DevLog 16 - Obelisk in Action and New Weapon Reveal

Hello, Cultists!

It's Byte Barrel again with a brand-new DevLog! The second major update is getting closer and closer, and we're sure you're feeling it too with every piece of content we publish. The title of this article has already hinted at today's topic, but before we dive into discussing tools of destruction, we'd like to share some exciting news!

Okay, here it is! The Second Content Update for Forgive Me Father 2 is going live on September 16!

With that out of the way, let’s move on to the weapons. We’re absolutely floored by the positive reception of Obelisk’s animations we showcased some time ago, so we’ve decided to not only provide more details about this gun, but also share a short video demonstrating this mighty weapon in action.

As some of you may have guessed from the GIF we included in DevLog 13, Obelisk is an eldritch railgun-type weapon, ready to eradicate your opponents in an instant. Without a doubt it’s one of the most powerful guns in Forgive Me Father 2 so far. Its immense firepower allows you to obliterate most targets with a single shot, but also pierce through groups of enemies who are unfortunate enough (for them of course) to line up.

Here’s a short description of this weapon:

“Channeling the power of the cosmos through your enemies!

Shoots a perfectly accurate, piercing beam of instant death that only the toughest of foes can survive! This one is an easy grab, though its elaborate "reloading" procedure is not for the faint of heart.”

Someone wise once said that with great power comes a great reloading time, but we made sure it catches your eye in every frame of the animation. And speaking of great power, here’s the Obelisk in action:

With still a little time left before the update’s release, there are still matters of great importance that should remain hidden – for a while longer, at least.

But don’t you worry! The Great Old Ones have allowed us to share a few juicy details with you. The second weapon coming to Forgive Me Father 2 with this update will fill a spot in the exotic category alongside the Obelisk. Is eternal evil ready for that amount of power? I guess we’ll find out pretty soon! Meanwhile, take a closer look at the weapon itself.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading and make sure to get yourself a copy of Forgive Me Father 2 if you haven't done so already, and if you did, leaving a review of it here on Steam would be really nice! And don’t forget to drop by our Discord to chat with us and other players!

Until next time,

DevLog 15 - New Enemies Are Joining Forces of Eternal Evil

Hello again, Cultists!

It’s Byte Barrel with another DevLog from the development of Forgive Me Father 2. Since we first introduced content from the second major update, we've already showcased a new level and weapon in previous pieces. However, there are still more secrets waiting to be unraveled. One of these is the deadly foes you’ll face in the upcoming content update. As we promised in the latest version of the roadmap, two new enemies will be joining the forces of eternal evil soon. So, let’s meet them!

The first opponent we’d like to introduce has a rather bouncy nature. These small, incredibly fast monsters often fight in packs. The key to surviving an attack from hordes of these creatures is to stay calm and avoid getting overwhelmed. Otherwise, be prepared to literally get leaped to death.

But no matter how high these enemies jump, they still won’t be flying, right? That’s where the second new enemy comes in – or rather, flies in… Everyone, meet the first airborne enemy joining Forgive Me Father 2, bringing death from above. In addition to flying around, making the annoying noises that eldritch insects are known for, and constantly shooting at players, they have a rather explosive surprise in store for you when they’re killed.

That’s not all when it comes to enemies. We have also revisited previously released levels and expanded the roster of opponents there. Starting with the new flying enemies, we wanted to introduce them earlier in the game to teach players how to deal with them effectively from the beginning of their journey through this malevolent world. We have also made many encounters more diverse and engaging by adding enemies that were not featured in certain levels previously. So even if you have already finished levels from early access, you can always replay them from the Asylum and check out the changes we have made after the Second Content Update goes live.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading and make sure to get yourself a copy of Forgive Me Father 2 if you haven't done it already, and if you did, leaving a review of it here on Steam would be really nice! And don’t forget to drop by our Discord to chat with us and other players!

Until next time,

DevLog 13 - A Closer Look at a New Level and Something Extra

Hello fellow Cultists!

It’s Byte Barrel here with a brand-new DevLog! In the latest piece we teased an enigmatic screenshot of an upcoming level; and today, we’re here to tell you more about this place, from the name reveal to atmosphere and inspirations behind it. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Beautiful and extremely deadly!

First of the two levels you will visit in our second content update is called "Botanic Garden". It’s home to a variety of flora, from colorful flowers to majestic trees, and many types of fungi including some truly enormous ones. Some of these intriguing species are on the brink of extinction, and their last specimens can only be found in this botanical garden. But don’t let appearances fool you. This very green and very beautiful place that looks like a peaceful oasis is, in fact, far from that. Bear in mind that your journey to this eye-catching place will not be a bed of roses, as this botanical garden has been invaded by a species that is, unfortunately, far from extinction and very difficult to eradicate – an ancient evil.

Inspirations Behind This Place

One of the main inspirations behind the Botanic Garden was The Crystal Palace, an iconic 19th-century glass and iron structure in London, designed for the 1851 Great Exhibition. Renowned for its architectural innovation, it tragically burned down in 1936. In addition, we drew local inspiration straight from the beautiful city of Gdańsk, where our studio is based. The impressive steel framework found in the interior of Hala Targowa served as the skeleton for the Botanic Garden, creating a multi-story structure that players navigate through, eradicating eldritch horrors while fighting for survival.

Since we have the basics and inspiration behind the level covered, let’s take a proper look at this place. Here are a few screenshots presenting the visuals of this gloomy, dark botanic garden.

Something Extra!

In the first DevLog dedicated to the Second Content Update, we showed you a fragment of an enigmatic object and asked you what you thought it could be. Some of you were pretty close with your guesses and it’s finally time to unveil the mystery.

It's a new weapon called Obelisk, the first variant to fill a spot in the exotic category. This powerful tool of destruction will be obtainable as a pickup, similar to the first weapon from each type that players unlock during their journey through this malevolent world.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading and make sure to get yourself a copy of Forgive Me Father 2 if you haven't done so already, and if you did, leaving a review of it here on Steam would be really nice! And don’t forget to drop by our Discord to chat with us and other players!

Until next time,
