Patch 1.2.3 Notes and May Mid-Month Update

We talked to the weatherman and it seems that Spring is here to stay… at least for a little while longer. Our mid-month skin for May is the brand new, (earthy?) take on the Fire Prince, Dandelion Zetterburn. Full disclosure, we think maybe he saw the lion part of the word and signed up for the job without reading the full terms & conditions… BUT hey! He’s here and he looks GREAT so let’s see what he’s got!

See the Fire's Roar get flowery with the latest bundle that includes the Dandelion Zetterburn skin, emote, icon, and the Dandypoof Death Effect. Bundle also includes 25,000 coins and 250 Aether bucks. This Epic level skin also features brand new custom themed SFX and VFX, including a custom sound for Flame Puddle, custom Fiery Grass hits, and a custom win jingle.
Tune into Combo Breaker 2025 This Weekend
The first LAN event of the Rivals 2 Championship Series is this weekend! Top talent featuring CakeAssault, Stango, BioBirb, and many more are competing for the crown in a massive 256 entrant event. The event will be playing on the previous patch, so today’s changes won’t affect competition last minute - remember, you can opt into the previous patch through Steam Betas if you want to get some last minute practice on 1.2.2.2.

Check out the schedule below and catch the stream HERE.
Player Feedback Survey
We’ve been listening to the playerbase diligently since the launch of Rivals II through Discord, Nolt boards, Reddit, Steam Forums, Blue Sky, X, YouTube, in person, and pretty much ANYWHERE else we could.

Today we’re launching an in-depth player survey geared towards some more specific feedback from our community, and we need your help to get some answers! To access the survey and help shape the future of Rivals of Aether II, simply click the below image OR launch the game and select the survey in our main menu news section.
New Shop Items
We’re adding three new palettes and seven new player icons to the shop this patch. These are a mix of common palettes and rare icons you can grab with coins or bucks:
  • Purple Goliath Kragg palette
  • Mint Cow Loxodont palette
  • Yellow Cupid Fleet palette
  • Birder Terry icon
  • Springbound Zetterburn Icon
  • Avatar icon Line - Avatar icons for Orcane, Zetterburn, Kragg, Wrastor, Zolt, and Pluffel from Creatures of Aether
Balance Changes
We don’t have a lot of balance changes for our mid-month patch, but we do have a few general changes, as well as a few bug fixes and quality of life adjustments.

Note: We will now be specifying quality-of-life (QOL) changes in the patch notes to make it clearer to understand when a change is targeting balance. QOL changes improve the game feel or consistency of a character's options with minimal balance implications.

  • Babydashing now has a 7 frame cooldown between uses. This cooldown shouldn’t affect gameplay from normal human inputs, we’re just adding this to prevent exploits possible with controller assisted methods.
    • Certain controllers or control schemes were able to easily chain multiple babydashes one after the other in rapid succession, trivializing the difficulty of this extremely powerful technique.
  • Bug fix: The inner ledge grab will now automatically change shape with the character's environmental collision box (ECB).
    • This prevents some situations where a character would grab a ledge earlier than intended due to ECB shifting.
  • Bug fix: Fixed a bug that prevented patch 1.2.2's "Opponents that get spiked into the ground without going into tumble will now only get the full hitstun duration if they land within a few frames after being spiked" change from applying, causing opponents to always get the full hitstun duration.
  • Up Air hit 2's lowest hitbox reverted to being a sourspot again.
    • Removing the sourspot made certain setups a little too consistent, while also removing some of the skill expression that the sweet and sour spots could offer, so we're essentially reverting the change. The middle hitbox is still a sweetspot, but it has the lowest priority of the hitboxes, so the move will function almost identically to the pre-1.2.2 version aside from some rare edge cases where both the foot and hip hitboxes barely whiff.
  • QOL: Jab 2 speed boost now occurs 1 frame earlier.
    • This makes the speed boost consistent when performing a tilt boost, regardless of which frame of jab 2's startup you cancel.
  • Bug fix: Gem Field will no longer break projectiles that hit it after it has been deployed.
Known Issues
We’re aware of a hard to trace issue with some of Olympia’s palettes and other assorted palettes causing immediate disconnects for players when trying to start games with them equipped. We wanted to let affected players know that we’re working hard to determine the issue and patch in a fix.

As always, please report any bugs or contact our support team over in our official discord for any issues you’re running into: https://discord.gg/RoA
