Go-Go Town! News

Go-Go Town has an Early Access release date AND a Roadmap!

Hello Mayors! We’re excited to announce that:
Go-Go Town! is coming to Early Access on June 18th!
This has been the culmination of quite a lot of work, and at the same time, it’s just the beginning. We can’t wait for you to experience the game beyond the playtests and join us on the journey to 1.0.

Want to know when it’s coming to your part of the world?

And of course, it wouldn’t be an EA announce without a big ol’ roadmap, so you can see what we’ve got planned throughout the Early Access period. We’ve got a lot of things that we want to roll out, and some secret things that will only come to light a bit later. Take a look:

And finally: Next Fest kicks off TOMORROW, but our updated demo is live RIGHT NOW, so you can check it out immediately!

With our inclusion in Next Fest, we wanted to make things a bit… chaotic. So we’ve added a critter slider into the mix! This will multiply the amount of wildlife in your town—and for every 5K demo downloads, we'll add an additional level! At a certain point, it will be putting your CPU through the paces. So how many creatures can you add to your town before things go haywire? Only one way to find out!

Go-Go Town! looks like every cosy city builder's dream, and I am entirely too giddy about the fact I can high-five every animal

It took less than 10 seconds of Go-Go Town!'s trailer at the PC Gaming Show to reel me in: A game where I can build an arcade that has a sign referencing Street Fighter and a DDR-inspired cab inside? Prideful Sloth is a developer after my own heart, and I'm over here secretly hoping that I can build a thousand of them and rule over an arcade empire...

And don't forget to tune into the PC Gaming Show with us this Sunday, June 9th at 1pm PT // June 10th @ 6am AUS time for some seriously juicy Go-Go Town! news! It’ll be the talk of the town for sure.

Go-Go Town! coming to Next Fest!

We’re going to be in Next Fest!

Starting on June 10th (or maybe a bit before 😉), you’ll be able to dive in to a brand-new updated demo. Boss has thrown you right in the midst of a failing town, and you’ll have even more tools and décor at your disposal to bring it to glory.

You’ll be able to experience:
  • The core gameplay loop of Go-Go Town! 🌇 build up your town, customize the layout, convince tourists to live in your town (then put them to work!), and automate your way to success!
  • Single Player and Co-op Play with up to 4 players 🎮⌨️ either local or via Steam Remote Play
  • The ability to lay out your town the way you want 📐 put roads, rivers, and shops wherever you’d like
  • 16 shop varieties in three different sizes, machines to refine resources to build them, and recipes for food and items to sell at the shops
  • Four industry zones: 🌾🎣🌳⛏️ Farming, Fishing, Forestry and Mining - all with power tools to help you gather resources
  • Ride vehicles (with friends!) 🚙 and use them to carry materials around to help build your town
  • Localised in-game text & subtitles 🔡 in French, German, Japanese, Simplified & Traditional Chinese, Korean, Thai, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin America Spanish.

If you’ve played the demo before, we’ve also added a few new things - and the💡emoji means the update was inspired by our community!
  • Updated AI 🤖 NPCs were pretty clueless at their job, we’ve made them less clueless. Workers will prioritize the needs of the town, couriers will carry multiple items, and more! (but still: be patient with them)
  • Updated build mode 🏗️ We've made things easier to build in your town - edit and delete are now the same control, you can see the outline of a building before placing it, and now when you place décor items, you can rotate them before they get placed.
  • Camera controls 🎥 Zoom in and out, get some angled views - you're ready for your close up!
  • Expanded Industry 🧰 Introducing: protein! You can harvest it from mushrooms on the farm, or use the seafood converter in the Fishing Zone, and different shops will use it in new recipes. We've also added new recipes for processors, so you can make cheese, honey and butter, as well as additional seeds for the farm.
  • New tourists 💁🏻‍♀️ If you want to have tourists join your town, they'll now have special requests: build something, collect something, or sometimes just pay them - it depends!
  • Updated map 🗺️ The map is now super-charged. There are more elements that you can see, like individual tourists, you can filter it to only show what you're interested in - or what you'd like to hide away
  • Quality of Life Upgrades 📈
    • Save management has been added, and your save file will show details about your town when you load it.
    • 💡 We've changed language in areas to be more clear - machines will now say "set recipe" so it's super clear.
    • 💡Customize the colors of buildings and shops. This isn't fully customizable yet, but there are now color randomizers attached to most buildings.
    • 💡Un-hire couriers (we know this has been a big ask!)
    • You can now hold to pick up and drop items (very useful with throwing garbage out)
    • Swinging on swings is now possible
    • 💡 Re-binding keys (also very requested!)
    • Controllers will now rumble

And that’s not all! We’re excited to announce that we’ll be included in the PC Gaming Show this Sunday, June 9th at 1pm PT (June 10th @ 6am AUS time) and we HIGHLY recommend you tune in—we’ve got some pretty great things to share!

You can check it out on Twitch or YouTube - don’t forget to put it on your calendar!

Join us in March for Playtest 4

Gosh!

How is it March already?! It feels like it was only a few weeks ago that we wrapped up Playtest 3. Yet here we are! Playtest 4 is starting.

The team has been busy working on getting new features in, as well as getting everything ready so you can recruit additional Mayors to help with your town.

Local/Splitscreen Co-op has been a lot of fun for the team do develop. We've also identified the 'chaotic' team members amongst us. I won't name anyone, but you KNOW who you are :D

I realised late Feb that I had not posted a mini roadmap for this playtest. I am truly sorry about that! It slipped past me.

Playtest 4 has been such a great reflection point for the team!

At this time last year (early March 2023) we were frantically getting a build in order, preparing to announce the game and showcase it at PAX East. We were very nervous about how Go-Go Town! would be received. It was VERY early in development (it had only been in development for a year), and we were really worried about showing it so early.

And here we are, one year on from that. We are no longer worried about showing the game so early. The playtests, and feedback from players, have been amazing. They have helped us work out what to focus on, and understand what is important to you. The feedback has helped guide the big and small in the game. From a complete redo of the opening of the game (and tutorials) to the types of fun and playful content we have in the game :)

We are also excited that we have so much happening this month - it feels like a celebration of how far we've progressed in the past year!

We are part of the Women-led Games Showcase (https://www.twitch.tv/womenledgames), as well as The Games with Wings Showcase (https://www.twitch.tv/wingsfundme). Both of these are absolute honours to be a part of. There are so many amazing games out there, and to think that we'd be considered worthy of showing is heartwarming.

We're also sending some of the team to GDC in a few weeks, so hopefully you aren't getting too fatigued about hearing from the team.

From a development point of view, we have been working through our backlog and starting to prioritise what we want to get into the game next. We'll be supporting the playtest and fixing bugs that you might come across! However, we do want to start thinking about 'What Next'. And I'll work to get a roadmap up for this sometime in April.

I'll wrap up here - and I'll include the details for Playtest 4 invites below.

I do, however, want to just say one more time 'Thank you for joining us over the past year'.

What changes have been made since the last Playtest? 👷🏻
  • Split-Screen Co-op 👥 That's right, play with up to four total people in split-screen co-op, either Local or via Steam Remote Play
  • New Hidden Areas 🔍 What, did you think we would just tell you where they are? Go explore!
  • New Clothing, Props, and Décor 👔🎇🍄 We've got two new sets of props and decorations, the Lunar New Year Set and the Fairy Set!
  • New Vehicles 🚲 🪲 With co-op comes new ways to ride vehicles with friends—try them out! We also have TWO new vehicles, a quad bike and a secret one that you'll have to find (but we promise it's worth it)
  • Fishing Updates 🎣 Everyone wants that thrill of pulling up a boot instead of a fish, so we've delivered. Junk fishing spots are now available!
  • Emotes & Rock Paper Scissors 👊🏽 ✋🏼✌🏾You can high-five and play Rock Paper Scissors with your co-op buddies (farm animals will also join in on some high-fives!)
  • Performance, Physics, and UI Improvements 🎛️ We've put in fixes for usability in the Build and Manage menus
  • New languages 🔡 Added Thai, Korean, and Traditional Chinese Languages

🗓️ It will be open from now through the end of the month (12:01AM U.S. PDT / 5PM AEST). We are inviting people in waves to make sure things don't get overwhelmed, so you might get access before your friends! Everyone on our mailing list will be invited by March 19, and then we'll start sending out keys automatically.
