Dev Log 3: Expanding Vehicle Gameplay (11/20/2023)

Hello everyone! We are very excited to share with you our latest development log today.

In our last dev log, we addressed some frequently asked questions from our community. Since then, we have added the Warhammer Mobile Base, craftable skins, and have FOV and gamma options to the game. We are still hard at work implementing all of the features we have promised in our roadmap.

Since the launch of our Early Access version, players have used vehicles such as tanks and helicopters to attack each other’s bases and Imperial Army strongholds, experiencing all of the fun and exciting vehicular gameplay that The Front has to offer. During this process, we have been collecting feedback on the vehicles in the game. For instance, players have raised issues including the limitations of the vehicles, their lack of utility when raiding enemy bases, and their sameness in feel and appearance. This feedback has let us know how much potential has yet to be realized.

In this dev log, we would like to tell you more about the general development plan for expanded vehicle gameplay. We also invite you to leave comments, which will help us make further improvements.

Our initial plan is to add a vehicle assembly and forging factory (final named TBD), where players can use a variety of vehicle parts to assemble the vehicle of their choice. Later, these players will also be able to modify the vehicle by replacing and adjusting parts, and also give their vehicle a custom name, making vehicle gameplay more varied and interesting.

To this end, we are planning 6 major categories of vehicle parts, including chassis/fuselages, engines, mobility, armor, weapons, and auxiliary parts. These will provide a variety of different attributes to a vehicle. For instance, engine parts will boost max speeds and fuel consumption, and mobility parts will increase load limits. Our current plan is to implement part upgrading, forging, and reverse crafting. These three actions will give you power over the attributes of your vehicles.

We would also like to note that additional new content, new features, and more adjustments and optimizations are still in the works, as well. In order to ensure that these new vehicle features do not affect the previously established roadmap, we plan to complete work on them in two phases: in the first phase, will we complete development of basic functions and attribute values, which is expected to take 1-2 months; in the second phase, we will work on vehicle appearance changes that will take effect when players assemble and modify vehicles.
