Dev Blog #26 - Supervolcano Update!

Welcome back to our Dev Blog!

We're excited to share our progress on our next major content addition: the Supervolcanic Eruption disaster!
A Cataclysmic Event

Our upcoming update introduces the first supervolcanic eruption in modern human history. Coinciding with our Japanese translations, the event centers on the Kikai Caldera in Japan. Players will face:

  • Tsunamis affecting coastlines across Asia
  • Widespread respiratory issues caused by ash
  • A mini ice age altering global climate
  • Worldwide power shortages and food scarcity

We've based this disaster on historical events like the Toba supereruption 74,000 years ago and the 1815 Mount Tambora eruption, which resulted in the Year Without a Summer. Our goal is to combine humanity’s known struggles when suffering large volcanic eruptions in the past, with the added complexities introduced by modern technology.

We welcome your feedback on the translations through our Discord or Steam Community page!

New Features:
  1. Hurricane Quickgame: Experience the last remaining quickgame version of an existing disaster. This mode features the Landfall and Flooding stages.
  2. Hardcore Mode: For players seeking an extra challenge, we're introducing a mode where score effects of your decisions are hidden. This will require you to carefully consider the potential consequences of your actions before committing to them.
Looking Ahead: Update 1.7 and the Supervolcanic Eruption

With all disasters now available in quickgame variants, we're taking the next leap in content expansion. Update 1.7 will introduce an entirely new disaster: the Supervolcanic Eruption.

Early development is already underway, and we look forward to sharing more details as we approach the release. In this catastrophic scenario, humanity will face one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history. Players will need to manage:
  1. The devastating impact on the immediate surroundings
  2. Large-scale tsunamis
  3. A global haze triggering a massive ice age
Stay tuned for more information on this epic new challenge coming to Project Planet!
