What are Scenarios?

👉 Scenarios will be a series of standalone maps, characterised by open gameplay and fresh story arcs.

👉 Some will give insights into the main storyline, others a fresh, more radical gameplay experience.

👉 These maps will offer high-replayability through dedicated challenges, to test your proficiency.

Scenario n°1 - The Crumbling Crown

Our first Scenario revolves around a young lord - Grian. Upon returning home, he finds the lands that are rightfully his, torn by conflict and power struggles. He must now prove himself worthy of his title, claim back what is his, and show cunning in the handling of capricious neighbours.

It's been a month since we released in 1.0 (already?? 😱)

While we shared our high-level roadmap, we want to let you know exactly what we're working on.

It will bring our first Scenario map - and we want YOU to try it out. 🫵

👉 Select open_beta branch > Play!

We recommend you stay on the Open Beta branch until Update 1.1 is publicly released.

Please note - In-game texts will only be available in English for the Open Beta. Also, you will likely encounter bugs. These will be ironed out for full release!

🐞 Known Issues
  • AI armies might stop moving and stay idle
  • AI armies might stop respawning after a while
  • Gestalt hero revive may break
  • Optional objective does not complete after conquering 17/17 locations
  • Freya's Wings of Urak battle card is locked
  • Sanguine Vow called Drain Light II in level up screen
  • Speech bubbles don't display properly
  • Some tooltips remain on screen for longer than they should

🚀 Road to Launch #3 - Campaign & Difficulty Settings 🚀

Greetings, heroes of Songs of Silence! ⚔️

We continue our Road to Launch series... (finally! 🥳)

This week, we give you an insight on TWO key parts of ✨Songs of Silence✨!
  • ⚔️ The Campaign
  • ⚖️ The Difficulty Settings

Early Access and player feedback (you!) enabled us to improve and even rehaul certain chapters! 🛠️

This also fueled development for the rest of the campaign.

As for Difficulty Settings, both provided us with precious balancing inputs! 💡

[h2]⚔️ The Campaign ⚔️[/h2]

[h3]📖 Chapter 2[/h3]

When we released into Early Access, chapter 2 was strongly criticized. 😤

It suffered from several issues, which led us to the following changes:
  • We shortened and rehauled the first section for a faster, simpler navigation 🗺️
  • We improved the movement meter to indicate when a player may hide or not 📏
  • We reworked the forests and armies placed in the middle section to be more intuitive 🌲
  • We fine-tuned the AI to be less punitive 🩹

[h3]⛰️ Terrain & Decorations[/h3]

Between Early Access and 1.0 release, every campaign map (as well as skirmish) underwent a beautification pass. 💅

In practice, this meant adding...
  • 3D decorations 🗿
  • Improved terrain textures ⛰️
  • Unique shaders and VFX 🌪️

A video game isn't really one without some secrets... 🤫

We sparkled them throughout the campaign to incentivise exploration.

We don't want to spoil you, so here's a hint of what to look out for... 😏


[h2]⚖️ Difficulty Settings ⚖️[/h2]

Its main objective: cater to multiple strategy playstyles - from hardcore to casual.

Below is an overview - straight out of our Game Design documents - how Difficulty Settings work.

Armies

Adjusting difficulties revolves around neutral and AI army compositions. 👹
  • Adjust Hero levels / maximum army sizes
  • Adjust army compositions for existing armies (neutral & AI)
  • Adjust AI hero revive pools (max respawn with weaker / stronger armies)
  • Adjust AI hero respawn timers
  • Add additional neutral or AI armies to maps
  • Add cards to AI Hero pools
Locations
  • Adjust location balancing
  • Adjust location starting state per difficulty (Prosperity level or ruined)
Objectives
  • Adjust objectives dynamically between difficulty levels
