Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil introduces you to Anvil via a quest about child labour, a shirtless chase, and quick maths

The modders behind Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil, the massive modding project aiming to add a post-Oblivion-crisis version of the Imperial province to the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's map, have given a lengthy tour of the latest city they've whipped into shape. As teased the other week, that city is Anvil, and it's certainly home to some quirky folks.


Just in case of confusion, what makes Beyond Skyrim different to both Bethesda's Oblivion Remastered and recently delayed Oblivion remake mod Skyblivion is that it'll be introducing a fresh cast of characters and stories to familiar locations from the fourth Elder Scrolls game. After all, by the time of Skyrim, Martin Septim and his contemporaries are long gone.

Don't assume Skyblivion is getting spellcrafting, as its team say UI lead was consulted on delay video despite post suggesting otherwise

Update: In a statement to RPS, Skyblivion comms lead Evan T. Flatt remphasised that when it comes to spellcrafting, while the team would love to deliver it down the line: "We can't guarantee it will be possible - largely due to the technical hurdles of doing so and the very limited number of people skilled in being able to do it."


"As far as concerns that our UI Lead, Fallen, wasn't included in contributing to the delay announcement, that would be inaccurate," Flatt continued. "He did not have a direct role in the video production, including filming and editing, but he did help review the script for accuracy (as did all department leads). After chatting with him, the confusion on his end was due to the time interval between us finishing the script and the video being finished, in which he forgot he had worked on the script."

Skyblivion, the massive modding project reinterpreting The Elder Scrolls 4 via Skyrim's engine, had its release officially delayed to 2026 earlier this week. The delay followed an ex-Skyblivion level and world designer Dee Keyes alleging that the mod's previous 2025 release goal was "unachievable" earlier this year, in a post which also accused Skyblivion project lead Kyle 'Rebelzize' Rebel and implementation lead Heavy Burns of mismanaging communication within the mod's team. In response, Heavy Burns asserted that "many" of the claims in the ex-dev's post were "either misrepresented or just untrue".


Now, in a Discord discussion emphasising that players shouldn't assume the spellcrafting mechanic the modders have had to cut from the initial release will be put back in down the line, Skyblivion's UI department lead has suggested they weren't consulted about what was said in the YouTube video announcing the mod's delay to next year. That'd be the delay announcement video which features a section specifically dedicated to the current status of Skyblivion's UI and mechanics.

Skyblivion, the massive mod remake of Oblivion in Skyrim's engine, won't be making its previously announced 2025 release goal, the team behind it have confirmed. Instead, the mod'll be coming out at some point in 2026, giving the team behind it extra time to overcome the final few hurdles and get it polished up.


This news comes a few months after ex-Skyblivion level and world designer Dee Keyes called the 2025 release goal the mod's team set in 2023 "pointless and unachievable". Keyes also accused Skyblivion project lead Kyle 'Rebelzize' Rebel and implementation lead Heavy Burns of rushing the project out the door and mismanaging communication within the team, subsequently sharing more of his perspective on the project in a video interview with RPS sister site Eurogamer. In a response to Keyes' original claims, Heavy Burns asserted that "many of the statements in his post are either misrepresented or just untrue".

Right, so. There's Oblivion Remastered, the official Oblivion remaster which released earlier this year. There's Skyblivion, the fan-made Oblivion remake mod which still currently looks due out relatively soonish, despite its release window having been a source of drama a few months ago. There's also Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil, another massive Skyrim modding project, but this time seeking to re-create the province in which Oblivion's set as it might be at the time The Elder Scrolls five takes place. March 2026 would be a "fitting" Skyblivion release window, says former dev who called making 2025 "unachievable"

A former developer on massive Elder Scrolls mod project Skyblivion who called its current 2025 release goal "unachievable" has suggested March 2026 as a "fitting" release window for the task of remaking Oblivion in Skyrim's engine.


Around the time of the mod's most recent showcase, ex-Skyblivion level and world designer Dee Keyes put out a tweet accusing its project lead and implementation lead of rushing the mod out the door to meet a 2025 release goal that Keyes dubbed "pointless and unachievable". The modder also accused the pair of mismanaging the project by not keeping up communication between leads and other developers in terms of key decisions. Keyes' claims and very public split from the Skyblivion team naturally led to questions being asked of the remaining Skyblivion devs, with the mod's comms lead telling fans: "Our aim is that it will be by the end of the year, if we as a team decide that it isn't we will be sure to share that."
