v0.40.0: Leaderboards, an Intro with Voice Acting and more Polish!

[h2]Hi guys![/h2][p]Three months have passed since the last feature update, but it's not due to laziness: I created a totally new trailer and completely overhauled the Steam page, including its descriptions, GIFs, and capsule art. Keep in mind the capsule art is still a work-in-progress: the final version is being drawn by an artist right now![/p][p]While these were the most important tasks for making progress, I couldn't help myself. When I felt burnt out from producing the aforementioned marketing materials, I went on a few different tangents and worked on some completely low-priority tasks which resulted in version 0.40.0. ^^[/p][h2]Intro Video[/h2][p]I wrote a quick script, hired a voice actor and a musician, and created a 1-minute intro that now plays when you start a new game.[/p][h2]Leaderboards[/h2][p]I implemented an offline highscore system, and then I thought it might not be a big task to make it display online scores as well. Spoiler: it was.[/p][p]But now you can compare your runs locally, with your friends, and globally![/p][h2]"3D" Cards[/h2][p]Along with many smaller polishes and fixes—like overhauling the island bonus display on the population panel—I decided I wanted to make my cards feel 3D. How big of a task could that be? Turns out, it's not that trivial, but I succeeded in the end, and the cards now have backs! :)[/p][h2]Credits[/h2][p]I implemented a quick credits scene. It's not final, of course, but it was fun to work on. I also added a section for playtesters, which, as I mentioned before, will be filled with the 50-100 players who provided the most helpful feedback during development.[/p][p][/p][p]The next late December/early January update will hopefully have some longwaited features: a unique final level for the currently available world map and some meta progression![/p][p]Once again, thanks for sticking around, and let me know what do you think about the new Steam page and features.
