New Half-Life 2 speedrun will make Valve cry

Half-Life 2 speedruns are pretty surreal. In the almost 20 years since Valve's iconic FPS game first arrived on PC (by the way, guys, if you're reading this, feel free to do Half-Life 3 any time now, yeah?) almost every aspect of Gordon Freeman's trek through City 17 has been pulled apart, glitched, broken, and exploited. Now, a new and highly frenetic run of Half-Life 2 Episode 2 has arrived, proving that, with the right moves and a lot of good luck, you can beat the entire Steam shooter in less than ten minutes. Team Fortress 2 Sniper actor John Lowrie is back at Valve and working on a new project. With Team Fortress 2 now 16 years old (oof, that hurts), the thought of something new for the FPS game is tantalizing. But perhaps it's even bigger. Lowrie tells fans to "stay calm," but he's also lent his talents to Half Life 2 and Left 4 Dead, and his partner and regular collaborator is of course, Ellen McLain, aka, GLaDOS from Portal. I don't want to get too excited here, but we have been waiting on Half-Life 3 for a pretty long time now. Do I dare to dream?

Here's the latest fan attempt to create Half-Life 2: Episode 3

Whether or not we see another Half-Life game after the excellent Half-Life: Alyx is entirely down to the capricious whims of Valve, but one thing we can be sure of is that it won't be in the form of Half-Life 2: Episode Three. For starters, simply too much time has passed for Valve to make another straightforward expansion to Half-Life 2. But there's also the fact Half-Life 2's writer, Marc Laidlaw, released his vision for the story of that elusive final episode...
