Unrailed 2 Community Update: More Improvements!

We're back with another update to cover what we've been working on since our previous community update.

There's been a lot of feedback here and on our Discord server and we're working hard to incorporate as much as possible as fast as possible! Here's a selection of new QOL-features, balancing and bugfixes implemented since the last update (for more info take a look at the individual changelogs here, here, here, here, here and here):

[h3]Quality of Life Improvements[/h3]
  • Save game recovery that enables you to save the game at the start-up after a crash.
  • Improved automatic graphics-driver detection when starting the game.
  • All D-Pad buttons are now per default emoji/bot-shortcuts. The control-drawer is not left-stick-press on controller.
  • Online lobbies are now by default private.
  • Lobby browser doesn't show full lobbies anymore.
  • UI-Scaling option in settings.
  • Replay menu added.
  • Picking items from wagon has lower priority when not faced directly to make it easier picking up items in front of a wagon.
  • Torpedos are not grid aligned anymore.
  • The storage-push extension now pushes to the closest storage-wagon that is free instead of waiting for the closest one to free up.

[h3]Balancing Updates[/h3]
  • The toy-engine doesn't loose bolts on crash anymore, and toy-engine saves can be loaded multiple times.
  • The slot machine station now takes at most 4 tries to win.
  • Map rotations removed as they led to confusion or motion sickness for some players. We're working on a solution to have them back but still solve the two issues with it.
  • Balancing: Nether and Lollipop cartridge don’t cancel anymore but lead to a very easy and very hard path when both are equipped.
  • Octoboss waits slightly before it starts shooting water and shoots less often.
  • The turret prioritizes trees and rock before canyon-mountains.
  • Wagons, cartridges or extensions taken in versus will now also unlock

[h3]Crash and Bugfixes[/h3]
  • Crash in the lobby due to certain usernames.
  • Crash that happened with corrupt progress or save files.
  • A crash could happen on deleting a custom map.
  • Game could freeze when walking on a waiting area in a shop.
  • The station was showing the wrong number of bolts when the map had a cassette.
  • The wagon printer was spawning a new wagon where it could not be picked up.
  • The game-window was not being in focus on start. This could lead to the impression that the controller was not working.
  • The map-generation was taking a long time on in the island biome.
  • The engine and skin buildings were not appearing in the main menu.
  • The toy-engine was crashing multiple times at the end of the credits.
  • Some players were not able to open the lobby browser or enter any kind of online lobby - let us know whether this fixed your case.
  • Wrong resolution shown in settings for Mac users.
  • Sometimes it was not possible to connect the stated amount of animals to a milk wagon.
  • The front-pull extension was sometimes not working with the carriage wagon.
  • Animal attached to the milk wagon should not be squashed as easy as before and should survive biome transitions.
  • Nether and lollipop cartridges were drawable at the slot station.
  • Respawning was broken when being killed while riding an animal.
  • Milk wagon milk effect stacking was broken.
  • Reduced camera flickering in replays.
  • Water draining during dialogs.
  • Hide player out of screen bubbles during loading screen.
  • Versus wagon was not added to handbook (now it’ll be added the the first versus station).
  • Final station was not added to the handbook.
  • Tools on ground were sometimes invsibile.

We are aware that there are still people having problems connecting to lobbies and encountering crashes. We've listed a couple of workarounds in the last post here and also here. However, if these do not help, please contact us directly either in the Steam forums or even better on our Discord server where we can then try our best to help you individually.

Hi everyone!
Another patch is incoming based on your feedback!

On another note, we found out that with the "Nahemic" audio driver (some MSI software), some players could not start the game. We recommend disabling the software, if possible. It might also lead to freezes or other bugs.

Changelog v-322-85bc6d7:
- Improvement: Nether and Lollipop cartridge don’t cancel anymore but lead to a very easy and very hard path when both are equipped
- Improvement: Torpedos are not grid aligned anymore
- Improvement: Torpedos and crabs can be dropped on low tide
- Improvement: Improved and more precise pickup from wagons (the last version had trouble when stuff is laying around in certain directions)
- Improvement: Next to the version we now also show the run-id
- Improvement: When wagons have multiple stacks and one stack is empty, the other stack will be highlighted when looking at the first stack
- Improvement: Animal attached to the milk wagon should not be squashed as easy as before and should survive biome transitions

- Bug fix: Infinite extensions when resetting at a station (either from storage or from cartridge toaster)
- Bug fix: It was possible to start from the credits biome and from locked biomes
- Bug fix: Respawning was broken when being killed while riding an animal
- Bug fix (regression): Map generation loading screen missing
- Bug fix: Milk wagon milk effect stacking was broken. Now, as long as there is remaining milk of a certain animal, its effect will remain (like in U1)
- Bug fix: Lava blob plunger ropes to milk wagon were flying all around
- Bug fix: “Storage pull” was taking the first in the order of the train instead of actually taking the closest wagon
- Bug fix: Reduced camera flickering in replay
- Bug fix: Water drains during dialogs
- Bug fix: Hide player out of screen bubbles during loading screen
- Bug fix: Versus wagon was not added to handbook (now it’ll be added the the first versus station)
- Bug fix: Final station was not added to the handbook
- Bug fix: Tools on ground are sometimes invisible

Hi everyone!

Another patch before the weekend! Based on the feedback, we added an UI scaling option. Above that and to improve the visual clarity issue, we decided to take out the map rotations - we're curious what you think and whether it helps or not.
We also added a replay menu. Note that for now, replays are only working with the version it was recorded with - this might change in the future but currently it does not seem worth the effort to keep the compatbility for those quick iterations.

- Improvement: Better graphics driver selection when starting the game for the first time
- Improvement: Online maps are shown first in the custom map menu
- Bug fix: Map gen on islands could take very long (especially extreme)
- Bug fix (maybe): Resolutions on mac sometimes wrong
- Bug fix: Engine and skin building might not appear when playing online only. Now, the engines building appears after connecting to 1 signpost, the skin building after connecting to 5 and the perk building after connecting to 10 (as before)
- Improvement: Lobby browser now doesn’t show full lobbies anymore
- Bug fix: Toy engine is allowed to crash in the credits for good
- Bug fix (maybe): Some players were not able to open the lobby browser or enter any kind of online lobby - let us know whether this fixed your case
- Balance: A slot at the slot station has now 1 - max 4 tries until you win

Hey everyone!
Base on the most pressuring feedback, we provide another patch! For those playing with the toy engine, we tried to make the game less frustrating since bolts should not be removed anymore. Also savegames with the toy engine can be loaded multiple times.
Above that and since the game is not everywhere stable yet, we added a savegame recovery functionality, allowing to restore savegames after the game crashed. For that, just restart the game and you should be asked whether you want to restore the last save.
Let us know if these changes help and if you have any other issues!
