Outfit Wars Alpha 2: Finals Recap



Desolation saw fierce action this past weekend, as the top 45 Outfits across all 5 server regions went head-to-head-to-head in a series of thrilling OW finals. Dominant performances, epic comebacks, and the emergence of new heroes ruled the day, as Outfits from each Empire put on an enthralling show in front of all of Auraxis.

Congratulations to all the victors and finalists! Today, we raise a glass to your accomplishments. Tomorrow, we turn our eyes to the next cycle, as we work to incorporate your feedback on the entire competitive format (qualification and finals) for future Outfit Wars. More on that soon!

Welcome back to Desolation, soldiers! Outfit Wars make their triumphant return this Saturday, May 16, as the best Outfits across Auraxis (in all 5 server regions!) gear up for a momentous series of 144-player matches. Nothing less than offplanet supremacy hangs in the balance...

The Alpha 2 cycle of Outfit Wars saw some major changes to qualification, and we're continuing to gather community feedback as we iterate and balance for future cycles. But now its time to turn our attention to the asteroid as the top competitors ready for battle!

[h2]ALPHA 2 SCHEDULE[/h2]


The Alpha 2 cycle of Outfit Wars saw over 170 Outfits enlist for qualification, and each one of our finalists earned their way into these finals. Congratulations, soldiers, your deeds will be forever celebrated by your Empire! 

This Saturday, each server will feature 3 Outfit Wars matches (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) between the top-3 qualifying Outfits from each Empire. One change this cycle is that match start times have been spaced out 30 minutes apart, so viewers can tune in to action across the competitive tiers. We'll be hosting coverage from our talented community casters all day on twitch.tv/planetside2, starting on SolTech at 4:00 AM PDT (8:00 PM local server time)

[h2]RULES & REGS RECAP[/h2]


Outfit Wars matches are epic 48v48v48 player contests between all three factions on Desolation, an asteroid belt harboring ancient Vanu relics located deep in space. Each match begins with a 20-minute deployment period for Outfits to get organized beneath a protective shield near their command center. After deployment ends, a 90-minute alert kicks in to determine the fate of each match. Outfit Leaders: be sure that your platoon mates are flagged with the "Outfit War Eligible" privilege to afford them access to Desolation!

The objective for each Outfit is to capture and control critical territories on Desolation – Vanu obelisks – which accrue points for each second under that Outfit’s control. The only way to earn points is to capture and hold those obelisks, which requires exceptional coordination, skillful teamwork, and decisive tactics, with two formidable opponents vying across the same ground! The first Outfit to reach 750 points (up from 500 last cycle), or the Outfit with the highest score at the end of the alert, will have won the match on behalf of their Empire.   

Participating Outfits will have their armory of War Assets available (with the exception of the Bastion Fleet Carrier), and can continue to craft Assets during the match. Each Desolation Command Center is fitted with a Cortium Silo housing 75,000 Cortium, along with pre-installed vehicle and air pads capable of spawning all standard vehicles. The Construction System can be used across all of Desolation, and Cortium nodes can be found scattered throughout. However, resources are scarce (you do not use nanites to pull vehicles, and Cortium is limited) so spend wisely! 

When the Alert ends, all victorious players in the zone will be granted the "Warrior" special title to commemorate their achievement! Winning Outfits will also receive a completed Bastion Fleet Carrier as a reward for their valor.

Outfit Wars Qualification Starts Tomorrow!



The wormhole orbiting Auraxis beckons, soldier, and you don't want to miss your last chance to enlist for Outfit Wars before qualification opens tomorrow, Friday, May 8, at 2:00 PM (local server time)!

So far, over 160 Outfits have enlisted across every server region for the OW Alpha 2 cycle! We've made some major changes to the format, so read on for all you need to know to book your ticket offplanet for the Outfit Wars finals on Saturday, May 16

[h3]QUALIFICATION TIMING[/h3]
One major change this cycle is that qualification now occurs in concentrated windows spread across 3 days. This is intended to encourage shorter, more intense ops sessions during peak server pops, and add R&R time in between qualifying windows. Full schedule below (times are the same in each server region*):
  • Qualification Phase 01: Friday, May 8 from 2PM to 10PM 
    Qualification Phase 02: Saturday, May 9 from 2PM to 10PM
    Qualification Phase 03: Sunday, May 10 from 2PM to 10PM
*Server regional time zones: Connery (PDT), Emerald (EDT), Cobalt/Miller (CEST), and SolTech (JST)



[h3]QUALIFICATION SCORING[/h3]
Qualification still occurs entirely on live servers through normal gameplay, rewarding the top Outfits who contribute the most in service to their Empire.

This time around, we've reworked scoring to weight total contributions to successful combat ops (base capture and defense) and removed the emphasis on base ownership. Instead of gaining a static value by capturing a base, or owning it as resources tick up, Outfits earn the combined totals of the top-10 eligible Outfit mates who contribute to a base capture or defense. Outfits can now earn up to 250 OW points (equivalent to 25,000 combined score) for each capture, and up to 100 OW points (equivalent to 10,000 combined score) for a successful defense.

Additionally, participating Outfits receive 1000 OW points for spawning a Bastion, and 100 OW points for contributing to the destruction of an enemy Bastion weakpoint - both significant actions that decisively impact Empire strength on the field of battle.

As with last cycle, the top-3 Outfits from each Empire and region will advance to the Preparation Phase, before warping to Desolation for the Outfit Wars finals on Saturday, May 16!

This is your last chance this cycle to enlist and prove your worthiness to represent your Empire on Desolation - glory and the spoils of war await, soldier!

PC Game Update: May 6, 2020



All PC servers will come down tomorrow, Wednesday, May 6, at 6:00 AM PDT (3:00 PM CEST) to bring you the latest game update.

Tomorrow's patch includes numerous bug fixes that were tested on PTS over the weekend, along with an additional change matching Bastion terminals to the colors of their faction.

Downtime is expected to last up to 4 hours.

[h3]Misc. Changes, Fixes, and Additions[/h3]
  • Fixed an issue where remote client animations can become desynced during a reload.
  • Tactical deployables will no longer consume the item if it fails to place. This would most commonly happen when a character was moving during placement.
  • NSO Seraph Shield no longer spawns a Caltrop while active.
  • Tracked Directives will no longer clear when logging out and logging back in with the same character.
  • Fixed a literally unplayable typo in the Construction Faction Banner description.
  • Fixed various asset-related issues and misaligned walls on Desolation.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a server crash in some extremely rare cases.
  • Bastion terminals now match the color of their respective faction.
