Hello Mayors!

This year, as always is moving quickly, and we wanted to pop in to give you an overview of our plans for the upcoming year! We’ve been deep in the throes of online co-op, and finding new things to optimize every day. But we’ve also been cooking up some new things for you before co-op!

Tourists: you love them, you wish they would stop littering everywhere—what if you could read their minds? What if they also had specific wants for food, shopping, and entertainment? Great news! We’ll be doing a complete overhaul of how tourists work for our next Major Update called (appropriately) Tourist Trap, which will add new strategy for both early and late-game players. Stay tuned, as this is almost ready to go into Preview Build, and if you’re wiling to dive in, we’d love to have feedback about it!

We’ve been excited for this one for a while—and they just announced a release date for this August! Manage your own mobile bookshop, travel around, meet customers, stock books they need. A beautiful game, and the devs are very nice (we were both at the Indie Arena Booth at Gamescom)

From Wholesome Games’s publishing arm, this is a cute puzzler where you have to figure out how to place people in a scene where they’re all satisfied. Trickier than it looks, but really satisfying controls and cute to boot.

A beautiful diorama creator focused on—you guessed it—islands and trains. It’s very meditative and calming, a great little way to give your brain a break if you’ve been deep in other games (ask us how we know)

Hello Mayors!

Happy April! We wanted to focus this update on what’s next on our plate and talk through what that process has been like. That’s right, it’s time to talk ONLINE CO-OP!

We know this has been a very, very, very requested feature, and even we ourselves are excited for it. BUT it does involve a lot of work (but it’s worth it). When we start accounting for things like lag, we have all sorts of new variables like “if your friend’s internet lags, and they spend all your money, what happens if you try and spend your money?” Some very fun thought experiments!

But the great thing is we’re making progress:

…despite some bug squashing that we still need to do, as you can see! 😅

But we’re very excited for you to get to take a turn soon. And yes, this does mean that there will be no split screen for online co-op!

We’ll share more information as we get it, so stay tuned here and on social and in Discord. It will probably spend quite a bit of time in the Preview Branch, so we’ll appreciate all the stress testing that we can when we push it there (and we’ll let you know, don’t worry!)

We’re so excited that our fourth Major Update: Spring Cleaning, is now available! We hunkered down and focused on quality of life improvements, and they include some pretty major ones that we know you all have been looking for! ✨ And with the Spring Sale kicking off, the game is now 20% off! ✨

You can check out the full patch notes here, but we’ve listed out some key ones below as well: 

Personal Vehicle & Tools 🪚🚙 You can now store a tool and a vehicle in a patented TownCo Dimensional Pockets, allowing quick an easy access at a moments notice! Includes a new UI Widget to help track your currently stored items.

Town Info App ℹ️ Everything you want to know about your town - now in the palm of your hand! What fitouts you have, where your workers are, what shops need what food, housing, and more. It'll alert you when there's a problem (Mana Extractor is full, NPC is stuck trying to get where they want to go) too!

360° Camera Rotation 🔁🎥 You've asked for it, we've... put it as an experimental setting for you to rotate the camera 360°! Head to options and you'll be able to turn this on, and you can rotate to your heart's content. You can also increase the orbit a bit more horizontally for non-experimental play!

Rotate NPC housing 🔁🏘️ Build the apartment and housing blocks of your dreams. You can now rotate small houses and apartments in any direction you'd like! They also now have a visual indication if there's an empty spot to add a townie in

Animal Feed Refinement 🐄 Tired of those feed drops cluttering up your farm? No longer! We've added a new machine, the Automated Feed Maker, which generates feed over time, so you can have a farm for your animals with none of those pesky crops.

Trader Improvements 🛍️ We've got a few updates for the Traders, but first up: a new UI! You can purchase as many items as you want from available stock, can buy from their back catalog AND can see that there are items you have yet to collect!

Managed Stalls 🛒 You can now set up to 5 items on Market Stalls and Vending Machines for couriers to auto-deliver!

Music Updates 🎶 We've added new music AND now have multiple playlists you can choose from based on your vibe. Will you choose "Mega Mingle" "Lo-fi and Chill" or "Funk n Bop"? And if you're not vibing with a song, remove it entirely, or if you really like it, create a playlist of your favorites.

Light in Dark Spaces 💡 Fear caves and sewers no more - you'll have a light around you in dark environments to help show the way.

Text And Drive 🤳🏼 Wait no! Well, you can now access your phone while riding a vehicle or using a tool. Please use SlothOS responsibly

New food cart 🌮 Hungry? The new Tac-Oh! truck with its taco recipe is sure to give your tourists what they need.

Crab & Lobster Pots 🦀🦞 There's a new pot, the Lobster Pot, which only harvests lobsters. This means the normal Crab Pot will now only catch crabs (and has a snazzy new look). They'll take a bit more time now to harvest - but worth the wait!

Scooter 🛵 You saw it in the demo, it got removed and we didn't realize it (whoops!), but it's BACK - a scooter of your very own to import.

Infinite Seeds 🌱 Now your farmers are pulling their weight! Seeds are now infinite, and can be planted as many times as you want. Crops will now automatically reset after harvest too!

Weather Randomization 🌸☔️ Ironically, this means weather will now follow a more predictable pattern. Cherry Blossoms for all!

Fourth Worker Slot for Industries 👥👥 Put even MORE townies to work with a fourth slot now available for the Mining, Forestry and Fishing Zones

Customization & Color Palette Improvements 🎨 Even more things to be painted: bridges, garbage bins, and things in the park (swings, slide, lights, bench). We've also made the color palette tool even better, and you can cycle through colors in a swatch!

Key rebinding ⌨️
Alternative Milk 🫛 There are now non-dairy cheese and butter recipes for the Dairy Maker. Start planting your soy beans! We've also updated Challenge 04 to ask you to build a dairy maker instead of a cow stall, in case you don't want to build an animal farm at all.

New Exterior Visuals 🆕 A fresh coat of paint and adjustments on things. Rustic Picnic Table and Outdoor Settings are now dockable, car parks and bike racks have variants. You can now build in the Alien spawning zone. Four new channels to set the TV to. And more!

…and of course, we couldn’t help ourselves and added a few new decor items too!

General Gameplay Changes

• Stinky Grots will now wait a while before stinking up the joint, should mean no more rainbow sickness right at the entrance to your towns.

• Added Food Cart - Tac-Oh! and supporting Taco Recipe to the Expanded Fitouts package in tier 4 of EGO Tech
• Players can now build in the ||Alien spawn|| area
• Added scooter vehicle, it can be purchased through imports once the Courier building is unlocked
• Small House and Apartments can now be rotated
• Small House and Apartments now have a visual indication for vacancy

  • Lo-fi and Chill: For a softer cozy experience. Vibe away.
  • Funk 'n' Bop: For higher energy toe-tapping.
• PLUS you can also customize your playlist by...
  • favouriting tracks: This will add the track to a 4th completely custom station.
  • muting tracks: This will skip the track, allowing you to prune any songs you're not a fan of.
• Added 24 minutes of new music
• Made the drone propeller sounds a bit quieter and less annoying!

• Players can now store a tool and a vehicle in their patented TownCo Dimensional Pockets

Customization

• Added 4 TV channel visual variants
• Added visual variants to car parks and bike racks
• Added dockable surfaces to Rustic Picnic Table and Outdoor Setting
• Worklight tripod can now be painted
• Park assets (swing, slide, light, bench) can now be painted
• All bridges can now be painted
• Garbage bins can now be painted

Camera Updates

• Increased the default amount you can rotate the camera horizontally
• Camera will pan slightly to the side when using the phone app to better frame the character.
• Added experimental 360 degree camera mode. You can find this in the options menu!

New Phone App : "Town Info"

• Shows a breakdown of information from your fitouts, industries, workers, houses
• Highlights items in alert state ( ie, Townie can't path to destination, or Mana Extractors need moving)
• Should help you get a better understanding of your town as a whole, and what items you should be producing!

Trader Improvements

• Trader spawn randomisation has been adjusted to provide a better distribution of Traders and Products
• You will now get a new notification showing what each trader is bringing, with a special highlight for previously unseen items
• New Trader UI!
• Players can now purchase as many items as they like from the available stock
• Players can now purchase any items they have previously seen from a Trader's back catalogue
• Players are able to see the entire stock for a Trader to know if there are items they have yet to collect.

Build Mode

• You can now cycle through the colours in a swatch

Input

• Added a host of new bindable controls! Including keyboard binds for player movement and camera control

Bugfixes

• Fixed Gem visual mismatch (Gem items, Gem Nodes, and Gem Dust are now visually unified)
• Fixed collision on Subway Map Sign
• Fixed vehicle wheel rotation speed with the POWER OF MATH!
• Fixed missing ducky dockable drop from Octowurst fishing spot
