Mod of the Season 2

Ahoy!

In the second season of our Steam Workshop series, the winner is Girls Overhaul mod by TemplarFulga!

We congratulate the winner, award the well-deserved $1000 prize money, thank him for the quality content, and ask for more.
I won't provide a link to the mod in the news, just in case. At one point, this work caused censorship to be imposed on our entire mod catalog. Well, those who know, know. ːrofl_pirateː

Additionally, I want to highlight other works from equally talented authors. It's only been half a year since the game code was opened, but you can already see how quickly the Caribbean Legend mod scene is gaining momentum.

We're starting the third season! There was a moment when, following the results of the second season, heated discussions arose. We've collected your feedback and decided to make several changes to the rules and additionally highligh important points.
Third season rules:
  • All mods released from August 1 to December 31, 2025 are eligible.
  • The author or authors of the winning mod receive $1000 in prize money.
  • Author or authors are considered to be Steam users listed on the mod page.
  • Mods that violate any copyrights in any way are not eligible.
  • Victory criteria are determined personally by me (Joruba) and are not disclosed. This way, we protect participants from vote manipulation and any unfair behavior.
  • Once a month I will highlight favorites in the "Mod of the Month" news.
  • The contest is purely a private initiative of BlackMark Studio, aimed at supporting the Caribbean Legend Steam Workshop community. The contest is not an obligation or any other form of compulsion for BlackMark Studio.

With joy and pride, albeit a couple of months late, I announce that BlackMark Studio has entered into strategic cooperation with two popular authors: Pvt. Joker and Apdayk. Their works and more are being developed and will be integrated into the game under our creative control and with our close participation.
Of course, I can't help but once again note and thank sht8694 and MONKEY HOLE, without whom the Chinese localization would have come out much later.

What we do - we do for you.

Now Supports Simplified Chinese

大家好!

We’ve shipped an update: fixed several bugs (including an issue that let you remove yourself from a ship position), improved the game’s font handling, and added support for Simplified Chinese localization.

Caribbean Legend now supports Chinese glyphs, and the entire in‑game text has been translated. I originally planned to get this done by Q2 2026, but thanks to the tireless work of the Chinese player community, you can play it today.

On our side, a huge thank‑you to everyone without whom this wouldn’t have been possible. We’ll keep refining and supporting the translation going forward.

It’s been fifteen years since the series last shipped in Chinese — and we’re finally back. If you’d like to support us, please spread the word on Weibo, Bilibili, Tieba, and to your friends. Every share helps the Chinese community grow. Thank you!

Next week we’ll wrap up Season 2 of the Steam Workshop: the best mod will receive a $1,000 cash prize. With the community’s activity, it’s clear the experiment worked — we’re ready to kick off Season 3, and then Season 4. And so on until we are broke.

What’s next: in August we’ll run at least one survey and publish another set of dev diaries to tease new mechanics and content. We’re not announcing the beta date for the next major patch yet — it’ll launch when it’s ready.

At your service, captains.

Patch 1.5.1

Ahoy!

We're back from our vacations and once again sailing full speed into development. Over the past month, nearly 10,000 new players have joined the game.

The feedback has poured in like a Caribbean tide — and thanks to that, we now have a pretty clear vision of what should be included in the next major patch. This time, we’re setting our sights on the game’s biggest — and most outdated — system.

Once we’ve got something to show, we’ll drop a fresh development diary.
In the meantime, here’s the list of fixes from the past week:

  • Updated portraits for 13 ships (42 total across all hull variants).
  • Improved Bark hull variants and upgraded the rigging.
  • Brigantine — new hull textures.
  • Fixed a softlock in the German localization of the “In Search of the Guardian of Truth” quest.
  • Fixed a softlock in all localizations during the “Ksocheatem” quest.
  • Fixed Gino not appearing aboard the ship.
  • Fixed unique perk for officer Tonzag.
  • Fixed crew upgrade for certain ships.
  • Quest reward in Belize now works properly — docked ships will no longer disappear.
  • Fixed cannon amount on the Meifeng.
  • Mirabelle no longer teleports eerily around the house.
  • Bugfix: Kukulkan statue activation no longer disables saving.
  • Bugfix in the “Dutch Gambit” quest — doors no longer lock up in the beginning of the Dutch route.
  • Bugfix: English patrols no longer spawn instead of French ones on Marie-Galante when smuggling.
  • Bugfix for getting stuck in terrain in Ksocheatem's underwater section.
  • Fixed a bug where players could fall through the ground in Basse-Terre.
  • Gaspar Goldtooth no longer stares blankly at a wall.
  • The “Captive Captain” quest now works properly on the “Memento” deck.
  • Kisses with ladies now work consistently and use a unified system (great for romance mods too!).
  • Cannon calibers are now distributed more accurately in quest encounters.
  • Flagships in quest-related squadrons are now placed more appropriately.
  • Fixed calculation of Fleet Power.
  • Improved treasure map note drops.
  • Fixed typos and improved translations.

Still hard at work — for you.

1.5 Hotfix

Ahoy!
[p]Players have already logged two million hours in Caribbean Legend.
We’ll soon update the repositories for modders and translators.
Over the past week we’ve been busy fixing bugs and polishing rough edges. Here’s the highlight reel:[/p]
  • [p]Fixed a crash when boarding straight from aiming mode.[/p]
  • [p]Quest and DLC ships now behave more sensibly on the world map.[/p]
  • [p]Empty dialogue windows in various localisations are no more.[/p]
  • [p]You can now reliably switch ammo via the Quick Action menu on Steam Deck.[/p]
  • [p]Escorting merchants no longer yields millions in cash.[/p]
  • [p]The multifunctional-specialisation upgrade no longer grants excessive stat bonuses.[/p]
  • [p]The smuggler bug in Amatica Bay has been squashed.[/p]
  • [p]Numerous tweaks to the new DLC—mainly loot and achievements.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed several instances of animation lock-ups.[/p]
  • [p]Polished and corrected both new and legacy quests.[/p]
  • [p]Clean-up in several locations: lighting, stuck spots, character fall-throughs.[/p]
  • [p]Optimised, tidied and finished the Cazador, Memento, brig and barque.[/p]
  • [p]Removed graphical artefacts from shrouds on ships at sea.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed fortress sieges that bugged out when the player had overwhelming troop numbers.[/p]
  • [p]Reworked how gun calibres are assigned to ships, both in quests and at sea.[/p]
  • [p]Skill points now display correctly.[/p]
  • [p]World-map optimisation—micro-stutters should be reduced.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed bonuses on procedurally generated blades.[/p]
  • [p]Various objects (planets, projectiles, aiming reticles, rain, ship lanterns, world-map clouds) now scale properly with screen resolution.[/p]
  • [p]About 50 additional minor bug fixes, localisation tweaks and a light engine cleanup.[/p]
[p]That’s it for now. The team is heading off on a well-earned vacation, while I sit down to plan the next big update—and judging by the early list, I may have overdone it. It’s shaping up to be larger than 1.4 and 1.5 put together. I am genuinely scared.[/p][p][/p][p]But hey, we do it all for you.[/p][p]ːjollyrː[/p]

Chinese Translation in Progress!

Ahoy!
[p][/p][p]Our incredibly talented community members sht8694 and MONKEY HOLE are working on a full Chinese translation for Caribbean Legend.[/p][p]With their permission, we’ll integrate it into the game officially once it’s ready—but first they need your feedback to track down any bugs or issues.[/p][p]You can try the translation through the Steam Workshop mod.[/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]Amazing work, honestly. Adding Chinese has always been a dream of mine, but I never had the slightest idea how to make it happen.[/p][p]Best community in the world![/p]
