Scandinavia Refresh: Copenhagen

[p]Velkommen til København! Today, we’re taking a closer look at Denmark’s capital city, which has been worked on as part of our ongoing Scandinavia Refresh project for Euro Truck Simulator 2. So what changes can you expect to see? Let’s dive in!

First and foremost, Copenhagen has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, offering players a fresh driving experience through one of Scandinavia’s most iconic cities. This has by no means been a small feat, "The city of Copenhagen was my biggest project since I started working for SCS." Albert B., one of our Map Designers tells us.

Serving as the gateway to Scandinavia, Copenhagen’s location and the Øresund Tunnel serve as a vital link to Malmö and the wider Scandinavian Peninsula. “I tried to create the illusion of scale and distance" Albert tells us, "so when you drive by the tunnel or follow the coast in Copenhagen, you can actually spot Malmö on the horizon.”
[/p][p]
But Copenhagen has even more layers to explore. “It’s a very modern and yet very historical city, and I did my best to show both sides,” says Albert. From winding through lively districts to passing stunning landmarks, players will notice how history and modern life come together on the road network itself. “The city is very modern even in its road network, which plays an especially important role in our game. Almost everywhere you drive, you can find a bike path leading there, it doesn’t matter if it’s the city centre or a faraway industrial depot."

In the heart of the city, drivers will be surprised to find an amusement park where a main square might usually be expected. What's even more surprising is that the Rework of Copenhagen will feature two fully animated rides. It’s the perfect spot to grab a unique screenshot of your truck. We really have to give a shoutout to our Assets and Animation departments for bringing these rides to life!

Just a short drive away, you’ll find the Copenhagen City Hall, the Christiansborg Palace and the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Art Museum. All of these unique Landmark locations have been recreated in detail by our talented teams, so don't miss out on seeing them!
[/p][p]
Copenhagen is also home to some truly unique architecture. The striking twin residential towers located near a challenging underground depot will surely catch your eye; but that's not all. Copenhagen is also home to one of the most innovative waste management plants, which is not only sleek and modern, but also doubles as a ski slope which overlooks the sea.

Yes, you read that correctly! If you choose to purchase your garage here, you’ll be located right in front of this one-of-a-kind landmark, just don't get any crazy ideas!

On your travels in the city, you’ll also be able to spot the Danish Architectural Centre, which is described as an international cultural attraction for those who want to experience and understand how architecture and design create a framework for our lives.

However, don't get too distracted by sightseeing, as there is plenty of work to be done! Copenhagen will feature a variety of depots, including an oil storage facility built on its own man-made island with sweeping views back towards the city, a food processing plant, logistics centres, recycling facilities, an underground depot and even access to the cargo section of the Airport. Copenhagen is filled with opportunities for truckers to discover and take on.

“I hope players can fall in love with this city just like I did,” Albert concludes. “It has been an honour to work on such a stunning place”.

Excited to visit? We look forward to keeping you updated on the development of this project, along with sharing more screenshots and insights into the work taking place. Until next time, safe travels, and bliv ved med at køre lastbil!

Iceland: Ring Road

[p]When creating the upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2, one road immediately stood out as absolutely essential - Route 1, also known as the Ring Road. This main road circles the entire island and serves as the backbone of Iceland’s transport network. For players, it will become the main route for most journeys, whether you are delivering cargo across the country or simply exploring.[/p][p][/p][p]Driving along Route 1 offers a chance to experience some of Iceland’s most iconic sights. From the roadside, you can get a glimpse of the spectacular Seljalandsfoss waterfall, pass through the coastal village of Vík, admire the icy beauty of Jökulsárlón lagoon, wind your way through the dramatic Eastern Fjords, and continue past the volcanic landscapes surrounding Lake Mývatn. Countless rivers, lakes, and valleys accompany the journey, ensuring every stretch of the road has something unique to offer. This is just a short list of the cities and landmarks you will encounter along the way![/p][p][/p][p]The Ring Road is not just about scenery, however. With its many bridges and even an undersea tunnel, it showcases Iceland’s infrastructure and the challenges of connecting distant communities across difficult terrain.[/p][p][/p][p]While detours and regional roads will certainly play their part, particularly in the south-west, the Ring Road remains the essential artery for travelling longer distances. It is the heart of almost every adventure you will take in Iceland.[/p][p][/p][p]This DLC is still in development, and we look forward to sharing more about it in the future. By now, don't forget to support us by adding the Iceland DLC to your Steam wishlist. Also, remember to give our X/TwitterInstagramFacebookBluesky, and TikTok a follow or subscribe to our newsletter, so you'll receive all of the updates about our games! Until next time, keep on trucking. [/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

Nordic Horizons: Kiruna's 113-Year-Old Wooden Church

[p]A few weeks ago, we shared a blog post about Kiruna, a city in northern Sweden that is being recreated in the upcoming Nordic Horizons DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Since then, we've learnt some fascinating news: Kiruna's 113-year-old wooden church was relocated due to the nearby underground mine. We thought this incredible real-world move deserved a closer look - so today we're bringing you the story behind this remarkable transportation and how we quickly decided to reflect it in the game as well![/p][p][/p][p]Kiruna is known, among many other things, as the home of the world's largest underground iron ore mine. As we mentioned before, this massive site will appear as a depot in the upcoming map expansion - our very first underground depot in ETS2. [/p][p][/p][p]However, the mine's ongoing expansion has put parts of the city at risk, including its most iconic landmark: the wooden church built between 1909 and 1912, once voted Sweden's most beautiful building. To preserve the town's heritage, a new city center was constructed, featuring the carefully restored and relocated historic clock tower. The next step was even more ambitious - moving the 672-tonne church.[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]After months of preparation and safety testing, the church was relocated in August by the Dutch logistics company Mammoet. In its entirety, it traveled roughly five kilometers on steel beams carried by two trains of 28-axle Self-Propelled Modular Transporters, over the course of two days. At nearly 40 meters wide, the move was an extraordinary feat of engineering, requiring even the roads to be widened in advance. Thanks to meticulous planning, the church reached its new home successfully.[/p][p][/p][p]We couldn't overlook such an incredible achievement and knew it had to be represented in-game. Our research team gathered visual plans of the new site, allowing us to prototype the area and the church's placement. From there, our talented assets team built the model, and our map designers updated the city of Kiruna with its newly relocated landmark. The whole process took about seven days, bringing this historic move into Euro Truck Simulator 2.[/p][p][/p][p]We're happy that we were able to relocate the church in time for the upcoming map expansion, allowing it to shine in its new home within the game as well![/p][p]If you are looking forward to exploring Kiruna yourself, make sure to add the Nordic Horizons map expansion to your Steam Wishlist! Stay tuned for more updates from this map expansion by following us on TwitterFacebookInstagramBluesky, and YouTube, or by signing up for our newsletter. Until next time, we will see you on the road![/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

Coaches: Scania Touring

[p]We're incredibly excited to share another update on our ongoing work on the Coaches project for Euro Truck Simulator 2. In our previous post, we shared a broad overview of what this project is all about. Today, we’d like to shine a spotlight on one of the first vehicles we’re working on for this DLC: the Scania Touring.[/p][p][/p][p]The Scania Touring is a long-distance coach designed for comfort, safety, and efficiency. First introduced in 2009, it has become a popular choice for operators across Europe and beyond. Depending on its configuration, this model can carry up to 50 passengers, making it a reliable companion for longer journeys. Known for its sleek, modern design and strong reputation in the industry, the Touring continues Scania’s tradition of producing high-quality, dependable vehicles for passenger transport.[/p][p][/p][p]Our team is working hard on recreating this coach in the game. From its distinctive exterior design to the carefully considered interior, we’re putting a lot of effort into ensuring that the Scania Touring is brought to life with great attention to detail. As always, this process involves a lot of collaboration between our vehicle artists, designers, and programmers, who are working together to deliver a model that meets our quality standards.[/p][p][/p][p]Of course, the work is ongoing, and what you see here today is still a work in progress. We’re excited to be able to share these early previews with you and to give you a first taste of what’s to come.[/p][p][/p][p]This is just one of several coaches that will eventually be part of the Coaches DLC, and we can’t wait to show you more in the future as development continues.[/p][p]We hope you are as excited as we are for the upcoming Coaches DLC as the development continues! For the latest updates, be sure to follow us on our social media channels on X/TwitterInstagramFacebookBluesky, and TikTok, or sign up for our newsletter. If you're looking forward to hitting the road in style, don’t forget to add the Coaches DLC to your Steam Wishlist!
