Coaches: Meet the Team

[p]A few weeks back, we officially announced that our teams are already working on the Coaches expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Before we are ready to share more with you from this upcoming DLC, we would like you to meet the team behind it![/p][p][/p][p]The team consists of eight people, with some other members of our company contributing from time to time as well, from programmers, game designers, and 3D graphic designers, to testers. Let's meet them![/p][p][/p]
Dominik - Producer
[p][/p][p]"You may know me from Nordic Horizons - Meet The Team, where I wrote about my history in SCS and my current role. While working on Nordic Horizons, I started dedicating one day a week to the Coaches side-project, which had been running for a long time but had no production coverage. Gradually, I managed to build a team, collaborated to get licenses, and the small side-project became almost a full-time job. Even though it doesn't seem like it, the knowledge from running a map DLC is very useful now, because even in the Coaches project, there is a lot of map work; modified bus stations, bus stops, and border crossings. I'm very happy that an excellent, dedicated team has been assembled and that this project is moving forward at the speed it deserves." [/p][p][/p]
Petr - Senior Tester
[p][/p][p]"When I started out as a bus driver, I never imagined that one day I would be testing buses for a computer game. As someone who has spent years behind the wheel of real buses, I know how an automatic transmission should behave, what a vehicle does under hard braking, or what a hill start looks like with a fully loaded machine. And it's this experience that I try to bring into testing to make the bus driving in ETS2 as close to reality as possible. But testing is also about checking all the functional details. Whether it's the behaviour of the vehicles, the controls, the sounds, or the graphical details. This connects my real world with the virtual one and gives me the opportunity to contribute to making the bus experience as authentic as possible for players around the world."[/p][p][/p]
Josef - Junior Researcher for Game Development
[p][/p][p]"I have been working in the Research & Game Development department at SCS for a year and a quarter, and from the very beginning, I started participating in the Coaches project. For my colleagues, I prepare materials and references, for example, for building real-life bus terminals in our game, and I have also worked on redesigning those we already have in the game. Since I spent a lot of time playing our studio’s older game, "Bus Driver," I am really looking forward to the coaches in ETS2."[/p][p][/p]
Marek - Senior Programmer
[p][/p][p]"I've been working as a programmer at SCS Software for nearly 12 years. My journey began with developing our map editor and various internal tools, supporting the core of our game development process. Over time, I transitioned into working on gameplay features, which allowed me to directly contribute to what players experience behind the wheel. Now, I'm excited to be part of something entirely new - bringing coaches into the game. This addition opens up fresh possibilities for gameplay, and I'm really happy to have the opportunity to help shape this new direction. Looking forward to seeing how players enjoy the new challenges coaches will bring."[/p][p][/p]
Vitalii - Senior 3D Graphic Designer - Vehicles
[p][/p][p]"I started working at SCS almost 6 years ago, joining the Road Department as a 3D Artist. After two years, I transferred to the Vehicle team. I began by modeling AI vehicles, then worked on cargo, and gradually moved on to helping with trucks. Currently, I'm a Senior Vehicle Artist focusing on coaches. This is the first project where I'm not just helping out, but actually planning and executing both the exterior and interior myself, from start to finish. It's been a great challenge, and I'm working alongside an amazing team of specialists. I really hope you'll enjoy our upcoming DLC once it's ready."[/p][p][/p]
Vladimír - 3D Graphic Designer - Vehicles
[p][/p][p]"I started working at SCS as a 3D graphic designer almost three years ago, in the outsourcing department, where I was responsible for the quality of 3D assets for map DLCs. About a year ago, I fulfilled my dream and joined the vehicles department. The first project within my new position was the MAN Lion's Coach model. I am very excited about this new direction of our game and the actual model I am working on. I hope the players will enjoy this DLC, and I am already looking forward to their first reactions."[/p][p][/p]
Vojta - Game Designer
[p][/p][p]"My career started by teaching how to make games. Then, I began trying to create them in the evenings. After many evenings spent this way and several broken teams, I came to terms with the fact that I'd be working on someone else's games. I never expected to find such a wonderful company culture at SCS, nor a company so open to finding the best possible place for its talents. My suggestions were heard. So, I came up with new game features for the map, proposed innovations for our map editor, designed new gameplay features, significantly contributed to Driving Academy, and created UX and UI design features. Now, I have the opportunity to contribute to a "game within the game" - I'm designing game mechanics, UX, and UI for the coaches. We have great freedom, limited only by the constraints of our game itself, and once again, it's all very fresh and exciting." [/p][p][/p][p]We hope you liked the insight view of the team that is currently working on this expansion for ETS2. Don't forget to add the Coaches DLC to your Steam wishlist to show this team your excitement! Nordic Horizons: Kristiansund

[p]On the western coast of Norway, you will find the city of Kristiansund. Let's take a look at how our map designers are recreating this beautiful town for the upcoming Nordic Horizons map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2![/p][p][/p][p]The landscape of this city is really unique as it is situated on four different islands, which makes it stand out. While it is not one of the largest metropolitan hubs in Scandinavia, with over 24,000 citizens, it has a lot to offer and should not be missed.[/p][p][/p][p]Let's start with a bit of trivia. Kristiansund isn't just a feast for the eyes - it's also a hotspot for food lovers. The city's history is deeply tied to the sea, particularly through the production of klippfisk - split, salted cod traditionally dried on coastal rocks. This iconic dish is so important to the region that it has its own museum and even an annual festival in Kristiansund. But the culinary delights don't stop there - the city also boasts some award-winning cheeses, including a blue cheese that's been crowned the best in the world![/p][p][/p][p]Now, back to what you can expect while hauling cargo through the area.  As the city is located on an island, you can get there either from the west through the Atlanterhavstunnelen (Atlantic Ocean Tunnel), which is part of the Norwegian County Road 64, or from the south via the Omsundbrua (Omsund Bridge).[/p][p][/p][p]When in Kristiansund, keep an eye out for the Kirkelandet Church, widely regarded as Norway's first truly modern church. Consecrated in 1964, it's often hailed as the country's most daring piece of church architecture. Naturally, our map and asset teams made sure to include this striking structure. The city is also full of colorful houses, typical of Scandinavian architecture.[/p][p][/p][p]Regarding industries, there will be a number of depots that truckers can deliver cargo to or from, such as a car dealer, a warehouse, a waste transfer station, and the local airport, also faithfully recreated to represent its real-world counterpart.[/p][p][/p][p]If you liked this preview, make sure to add this map expansion to your Steam Wishlist! Stay tuned for more updates from this map expansion by following us on TwitterFacebookInstagramBluesky, and YouTube, or by signing up for our newsletter. Safe travels![/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

Euro Truck Simulator 2: 1.55 Update Release

[p]We are excited to share with you that the 1.55 Update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is now released and available on Steam! Let's take a look at all the features you will encounter in this update.[/p][p][/p][p]First of all, we would like to thank everyone in our #BestCommunityEver who took part in the Open Beta phase and helped us by reporting bugs on our forums. It really made it much easier for us to fine-tune the update and make it ready for the full release. [/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][p]Driving Academy - Truck Driving Proficiency [/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]This new Driving Academy module, called Truck Driving Proficiency, will introduce a set of much more challenging scenarios, which will test even the most skilled drivers to the limit. For this new module and set of scenarios, we will also introduce a new reward system. The most important thing is still to precisely complete a scenario by driving along the designated path and avoiding any collisions. [/p][p][/p][p]Players will also be able to achieve up to 3 collectable stars in this module, which can be earned by meeting additional conditions such as only using the interior camera, limiting gear shifts between drive and reverse, or completing the scenario in the set time. To really test your skills, you won't find any pre-recorded video tutorials, and you will have to use all the knowledge we taught you in our first module of Driving Academy. [/p][p][/p][p]We've also prepared new, exciting rewards that players can use on the same profile in the base game! As you may know, finishing the first module grants a blue traffic cone cabin accessory and a customizable Driving Academy truck paint job. Completing all Truck Driving Proficiency scenarios unlocks an orange traffic cone accessory, while earning 3 stars in every scenario adds a matching trailer paint job and a golden traffic cone, giving your truck and trailer the full Driving Academy look.[/p][p][/p][p]Asynchronous Loading[/p][p]We have been hard at work implementing a major overhaul in the way our game loads and processes data, a new system we call Asynchronous Loading. This system is designed to improve the loading process by ensuring that the game and loading screens remain uninterrupted while assets are loaded in the background. The primary benefit here is the mitigation of stuttering, resulting in a smoother experience overall. [/p][p]We'd like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who shared their feedback during both the Experimental and Open Beta phases. Your input played a key role in helping us refine this system, and we're excited to share that Asynchronous Loading is now fully implemented with the release of the 1.55 update! [/p][p][/p][p]FH Tuning Pack DLC Update[/p][p]The FH Tuning Pack DLC will now be fully compatible with the Volvo FH Series 6 as well, so you'll be able to customize every Volvo FH truck with a wide range of tuning parts. But that's not all, as we are also improving several current components, introducing new customization options, along with paintable parts. [/p][p][/p][p]You will be able to pick the front badge plate, rear fender top, front mask, and front grille bottom in chrome, while the decal, windshield frame, front badge plate, rear fender, rear fender top, and more are now paintable! [/p][p][/p][p]Custom City Intros for the Vive la France ! DLC [/p][p]We have reworked all of the in-game intros for every city in France with an ownable garage, both in the base game and the Vive la France ! DLC. A total of 21 cities have received new or updated Custom City Intros.[/p][p][/p][p]Mail UX Redesign [/p][p]The mail screen has been reworked to provide a cleaner layout and a smoother navigation experience. Messages are now displayed in a two-column format, with a scrollable list on the left and an enlarged message view on the right for better readability. Messages load from the top, and when the list gets longer, intuitive paging helps keep things tidy. Navigation has been improved across all input methods, and embedded links or actions can now be accessed directly from the message content.[/p][p][/p][p]Options QoL Improvements [/p][p]In this update, we've added a small but useful quality-of-life improvement to the graphics settings menu. You'll now see example screenshots next to various settings, giving you a better idea of how each option affects the game's visuals. Whether you're tweaking things for smoother performance or aiming for the best possible look, these previews should make it easier to find the right balance for your setup. [/p][p][/p][p]Map Improvements - "My Location" Hotkey[/p][p]We are adding a "My Location" hotkey as part of our map improvements. When pressed, it instantly centers the game map on the player's current location. We hope you find this small addition useful on the road! [/p][p][/p][p]Change of Steam Achievements[/p][p]Our team is working around the clock on engine updates, many of which are not visible during regular gameplay. Some of these are visible instantly, such as new light systems, but we also need to work on changes that are not normally visible when you play. Updating the achievement system gives us foundations that will allow us to make different and new types of achievements, as well as manage existing ones that often rely on different DLCs and regions. As a part of that, we have a new system coming out in 1.55. Along with this new system, some small changes were made to existing achievements and their goals to prepare us for any changes future developments may bring. If you would like to share any feedback about this, you can do so on our forums. [/p][p][/p][p]Changelog Gameplay[/p]

SCS On The Road: Volvo Experience Center Vlog

[p]We're headed to the Home of Volvo! In our latest episode of our SCS On The Road series, we journey to Gothenburg, Sweden, to visit the impressive Volvo Experience Centre, and get hands-on with three iconic trucks from Volvo's modern lineup.

[/p][p]Join Oscar, our Director of Global Partnerships, along with members of the SCS Vehicle and Sound Teams, as they set out from our offices in Prague, Czechia, to Sweden. There, they had the opportunity to get up close, and even behind the wheel, of the Volvo FH Electric, Volvo FH16 780, and Volvo FH I-Save, capturing everything from detailed photographic references to sound recordings for use in our projects. We hope this episode offers an engaging behind-the-scenes look at how our team works to faithfully recreate these mighty machines in-game.
[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]
The team were also invited to explore the newly opened World of Volvo, a museum and experience space celebrating both Volvo Cars and Volvo Trucks. If you’d like a closer look at that visit, don’t miss our dedicated SCS On The Road: World of Volvo episode, which we released a little while ago.

We’d like to thank our friends at Volvo for their warm hospitality and support during this visit. Be sure to check out the full video below, and don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe if you've enjoyed our SCS On The Road series! Until next time, keep on truckin’![/p]

Scandinavia Refresh: Aarhus

[p]As part of the Project Scandinavia Refresh for Euro Truck Simulator 2, we’re excited to introduce a brand-new addition to the map: the city of Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city! Our talented teams have been hard at work bringing this fresh location to life, and today we're happy to share a look at their progress.

Known as the City of Smiles, Aarhus will be accessible to drivers travelling along the E45 motorway, with two major highway junctions leading into the city. Aarhus itself features a blend of modern infrastructure and thriving industry, making it a must-visit destination for truckers!

One of the major landmarks in our recreation of Aarhus is Dokk1, a striking multi-purpose library and cultural hub located on the harborfront. It is the largest public library in Scandinavia and was named Public Library of the Year in 2016. Nearby, you’ll also spot the Havnearbejdernes Klub Århus, a historic waterfront building that once served as a social space for dock workers.

An industry we couldn’t leave out is the Port of Aarhus, Denmark’s largest container port, responsible for handling more than 50% of the country’s container traffic. Consistently ranked among the most productive container terminals in Europe for crane moves per hour and overall berth efficiency, it plays a vital role in national logistics and supports a strong local economy. We're sure drivers will find plenty of job offers here!

Surrounding the port are numerous industrial sites, large and small, including a chemical factory, which players will be able to deliver to and from. Be sure to brush up on your ADR skills before heading in!

Our team has also included several cultural and architectural highlights to give the city a distinct identity. Drivers can come across sculptures such as “Historiske Spor” by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt, as well as two unique art murals that bring a splash of local character to the streets. While exploring, you might also catch glimpses of other distant landmarks such as the International Student Centre, Domen Aarhus, Aarhus City Hall (with its tower visible on the skyline), and even the spire of Aarhus Cathedral.

In the heart of the city, players will also find the Aarhus Bus Station. This central hub has been carefully recreated with attention to detail and will eventually play a role in the recently announced 'Project Coaches' module. Whether you're delivering goods or preparing to transport passengers, Aarhus should have something for everyone!

We’re happy to bring this much-requested addition to the Scandinavia DLC as part of the ongoing refresh project, and we look forward to sharing more from this development in the future. We always appreciate your support and feedback and until next time, keep on truckin’!
