Demo Patch

[h3]Input Improvements (Controller)[/h3]
  • You can now dash with LT, reload with LB.
  • Previously Dash was bound to A, you can still use that if desired, but the new default is the Left Trigger (aka L2 on Sony controllers) for gamepad users! This should be a lot more comfortable.


[h3]Fixed[/h3]
  • Mashing the A/Enter button during loading screens could cause weird behaviour
  • Tutorial overlay for controls was too briefly displayed, should now give a bit more time to read


[h3]Rebalanced[/h3]
  • Gold is gained more easily now
  • Power (blue potion) won't litter the map as quickly anymore
  • Significantly reduced weapon prices so you can get that sweet, sweet Prismatic Staff quicker :)

[h2]Don't miss the second map![/h2]

The second door in the hall of relics (next to the desert door) will open at some point during the demo. Keep playing if it has not opened for you yet! I've seen some streamers that haven't entered the second map, but it's there. :)

You can continue playing the demo even after winning a round by hitting the resume button.

[h2]Don't miss the dragon![/h2]
When your power bar (the blue one) is full, you can summon the dragon with the right mouse button (or the right shoulder button, RB, on a controller). I've seen people miss that bit and will improve the onboarding/UX for that feature.

[h2]Wealth is coming[/h2]
I'm aware that the gold gain rate is too low, will ship a patch to help with that. I want you to be able to afford at least one or two weapons more quickly! Especially my favourite, the Prismatic Staff with chain lightning!

There will be various bug fixes shortly, please keep reporting them via the in-game system (pause during a run, there you'll find the bug report option).

My next priorities besides fixing bugs are to add depth to the abilities, so that they scale in more interesting (and formidable) ways, opening up more builds. I'm aware that some players prefer auto-aim, so DPS passives are also on the roadmap to enable more flexible builds that rely more/less on aiming. Aiming will be important for bosses, so I don't want to eliminate it entirely. I'm also looking into improving control layouts (dashing is not ideally positioned) and perhaps introducing an auto-attack toggle that keeps your main attack active.

I am datablob, a solo indie developer from Germany and the person behind Black Dragon Mage. The first public demo is finally out! In this demo, you'll take on the roll of the solitary mage facing the odds, tearing through waves of demonic hordes and harvesting their souls for your gain, growing your power, and avenging your own death! You'll begin your journey in the Desert of Legion, fighting your way to Gravehearth Hollow.

Expect gorgeous elemental magic projectiles, tactical opportunities involving the (often outrageously explosive) environment, lovingly crafted visual effects that I've poured my very own soul into - and of course, you may enter the battlefield riding your very own companion Black Dragon, using its elementally enhanced breath to great effect, making sure that your wicked foes shall perish!

This is the first taste of the final game. There will be updates going forward. I'm only a solo dev, so there are bound to be a couple of bugs, despite best efforts on my part! Should you encounter any issues, please report them to me via the in-game feedback option (hit Escape or Start for the pause menu, there you'll find a Bug Report option).
