1.6.2a Patch Notes
Old Save format Migration
• Old save format (.dat format) should now migrate as well. These are early launch save files, so if you are returning to the game from a long time ago, you should get the option to migrate save files.
  • Note that if you have a save file in Save Slot 1, please delete it in order to migrate an old save file. After migrating an old peaksData.dat file, it will be deleted as the new system will then be used going forward. You'll only be able to migrate a normal mode file.
Bugfixes
• Increased the random intervals between attacks on the birds in Avian Chaos.
  • Fixed a bug with alternate spam providing excessive force.
  • Fixed a bug with time attack adding a decimal after stopping time.
  • Fixed a bug with ice axes and category 4 not showing up in Free Solo or YFYD until after quitting and loading back the cabin.
  • Other minor bugfixes.
1.6.2a
• Fixed some reach force inconsistencies present in the previous patch.

1.6.1 Patch Notes
Updates
Added a new challenge for Free Solo: Avian Chaos.
A challenge for the particularly masochistic.

  • Same as Wally mode, except double the chaos.
  • You'll need to complete the initial avian challenge (Wrath of Wally) in order to start this challenge.
  • Progress in this mode is wiped on death.
  • A new achievement and a secret unlockable will be rewarded for the few who (if any) completes the challenge.
Other Updates
• Increased the time it takes for recovery after getting hit by ice boulders directly on the body/head. Getting hit on the hands is the same as usual.
  • Old save files from Free Solo and You Fall You Die will be deleted upon migrating to the new save system to prevent cheesing.
  • Renamed Time Attack Options to Misc Delete Options as it includes an option to delete progress for Avian Challenges / bird modes.
  • Fixed an issue with ice axes and hands allowing you to almost fly.
  • Fixed an issue with birds preferring the right hand right hand.
Bugfixes
• Fixed a bug where 100% game completion would display as 99%.

Patch 1.6.0c - Save Slots & Other Updates

Hey peakbaggers.
This patch overhauls the save system as well as adding a few other updates and bugfixes, so be sure to check out the changes below.
Overhauled Save System
The save system has been replaced with a more stable one that includes save slots, backups, and safety measures that ensures it won't overwrite progress on the off chance that your files corrupt or otherwise. The previous system was outdated and very prone to issues, so hopefully this new system should be more stable all around.
Save Slots and Backups
• Save and load from 3 different save slots across all modes.
  • Save slots will display a % COMPLETE based on your progress in that slot. E.g. 90% COMPLETE means you have completed 90% of the game.
  • With this new system in place, you can now migrate your old save files to the new system once you go to slot selection. This will migrate your previous save file to the first slot. If you don't have any progress in old files, the migration feature won't show up.
  • Note, you cannot copy and rename files that come from different modes to other modes in order to cheese progress. Doing this will result in the slot displaying "WRONG FILE MODE" and the save will start from the beginning if pressed.
  • Backups are now created for save files. In the event of a save file corrupting, your regular save file will display "Corrupt! Use Backup" and will take you to the Save Folder locally. You can now use the backup files (.bac extension) to retrieve lost progress. Simply remove the .bac extension and rename the slot extension ("PeaksData_Normal_0/1/2") to whatever slot between 0 and 2.
  • Main backup has no additional number after the .bac extension, while files with a number after the .bac extension are backups from different points in the game.
Updates
• Hotkey buttons will no longer readjust view when used on some tools.
  • Improved the collision detection a bit on slopers and general hand holds.
  • Improved front-facing crampon jump detection.
  • Removed Delete Progress from the Main Menu options since the new system incorporates save file deletion. Previous Delete Progress option has been replaced with just deleting Time Attack scores.
  • Added a secret new "mode" along with an achievement for completing all peaks with it enabled.
Can be accessed from the Main Menu after completing the game. Must be used on a fresh file where no peaks have been previously summited.
I don't expect anyone to complete this, at all...
Bugfixes
• Fixed a bug with Category 3 not unlocking after appropriate progress in YFYD and Free Solo. Should unlock after either 5 boulders or 20 fundamentals and 1 boulder.
  • Fixed some issues with velocity during pause.
  • Fixed a bug with pausing the timer while doing a time trial run and summiting.
  • Fixed a bug where you coulden't grab coffee from the belt when you were "coffee high".
  • Fixed a few map collision issues.
  • Other minor bugfixes and tweaks.
Hotfix 1.6.0a
• Fixed a bug with game percentage displaying incorrect numbers.
  • Migrating will disable as soon as you migrate your progress to the new system. If you delete the first slot file from the new system (delete next to the slot), you will be allowed to migrate the file again.
Hotfix 1.6.0b
• Fixed a bug the base ending resetting progress on the new mode.
Hotfix 1.6.0c
• Fixed a bug with ice axes missing in a migrated save file if you had previously unlocked it in an old save file.

Patch 1.5.4a - Final Movement Updates

Hey peakbaggers.
This will be the final patch addressing any major game-breaking parts to the current arsenal of movement tech.

This patch fixes a few game-breaking force techniques as well buffing a few things. This should hopefully make the game more approachable from a speed-running perspective, open up more experimentation with routing, as well as eliminate any tech that would require macros or introduce unwanted wrist pain from performing them.

If you are a casual player, you will not notice these changes other than the buffs to Crampons jumping.
Climbing
• Increased the reach force very slightly on the first reach.
Ice Axes
• Removed the ability to abuse swapping between hands and ice axes to gain extreme vertical force.
  • Force is only gained from ice axes when leaving the ground
  • Strike force will be significantly lowered when swapping too frequently between hands and ice axes. This will reset when your momentum goes downward, or when you grab on / latch on with ice axes.
  • Slightly increased the strike force.
Crampons
• Crampon jumps are back to 3.
Since pickswapping and quick-grab techniques are now out of the game, it opens up the possibility of other routes and using crampons for more experimentation. Previously this was too overpowered when combined with the pick-swapping and quick-grab techniques.
  • The force given by crampon jumps should feel more consistent across the board.
  • The first two crampon jumps are the strongest, the third is slightly diminished, and consecutive jumps are much more diminished - signified by failed crampons sound. The jumps will give a little more force if you are falling, allowing you to save yourself from a nasty fall.
Quick-grab Crampon Limitation
• If you are holding onto a rock for too short a duration and are going too fast, the crampon jump will fail immediately. This prevents abuse from quick-grab tech that existed in previous patch. You'll need to hold a rock for at least 0.2 seconds in order to be able to perform fully functioning crampon jumps.
  • The failed crampon limitation from quick-grabs will reset as soon as you grab a hold for longer than 0.2 seconds, or if your momentum slow or moving downwards.
  • This limitation does not apply when using ice axes.

These updates should bring back balancing to the overall game, as well as open up more experimentation with routing without having to destroy your wrist learning techniques that would otherwise destroy any other movement techniques on any given map.
Other
• You can now skip dialogue with stationary NPCs on peaks using "Interact".
Bugfixes
• Fixed a bug where you could get more than intended crampon jumps from the ground.
  • Fixed a bug where you could set a score on Sundered Sons and Cromlech before the summit.
  • Fixed a bug with item collection.
  • Fixed a few bugs with chalk.
  • Fixed a visual bug with crampons in Free Solo mode.
  • Slightly modified Sundered Sons.
  • Fixed a bug where you could launch yourself using ropes and slopers.
  • Other minor bugfixes.

With these changes more set in stone, hopefully I can spend more time focusing directly on DLC and other content for the foreseeable future.
Patch 1.5.4a
• When using time attack on Solemn Tempest, time, ropes used and holds made will be recorded when quitting using the bivouac, allowing you to continue the time trial run when you next load into the bivouac. Note that ropes placed previously before quitting in the bivouac will not be saved for the next run.
  • Fixed a bug with gold items.
