you with currency and certain campaign items for testing purposes.
 • Campaigns will be disabled in this initial update, and a limited pool of missions will be available to test.
 • Esamir (and all continents) will be unlocked 100% of the time during this update.

This weekend the following playtest schedule is in effect:
 • Saturday, September 12 at 10m PDT (7pm CEST) & 2pm PDT (5pm EDT) - A group of community members are coordinating a large-scale playtest between multiple outfits, and we'd like to see how the continent performs at scale during this event.
Mission changes
We've added three new mission types to the normal pool.
 • Supply Convoy Delivery - A rendezvous location will be placed at an allied Warpgate periodically where Sunderers/ANTs will gather. The mission will then determine a contested base to bring your convoy vehicle to, alive. This mission has an internal completion time limit that we'd like to surface in the UI in a future update.
 • Supply Convoy Protection - Earn completion by destroying or damaging enemy vehicles while near a Convoy vehicle.
 • Supply Convoy Disruption - Convoy vehicles are flagged with a special indicator. Earn completion by destroying Convoy vehicles.

Adjustments and fixes have been made to the following missions.
 • Cortium Run - Now shows a waypoint indicator on the nearest allied Silo.
 • Transport Pilot and Transport Stormbound - Updated description.
 • Mining Elysium - Updated visuals on mining drill. Completing and starting a new Mining Elysium mission will no longer instantly complete it.
 • Message Courier - Progress should no longer get stuck after relogging or traveling to a new zone, and will instead reset progress.
 • Surveying the Land - Fixed some of the NPCs related to this mission on Esamir.
Environment changes
• Shattered Warpgate Shallows - Two "shallow" areas have been added to bridge the thawed river, allowing vehicles to cross without being destroyed by falling into deep water.
 • Mattherson's Triumph - This base now moves all three capture points into the mid-field between the two towers, and has received additional cover. Sunderer no-deploy area is currently bugged, but in a later update attackers will be able to deploy a Sunderer within the western tower.
 • Eastwake Harborage - This base should be closer to a finished state now, and has received additional cover and base turrets. Some cleanup, and changes to the capture point building still need to be made.
 • Eastern Warpgate - Changed the facing direction and spawn locations of aircraft. Now has a large no-construction zone that is visible on the map. Fixed visual distortions with the Warpgate shield.
 • Eisa Tech Plant - Made cover adjustments around A and B capture points. Containment shields surrounding Skylance can now be walked through, but not fired through.
 • Excavion DS-01E - Fixed being able to clip into the pit, added Sunderer and ANT no-deploy/no-construction zones, and no longer says "Wodenrest" on the minimap. Still needs additional work.
 • Saerro Listening Post - Minor adjustments made around A and B capture points. Removed lattice connection to Jord Amp Station.
 • Echo Valley Substation - Fixed capture point placement issue, made additional cover and flow changes, still needs cleanup.
 • Genudine Gardens - Some additional cleanup done here, but still needs additional work.
 • Jord Amp Station - Jump Pads and vehicle terminals should work at this base now.
 • Untapped Reservoir - Should once again be capturable.
 • Nott Amp Station - Can no longer see inside the geo.
 • Ymir Ruins - Now correctly uses vehicle capture points.
 • Mani Processing Plant - Now shows name correctly on the minimap.
 • The Shattered Warpgate - No-construction area has been made much smaller, allowing for construction throughout most of the area.
 • Cortium Spawns - Adjusted Cortium Spawns across the map to make more sense with the updated terrain, and added more to the Shattered Warpgate area.
 • Esamir Sky - Reduced harsh contrasts at night and during dusk/dawn.
 • Various cleanup of reported bugs.
Known environment issues / yet to be completed bases.
• Northern Shattered Warpgate shallow needs cleanup, and drops too low beneath the water plane in some areas.
 • Water kill plane is too low and functions incorrectly.
 • Grey Heron Shipping door collision is still too low to crawl beneath.
 • Jaegar's Fist trench entrance is too small in some areas.
 • The Traverse will likely be moved on to the bridge again with some additional changes.
 • Untapped Reservoir and Tapp Waystation will be getting hard spawns like BL-4 Recovery Point and Vidar Observation.
 • BL-4 Recovery Point is missing a spawn room shield.
 • Andvari Ruins will be converted into a 3-point base, similar to Ymir Ruins.
 • Excavion DS-01E needs spawn room pain field and vehicle terminals.
 • Eastwake Harborage is missing a jump pad and needs cleanup.
 • Genudine Gardens needs additional work.
 • Echo Valley Substation needs additional work.
 • Snowshear Fort remains unfinished.
 • Nott Communications remains unfinished.
 • Some abandoned bases still need snowcap covers.
 • Indar's Ceres Hydroponics is missing some assets in the capture point building.
Electrical Storm and Derelict Vehicles
• Drastically reduced movement speed of the Electrical Storm.
 • Bastion Interceptors will now be affected by the Electrical Storm's handling penalties.
 • Electrical Storm's performance hit severely reduced as of last weekend's hotfixes.
 • Fixed an issue causing Tempest to accumulate even while outside of an Electrical Storm.
 • You no longer receive navigation warning spam while piloting a Bastion in the storm.
 • Derelict vehicles that have been reclaimed with a Neutralizer Device are now called "Reclaimed" vehicles when spotted.
 • Reclaimed MBTs now have faction-specific top-guns.
 • Reclaimed vehicles are not affected by the handling penalties of the storm.
 • Reclaimed vehicles of all kinds now have a unique AoE damage ability that disperses storm build-up.
 • Reclaimed Sunderer can now deploy.
 • Reclaimed vehicles can no longer be shared between opposing factions.
 • Players can no longer (safely) use the Neutralizer Device on a derelict vehicle when they already own a reclaimed vehicle.
 • Observer Camera can no longer be targeted by an Electrical Storm.
 • Using a Lightning Grenade on your own Lightning Arrester no longer grants experience.
 • Lightning Grenade now displays the proper icon when purchased.
 • Energy Geysers now cause similar shield damage and overload buildup as an Electrical Storm while near them.
Black Market
Havoc Rocket Pods (ESF)
 • Converted Havoc Rocket Pods into Havoc Missiles, this item is available from the Black Market equipment vendor.
 • This weapon has been converted into an air to air lockon weapon.
 • Reload Speed and Ammo Capacity upgrades should now work correctly for all factions.
 • This should be considered a prototype for testing purposes and may receive additional changes/skill lines in the future.
Misc. Changes, Fixes, and Additions
• Fixed an issue where Bastion construction could get stuck with the new update if you already have certain components constructed.
 • Reduced the performance impact of many UI elements.

 • Updated audio for various elements of Esamir.
 • Fixed a floating NPC in Sanctuary.
 • Added new visuals for Representative Foster, located on the Sanctuary Observation Deck.
 • Fixed a typo in the air vehicle render distance description of the graphical settings menu.

PTS Game Update: September 3, 2020

The Shattered Warpgate game update has arrived on the Public Test Server (PTS)! We'll be hosting our first playtests on Friday, September 4, and Saturday, September 5, kicking off a series of PTS events to ensure we're able to focus our testing efforts on different areas of this massive update. PTS will remain unlocked in between playtests (unless we bring it down for a new patch - follow us on Twitter or Facebook for updates!).

Test Server installation can be found here: http://launch.daybreakgames.com/installer/PS2_Test_setup.exe

Read on for full patch notes!

The Shattered Warpgate
 • While on PTS, you'll find an interactable object next to the new campaign vendor on Sanctuary handing out FREE STUFF. Interacting with this holographic Flash will provide you with currency and certain campaign items for testing purposes.
 • Campaigns will be disabled in this initial update, and a limited pool of missions will be available to test.
 • Esamir (and all continents) will be unlocked 100% of the time for this testing.
Playtest schedule for this first PTS patch is as follows:
 • Friday, September 4 - 12pm PDT
 • Friday, September 4 - 2pm PDT
 • Saturday, September 5 - 12pm PDT

Here's what you'll be able to explore with this new update.
Esamir Upheaval
The continent of Esamir has gone through many changes since you last saw it. The Northeastern Warpgate has been destroyed, with the time-frozen remains of an ancient Vanu structure left in its wake, and a vortex of energy pouring into the sky.
 • New Skybox: Esamir has gotten colder with an overcast sky, the auroras have gotten brighter, and the sky shudders with cracks of lightning overhead.
 • Abandoned Bases: Due to hardline failures and defunct technology, many bases on Esamir have been abandoned for the snow to reclaim.
 • Disabled Vehicles: Disabled during the explosion, derelict vehicles can be found scattered throughout Esamir, and with the right tech, able to be reclaimed.
 • New and Modified Bases: After the collapse, empires scrambled to modify and construct new bases to accommodate the changed environment.
 • New Warpgate Location: Nanite Systems has unveiled new "Haven" technology that acts as a pseudo-Warpgate for the eastern portion of Esamir.
 • Revamped Lattice: The lattice has been reconfigured to conform to the new environment, and bases now tend to be fewer and farther between.
 • Environmental Hazard: An Electrical Storm roams the battlefield, calling down deadly lightning bolts and overloading vehicle systems.
This continent is still a work in progress and will receive additional changes prior to the Live release.
Campaigns
The new Campaign system is one of the major features introduced with this update. Unlocking access to the Campaign will allow you to take on lore-driven story missions that explore the evolving war on Auraxis, and the minds of those behind it. It remains locked for now, but we'll explore this feature in a later PTS update once it's enabled for testing.
New Mission System
Players now have access to an all-new Mission system that offers up daily missions players can complete for rewards. All players can choose to accept a limited number of missions each day, with Members gaining additional daily mission unlocks. Missions come in a variety of rarities which represent difficulty, time investment, and intensity. The higher the rarity, the better the rewards for that mission type.

The mission pool available in this PTS update consists of the following:
 • Transport Pilot: Ferry passengers to combat areas.
 • Front Line Spawns: Deploy Sunderers on the front line.
 • Cortium Run: Harvest and deposit cortium in allied Silos.
 • Protection Protocol (NSO): Defend your allies with the Defector's Seraph Shield.
 • Soldier and Shepard: Capture bases and earn experience leading a squad/platoon.
 • Bounty Hunter: Kill a bountied target.
 • Message Courier: Deliver communications intel from base to base in a Harasser.
 • Mining for Elysium: Defend an orbital mining drill while it harvests.
 • Transport Stormbound: A campaign themed version of the Transport Pilot mission that sends you into the storm on Esamir.
Indar Terrain Changes
• The Crown has received changes to capture point placement, and B point can now be reached from both the north, south, and eastern sides of the base through an underground combat area.
 • Ceres Hydroponics has received some adjustments to reduce prop density, and adjust sight lines, and the hill to TI Alloys has received some new paths around the eastern side.
 • TI Alloys has received reductions in its defensive capabilities, and the rock bridge connecting it to The Crown has been destroyed.
Sanctuary Changes
• Players will now log into Sanctuary initially.
 • The visuals within and without Sanctuary has received much in the way of cleanup and improvement.
 • A new "Social" chat channel is available for all Sanctuary-goers, allowing cross-faction chat throughout the station.
 • Mission Boards are available within Sanctuary, that will take you to the Mission page on interacting with them. They've also been placed in each Warpgate.
 • A campaign rewards vendor can now be found in the Outfit Quartermaster shop.
 • Outfit Quartermaster/Outfit Recruiter have swapped places.
 • FL-34 and SPRK-33 in the Black Market shop have swapped places.
 • New "Havoc Rocket Pods" can be bought from SPRK-33.
 • Speaking with FL-34 in Sanctuary will open the implant crafting menu for the player.
Implants
• All exceptional implants can now be crafted for an ISO-4 cost from the crafting screen.
Firestorm
• This implant has been added to the drop table.
 • Actual crafting cost has been instated at 3500.
 • Recoil and CoF bloom penalty from 200% to 100%
 • No longer uncaps horizontal recoil tolerance.
Mentor Chat
• Players who complete the Leadership tier 2 directive will now have access to Mentor Chat regardless of their current Mentor Rank.
 • Replaced Implant Pack Tier 2 Leadership directive reward with "Mentor Chat Access."
 • Players up to BR30 (and less than 100 directive score) now have access to /new chat, was previously until BR15.
War Asset Costs Overhaul
Changes to Map-based Resource Gain for Outfits:
 • Upon a successful capture, bases award their full resource value to any participating Outfits above a contribution threshold of 1000 score.
 • Outfits who own a base continue to gain resource ticks over time once every 5 minutes, (no changes from Live.)
 • Sanctuary no longer offers resource trading.
 • Expeditions have been retooled to provide larger resource drops with a consistent conversion.
 • Assets can no longer be Overclocked at all. This is an experiment to see if the slowed pacing, coupled with the resource changes below, result in more diverse war asset usage.

War Assets now have resource type associations drawn more exclusively with their desirability.
Auraxium-based Assets
• Light ANVIL: 5 Auraxium for 3 ANVILs
 • Medium ANVIL: 25 Auraxium
 • Heavy ANVIL: 50 Auraxium

 • Outfits with pre-existing Bastion components may not be able to craft additional Bastion pieces currently.

The Shattered Warpgate Unveiled

Get ready for the catastrophe ahead, soldier - The Shattered Warpgate is scheduled to hit the Public Test Server (PTS) next week!

If you missed today's record-breaking Dev Livestream reveal of this massive update (the most-watched Livestream in PlanetSide 2 history!), we've recapped all the highlights below. We're thrilled to finally be showing off all the work that went into this - one of our foundational promises as a studio was to deliver big, impactful updates like Escalation or The Shattered Warpgate roughly every 6 months, and we can't wait for all of you to get your hands on it!

The Shattered Warpgate will release first on PTS (the Public Test Server), and will only hit PC Live servers once we've had enough time to playtest and iterate off of your feedback. After PC launch, we're anticipating a much shorter turnaround time to have it ready for PS4 (weeks not months), after the recent Escalation console update caught us up.

Watch and read on for all the highlights!
THE CAMPAIGN BEGINS
The northeast Warpgate on Esamir has shattered, and a mysterious, alien energy emanates throughout the land - a harbinger of strife ahead. Welcome to the first Campaign in PlanetSide 2, soldier!

Campaigns are new open-world storytelling experiences drawn from Auraxian lore, designed to deliver major environmental and gameplay changes that permanently evolve the world and story of PlanetSide. They take place entirely through normal gameplay, through a series of events and missions that tie the story together. The first Campaign, The Shattered Warpgate, introduces significant world changes to the continent of Esamir, as players are asked to investigate the cataclysmic event behind the Warpgate's destruction, and discover new revelations and dangers along the way.

Campaigns will be free for members, and can be unlocked by other players using Certs. The first Campaign will run for 3 months (1 month per Chapter), with each Chapter offering unique, thematic rewards at completion. The Campaign will remain locked when this update first goes to PTS, so the mystery behind The Shattered Warpgate will have to wait until it hits Live servers!
NEW MISSION SYSTEM
Underpinning the Campaign system is a dynamic new Mission system, introducing daily quests and challenges to PlanetSide 2. Players will have access to a Mission board that resets daily, offering a diverse collection of new missions with differing rarities, difficulties, and rewards. This will include faction-specific Missions, community Missions, solo Missions, and Missions that cater to the deep variety of playstyles within PlanetSide 2.

Players will always have a choice of which missions to pursue on any given day, regardless of whether they've unlocked the current Campaign. Members will be allotted additional daily Missions on top of what every player will get for free, while rewards like ISO, Certs, Experience, and even New Weapons can be acquired at completion. Rewards will generally be proportionate to the difficulty and time requirement of the Missions you choose to undertake.
ESAMIR REVAMPED
Following hints of instability within the power grid beneath the Northeastern Warpgate, the resulting explosion has left the entire region drastically altered in its wake! Tech failures, destroyed bases, melted glaciers, sudden temperature drops, sporadic energy geysers, glowing auroras and strange new alien plant life are only a few of the changes that now mark the land.

But the War still rages.

In the aftermath of this cataclysmic event, Nanite Systems have rolled out The Haven, the first mobile Warpgate, replacing the now-destroyed Warpgate in a new location to the East. The environmental effects that rocked the continent are more than just visual - the Lattice itself has been remade, with base locations altered or abandoned. Some intrepid investigators have even figured out how to recommission some of the many derelict vehicles strewn across the battlefield, including those left by other Factions...
A STORM GATHERS
Perhaps the most profound change to the Continent is the sudden appearance of a powerful new energy storm, the first environmental hazard introduced in PlanetSide 2. Attracted by mechanical signatures, the storm targets areas on the map where the action is heaviest, putting players - particularly players in vehicles - at risk of being struck by powerful lightning bolts. The surrounding energy can also have an impact on vehicle handling, and while it moves slowly, its pull is inexorable. Players can escape the storm entirely within buildings or by leaving the area, and will gain new items and abilities to negate and even harness the storm's energy over the course of the first Campaign, including Insulated Vehicle Armor, Lightning Grenades, and a new Lightning Arrester deployable.

These are just a few of the highlights from The Shattered Warpgate - this massive game update will come with a wealth of additional features and new content, including geographic improvements made to Indar, Sanctuary improvements, War Asset rebalancing, the ability to craft Exceptional Implants using ISO, and much more. Full patch notes will be available once its ready for PTS.

PlanetSide 2 is launching a massive seasonal campaign system, and the open beta starts soon

Even eight years after it launched, there's still nothing else quite like PlanetSide 2's massive scale, ongoing sci-fi battles. Other shooters have certainly borrowed ideas from the free Steam game over the years, and now, Rogue Planet Games is borrowing something in return: the seasonal narrative system popularised by Fortnite. Today, Rogue Planet Games has announced The Shattered Warpgate, a new seasonal campaign system that is aimed at giving players a new way to experience PlanetSide's story and lore.

The Shattered Warpgate update will be available to play for free on the PlanetSide 2 public test server starting "soon", Rogue Planet says. You'll be headed back to the frozen world of Esamir, which has been torn apart by some kind of technological apocalypse. As the season progresses, you'll be able to take on new missions to discover the cause of the calamity.

It's a new approach for PlanetSide 2, which has traditionally been hyper-focused on its squad-based combat. That focus, in fact, has acted as a barrier to entry for new players at times - being able to jump in and understand what's going on could be extremely difficult if you wound up with a bad drop.
