Warframe preps for Heart of Deimos with - oh God no

Warframe's next major expansion, Heart of Deimos, is scheduled to launch later this month. For now, the game's gotten an update to preview what's coming and - oh no. I already regret putting that image in above. You can now look at the Helminth in greater detail if you enjoy nightmares, but the update also includes a notable shift to Orokin Derelicts and a nog change to the end-of-mission UI.

The Helminth Infirmary has gotten a visual upgrade for far more upsettingly oral, fleshy imagery. You'll still need a Cyst or the Nidus frame to enter the infirmary but, well, now there's a giant, nasty mouth to gape at. What... fun?

The Orokin Derelicts have moved as part of this update. You'll now find the nodes in orbit around Mars, and there they'll no longer require keys. You'll get back the credit and resource costs for any keys in your inventory. Once the Heart of Deimos release date hits, the derelict nodes will be rolled into Deimos. You'll still be able to get the appropriate Steel Path rewards by completing Deimos.

Warframe Xaku abilities guide

What are the new Warframe Xaku abilities? The next big content update for one of the best MMO games Warframe is near its release date. Heart of Deimos takes players to the new planetoid of Deimos, where we'll be able to battle hordes of the infested on its ravaged landscape. One of the tools we'll acquire to help us through the coming conflict is a new Warframe, Xaku.

Xaku is odd, even when compared to the rest of the cast. Xaku isn't one frame, rather it's three separate warframes held together by the power of the void, and they make use of abilities each warframe provides. Xaku will arrive with three other new warframes in 2020 as part of a line-up of new content coming to Warframe. Players will also be able to pilot undead mechs in Warframe and recycle old warframes to expand on customisation.

There's plenty coming to the Heart of Deimos update and while we don't know everything about this new warframe, we do know the Xaku abilities we'll get to play around with.

Warfame sets another new Steam player and Twitch viewer record for TennoCon

Warframe's big annual fan convention still managed to convene a lot of fans, despite the fact that it was all-digital this year. TennoCon brought the reveal of the Heart of Deimos and several other big Warframe additions, and might just have set the standard for game reveal events moving forward. It also set new records for Warframe on both Twitch and Steam.

On August 1, Warframe hit a peak concurrent player record of 155,004, as SteamDB shows - not counting the players on console or the standalone PC launcher. That's up from the previous record, set during TennoCon 2018, of 132,201 concurrent players. We know Warframe hit a total of 50 million players back in March 2019, but we haven't gotten an updated total figure since then.

TennoCon also brought in a record number Twitch viewers for the game - 433,476 at the peak, up from 419,497 at TennoCon 2019, and 407,693 at TennoCon 2018, as TwitchTracker shows. In a press release, Digital Extremes says that TennoCon 2020 brought in a total of 2.44 million hours watched, between Twitch and broadcasts on Steam.

Warframe's in-game TennoCon 2020 is the future of reveal events

This past weekend Tennocon, Warframe developer Digital Extremes' enormous annual event, moved online for the first time. It's normally a huge in-person jamboree, with over 2,000 of the game's fans - aka Framers or Tenno - attending last year's event in London, Ontario, where Digital Extremes is based.

It's the highlight of the Warframe calendar, packed with epic reveals about forthcoming game content, loads of fan service, and events throughout the day that make some of us a little over-giddy. Warframe's community consists of not only ardent gamers, but engaged cosplayers, fan fiction writers, poets, artists, and there's even a whole substrata of Hentai featuring the game's heroes getting it on. Suffice it to say, the community that Digital Extremes has served over the years is engaged and effusive.

That's quite tough to replicate online, especially when thousands look forward to the physical event as a way to share and commune with their fellow space ninjas. So I had no idea what was about to happen...
