Experimental Version Update

Hey everyone!

We just pushed a big update on experimental previewing upcoming changes.

A lot is about trying to balance the cartridges and introducing a special cartridge type, the "Action-Cartridge". For that, a new start-slot can be bought in the cartridge hub. Throwing and saddle (which has been reworked now) are action cartridges and we added a bunch more: ghost, stomp & a jetpack. Players can only have one action cartridge type which allowed us to change the saddle-cartridge such that you have to press a button to mount (and more.. see the changelog). We probably need a lot of feedback here, so let us know what you think!

Furthermore, there was often the wish for better cartridge balance when joining late into a game. You can now choose among selected cartridges of other players for each boss or extreme node after joining. It doesn't allow to change start cartridges though - we're still into looking that.

We also started a better highscore integration, giving players an ingame crown when being in one of the highscore lists. It's not yet possible to watch replays from others but that is in the pipeline as it has been requested :).

As we rebalanced things a bit, starting from the experimental version, the online highscores are now split.

We're also still working on some controller input issues with newer MacOS versions that might make it hopefully into the next patches.

Changelog v-384-e2d9207:
- New: A cartridge (history) selection menu when joining a game in which you missed opportunities to get cartridges. Can also be access via ESC->Cartridge History
- New: Introduced max cartridge counts for some cartridge when the effect doesn’t scale indefinitely
- New: A new cartridge slot “Action cartridge” has been introduced. Players can only own one action cartridge type. Action cartridges use a button (eg [CTRL]/(Y)) to perform the action. Action cartridges are throwing, riding and a some new ones. Note that the cartridge overwrite can’t overwrite action cartridges.

- New: Stomp-Action-Cartridge
- New: Jetpack-Action-Cartridge
- New: Cartridge replacer modifier for editor (to simulate a cartridge replacer station)
- New: Ingame Crowns for any top 10 highscore entry (week, month, year or all time and can be any engine).
- New: You can see personal highscores when clicking on a name online (only shows it for the Main version though)
- Improvement: You can switch the selected slot in the cartridge hub with Q/E
- Change: In swamp you can now ride the frog instead of the spider & the spider can’t be carried anymore
- Change: Player ring is now projected to the ground
- Balance: Max speed from speed-perk is slightly larger, but the increase per perk is slightly lower
- Balance: Frog has 9 health now instead of 1
- Balance: Stacking has a slightly larger speed penalty
- Balance: Brute force scales a bit slower up but from level 5 on, there is also a chance to hit diagonal neighbours
- Balance: To ride with the riding cartridge you need to press the “perk-action” button. Riding works only a limited time that is based on the amount of riding cartridges you have. While riding, you can do carry/mine/etc and you automatically get the milk buffs of the animal you’re riding
- Balance: It’s now possible to build bridges with compressed wood. Bridges with compressed wood will automatically add bridges on neighboring tiles if possible.
- Balance: Slot machines don’t grant action cartridges
- Balance: Each overwrite at a Cartridge Overwriter station can now be used max 5 times per player
- Balance: Reduced max speed cap for the canyon boss
- Balance: In endless, the countdown gets reduced about a second for each track when placing more than 10 tracks ahead of the train during the countdown
- Bug fix: The ability to place tracks on teleporters has been disabled
- Bug fix: It was possible to place tracks inside shrines on a transition area
- Bug fix: Octoboss map spawned a bolt instead of a cassette
- Bug fix: Sometimes no other players could spawn anymore on custom maps
- Bug fix: Bot easily pick/place loops when using the transformer wagon
- Bug fix: Boss speed on 2nd visits were too slow
- Bug fix: Probably fixed a rare online de-sync issue

The year is not over yet! We just released another batch of fixes we collected during the last weeks.

- Change: Renamed “Lobby settings” to “Manage lobby and players” as it seemed unclear to some that it lets you kick players
- Bug fix: Animals on storage wagon died sometimes
- Bug fix: Bot tried to get water from ebbed tiles in island
- Bug fix: Milk wagon ropes could get very long in replays
- Bug fix: Players sometimes have a very little drag in blueprint areas (this could lead to accidentally continues and then train crashes)
- Bug fix: Spectators received hexnuts
- Bug fix: The game might restore its old savegame when joining a lobby for the second time (eg you buy something and join the same lobby again, you lost your bought item)
- Bug fix: Removed “Hexnut received” toast in replays
- Bug fix: Temporary cartridges were not handled correctly in overwrite stations
- Bug fix (regression): Fire does not spread to neighbours
- Bug fix: Boss achievements would trigger before defeating the boss
- Bug fix: Achievement “Didn't You Forget Something?” triggering with wagon in storage
- Bug fix: Achievement “Just Buy the Whole Place” triggering in the tutorial
- Change: Removed “Out Now!” achievement.
- Bug fix: Achievement “Conductor” icon missing in the handbook
- Crash fix: Game crashed on very high speeds

Holiday update hotfix

Hi everyone!
We just pushed some more fixes for the most recent version :)

Changelog v-354-39589f5:
- Balance: Many achievements now don’t trigger in custom maps anymore
- Bug fix: The bot sometimes could not find a path to water on boiler badland maps
- Bug fix: Respawn balloon was not saved after restart
- Bug fix: Versus wagon did always consume water when hydrocharged
- Bug fix: When a wagon was burning next to a wagon with hydrocharge extensions, the heat was not correctly added up
- Bug fix (regression): Menu could not be controlled with the analog stick anymore

[h3]Crumbly Returns![/h3]
We’ve freshly baked a new batch of our Gingerbread friend and are pleased to announce that they are unlockable together with a festive hat right now until January the 30th! All you have to do is to find a snowman and chop it down!
In addition to our newest character joining Unrailed 2’s roster, we’ve added some more updates.

[h3]Steam Achievements and Trading Cards[/h3]
Yep, you read correctly, Steam Achievements and Trading Cards are now available. Get back on track with Unrailed 2 and earn achievements along the way.

[h3]Bot Improvements[/h3]
We've heard your feedback and invested quite some time into improving the bot experience. Here's what we've changed:
  • The bot can destroy moles, webs, bones or canyon mountains
  • The bot automatically extinguishes the train in wagon mode if there's nothing else to do
  • The bot can now also handle supercharger, miner, collector, magnet, compactor, transformer, carriage, ghost, slot, piggybank and brake wagon
  • The bot now avoids getting wiped out or cocooned by enemies

[h3]Level Editor Improvements[/h3]
We've also made a couple of improvements to the terrain conductor mode:
  • The editor allows to place extensions on wagons to have them start with these extensions
  • The editor allows to place cartridges on spawn points to equip them to players
  • The engine counts down at the beginning of a custom map (this does not affect old maps)

[h3]Control Fixes[/h3]
We got reports from several players that input devices would disconnect or the game would not or would receive wrong inputs. We've completely changed the input handling to fix this issue. Do let us know on our Discord Server if you still have input issues though! And you can always switch back to the old input system by adding "++ --noSDL" to your launch options. You can edit your launch options by right clicking on the game in your Steam library, then clicking on "Properties..." and adding it to the field at the bottom of the "General" tab.

[h3]Ghost Engine[/h3]
Do you sometimes wish your entire train was ghosted? Well now you can make your whish come true with the new ghost engine!

Holiday update changelog

Hi everyone!

We pushed another set of fixes and finally added the achievements as well :)
As mentioned before, we pushed a major part of the update already earlier this week already. However we attached a "full" changelog below for those coming from the big annoucement post.

In case you have not heard it already:
We’re excited to announce the release of our Supporter Pack and official Soundtrack! 🎉
This pack is our way of saying thank you to our amazing community. Inside, you’ll find exclusive new skins, beautiful wallpapers and most importantly, a huge dose of our gratitude and love! ❤️

Concerning the new input-system, we heard that some players had issues with they controllers. If it's not fixed in this version, you can still revert to the original system by using
++ --noSDL
as launch parameter. Nevertheless we'd love to fix all bugs so let us know if you have issues (preferably on https://discord.gg/unrailed ).
