Create a Space Uniquely Yours in Season of Nesting

Sky kids are a creative bunch, and the doors are about to open to a Season made just for that creativity. Starting on April 15th, Season of Nesting puts Sky kids front and center with a new location ready to be made into something truly special.

The Nesting Guide awaits players at the soon-to-open Nesting Workshop in Aviary Village. Head over to see the Seasonal items that can be unlocked—special display stands offer cosmetics and, especially, wood-crafted furniture and decor to use in your Nest and Shared Spaces…or perhaps in other environs for those who enjoy both interior and exterior design.

Season Pass holders will be able to unlock two Ultimate Gifts from the Nesting Guide, too: an outfit appropriate for a creative craftskid, and a special figurine that can both be used as a prop, and to switch outfits when you’re away from your closet. Pick any outfit items from your closet to display on the figurine. You can place the figurine anywhere from your Nest to your favorite realms, and Sky kids who pass by who also own the cosmetics the figurine is wearing can switch their outfits to match!

A Shared Space shrine in the workshop has also been set aside for you to set up in whatever style you want, or browse the workshop setups that other players have imagined.
Create Your Personal Nest
As for the Nesting Guide themselves, you’ll want to take on the Seasonal Quests they have for you—help them with the quests, and they’ll help you unlock your own personal Nest! This cozy spot will be yours to design however you like.

Add your favorites from the wooden seasonal furniture set to make a cozy nook, perfect for recovering from a busy day of Dark Dragon wrangling. Or perhaps you’ll make it into the perfect spot for a sculpture exhibit. Or maybe it’s where you’ll create the most chaotic jungle gym that Sky kids have ever seen outside of the Trial of Earth (hey, we don’t judge!).

Privacy settings allow you to welcome friends for a visit, too, so when you’re feeling social, throw a chill house party and show each other the designs and sculptures you’ve put together (or make them try out that chaotic jungle gym—like I said, we don’t judge).

And when you need a quieter break without all the honking, just set your Nest to private mode to watch a peaceful sunset over Aviary Village from your windows with your plants and plushies.
New Permanent Features
Players have asked for a version of Sky homes for a long time, and we wanted to bring them in with extra features that wouldn’t be limited to just one Season. So here are a couple things coming with Season of Nesting that you’ll be able to enjoy at your pace as you play the game.
Nesting Challenges
Nesting Challenges are a permanent addition to Sky and can be accessed once you start the third Seasonal Quest. There are three categories of challenges displayed on a board in the Nesting Workshop, each with their own tree. Once all challenges in a tree are completed, a unique interactive item becomes available to unlock for in-game currency.

Some challenges are focused on (appropriately enough) your Nest, while others can be done out in the realms. These are entirely separate from the Season, so they can be completed over time as you play the game in your style and on your own schedule!
Stone Furniture & Decor Set
Once the Nesting Workshop opens in Aviary Village, we’re introducing yet another permanent addition to Sky: a rotating selection of stone-made furniture and decor. We think the seasonal set of items is pretty spiffy, but having a range of options is fun too, so we wanted to make sure Sky kids had a choice of what to unlock for their Nests.

The stone furniture set contains more than 50 items, offered at the front counter of the Nesting Workshop. Since this set is a permanent addition to the game, items can be unlocked over time using a variety of in-game currency, similar to the cosmetics offered by the base game constellation Spirits.

Between this set and the seasonal items, you’re bound to find something that fits your Nest. But that said, if you eventually find yourself wanting something a little different than the items we’ve introduced in this news post…well, for now we’ll just say that this is a feature we have more plans for, so stay tuned for future updates!
A Place for You and Your Creativity
With so many new offerings to use in your Nest (and Shared Spaces, and maybe Eye of Eden picnics for the chaotically inclined), this Season offers all kinds of room for creative expression. The Nesting Guide, fellow Sky kids, and your imagination are inviting you to build something that is uniquely yours. On April 15th, take to the skies to make Season of Nesting your very own!

Celebrate Five Years of Sky at SkyFest!

We’re just a few short months away from Sky officially turning five. This is a major milestone, and one that would not be possible without the support of all of our players around the world. We knew coming into 2024 that Sky would only turn five once, and that we had to do something that lived up to the moment.

With that in mind, we’re excited to announce SkyFest, our first ever simultaneous in-person and in-game Sky Assembly event!

Sky Assemblies is an in-person fan program led by the Community Team that debuted in 2022. In the last couple of years, we both hosted and worked with volunteer hosts to run Sky Assemblies events all over the world. At those events, we’ve been able to meet players, celebrate Sky culture, and even witness friendships that were only online grow beyond the game into the real world. It’s meant a lot to us to have the sort of community that makes running events like this possible.

SkyFest is, for us, a chance to take all of this experience, as well as the experience gained from running Sky booths at AnimeJapan, Tokyo Game Show, and gamescom, and leverage it to bring players as well as many of our thatgamecompany developers together at our biggest in-person event yet!

With all that out of the way…

There will actually be two in-person SkyFest events: One in China which will be run by our partners at NetEase, and one in Tokyo, Japan, run by members of the thatgamecompany Community Management team. Below are some important details for our event in Japan:
DATE:
July 13-14 (Japan Standard Time)
LOCATION:
Sankaku Hiroba
2-6-1 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku
Tokyo, Japan
DETAILS:
This will be a ticketed event. However, we are planning to make a portion of it open to the general public so that everyone will be able to share part of the experience we're building.

If you're interested in attending the ticketed part of SkyFest, stay tuned to our Japanese social media channels, which is where we'll share detailed information in the future about how to purchase tickets. Ticketed attendees will receive special goodies—we’ll have more details on those in the weeks ahead.

There will be a number of attractions and activities. We’ll have a full list prior to the event, but here’s a short list of what’s included:
A recreation of the downtown Aviary Village area
Live developer presentations, similar to those we had at the Sky Assembly in Los Angeles last summer
A special thatskyshop pop-up shop
An opportunity to meet and the team behind The Art of Sky: Narrative Writer Jennie Kong, Visual Design Lead Yui Tanabe, and Art Director Cecil Kim
The History of Sky art exhibit
A number of exciting in-person mini-games
Themed photo spots
A special mystery announcement about something coming to Sky later this year…

That’s just a taste of what’s to come. We’ll have more information about SkyFest, as well as how to secure tickets, in the coming weeks.

We also know that, for a lot of folks, it won’t be possible to make the long trek out to either of our SkyFest events—and that's why SkyFest will also take place in the game itself. Like when we worked on the AURORA concert, we’re doing everything we can to build a celebratory, connective experience that can be enjoyed by players around the world. It’s important to us that this event meets the moment and honors five years worth of players, stories, friendships, and more.

Keep a watch on our official channels for more in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to share more, and to share Sky’s 5th birthday with all of you.

We’ll see you in the skies!

Get Ready for Sky Early Access on Steam!

First was mobile, then came consoles—and now Sky prepares to take flight on PC! On April 10th, the Sky: Children of the Light experience arrives to PC players on Steam for Early Access, and there’s going to be something that all players can celebrate.

A Celebration on Every Platform

We’re thrilled to reach this milestone with everyone! We’re bringing Sky to Early Access on Steam so that we can implement all the refinements that will make the PC experience shine. It's a big moment, so there’s going to be a little something for every platform. Things like—
Companion Cube Prop
Players on Steam PC and Steam Deck can find a special item in the Aviary event shop to commemorate their adventures: none other than a Companion Cube, which can be unlocked for 50 Candles and will be available permanently in the event shop.
A Cosmetic Pack Celebrating TGC Games
Also arriving on April 10th—the Journey Pack will be made available for all platforms. Formerly a PlayStation exclusive, this pack includes a cape and hood modeled after the iconic red outfit worn by the Journey traveler, and it comes with a mask that gives your avatar a unique Journey™-inspired voice when you wear it.

This will be in the game menu shop ($24.99) and will be continually available even after the PC launch festivities wrap up!
Double Hearts & A Treasure Candle Light Bonanza
Thanks to everyone’s awesome support to help us reach Sky wishlist milestones last year, for a week starting April 10th at 00:00 (all times PDT, UTC -7), it’s time for extra Hearts and Treasure Candles!

For those seven days until 23:59 on April 16th, every Heart gift or partial Heart gift sent to friends (and also friends who are moths) will be automatically doubled. Quick reminder, this applies only to gifts sent while Double Hearts are active, so if a gift is sent before April 10th and then picked up after Double Hearts begins, it won’t be doubled.

Meanwhile, if the realms seem to be a bit brighter the week of April 10th, it might be because they’re filled with Treasure Candles. Every day there will be four locations for Treasure Candles in each level from Daylight Prairie through Vault of Knowledge—that’s 20 Treasure Candles to gather Light from. (Maybe this should have come with a fire extinguisher prop…Just promise us that you’ll keep flammable objects at a safe distance.)
Special Traveling Spirit
In case a new batch of adorable moth friends wasn’t enough to get hyped about, may we introduce to you the winner of the Traveling Spirit Community Vote: Dancing Performer.

This Spirit—perhaps the most anticipated one this side of Valley of Triumph—won the Wishlist Campaign community vote last year pretty much in a world-wide landslide, so they’ve been busy packing their bags with outfit items, a lute, and instructions to teach Sky kids their best dance moves.

They’ll be the second Traveling Spirit to visit after the Steam Early Access launch (the first being a visit by the definitely unguessable [redacted] Spirit), so mark your calendars for Dancing Performer’s visit on the weekend of April 25th!

Get Ready!

While Sky PC is in Early Access, Steam players will be able to play the full version of the game. This special Early Access period will ensure that the full suite of Steam PC features can be implemented and made to shine!

This includes things like integrating Steam friends, Steam achievements, and support for Remote Play. It also gives us the chance to keep enhancing game graphics with HDR and VRR support, so please keep sending in your feedback as we work to make the PC experience the absolute best it can be.

So now is the perfect opportunity to get ready before it all starts on April 10th. If you’re currently a PC Demo or Beta player, note that there will be a temporary blackout period from April 1st until the 10th so that our engineers can get everything ready.

Whichever platform you’ve been playing on, use this time to prepare your welcome for all the new moths! Brush up on Spirit locations, polish your best Dark Dragon dodges, and even practice a Prophecy Trial or three if you really want top-tier guide skills. That way you’ll be all set to take these moths under your Winged Light and help them see all the surprises that Sky has to offer!

If you already have a Sky account and are planning to play on PC or Steam Deck, don’t forget to bind your current account to your Steam account first. To do that, log into Sky on a mobile device, then go to the settings menu to add your Steam account to your current Sky account. And be sure to wishlist Sky on our Steam page if you haven’t already so that you’ll be automatically notified the moment Early Access is launched!

And of course, we want to give a big THANK YOU to all the PC beta testers and demo players! Your reports and contributions these past months have been incredibly valuable for helping the team get us to where we are now. We can’t wait to welcome a new flock of players to the skies on April 10th!

Sky in 2024: A Look Ahead

2024 is getting started, and we’re very excited about what it’s going to bring to Sky. This year Sky turns five, and it’s at times hard to believe just how much the game has grown—and how the community has helped it thrive! There are so many more adventures and celebrations ahead (not to mention a PC launch!), and we’re working to bring those to life in 2024 and the years to come. Those won’t all fit in one blog post, but we thought we’d share a glimpse of the many things on the horizon—we’ll have yet more to share in the months to come.

Last year, we talked about our love of festivals, and wanting to bring those vibes to Sky with the introduction of Aviary Village. Season of Revival laid the foundation—this year is full-on building mode!

For starters, in Sky’s next Season we return to Aviary Village and add some of the things we’ve hinted at in the past. So for those of you who have daydreamed about your own living space in Sky, your dreams will soon become reality! We’re also leveling up what we refer to as Player Creations, and giving aspiring thespians of all levels more ways than ever before to express and connect. Sky is your stage, and we want to see your creativity bloom.

Speaking of blooming, three of Sky’s most memorable events will of course return in the first half of this year. Players should look forward to experiencing the transient beauty of Days of Bloom, making a difference in Days of Nature, and celebrating the mosaic of Sky’s community in Days of Color. We’re working on some surprises too, like a new type of collaboration for an event, or maybe for a Season (or maybe both??).

Not to mention, Sky has a milestone anniversary coming up. All that we can say for now: get ready for Sky’s biggest, best birthday party yet.

Another focus for 2024 is updates that make Sky feel more vibrant and interactive, whether you’re a social butterfly or a solo adventurer.

Inspired by early versions of Daily Quests, a new quest system coming this year connects you with the Spirits you’ve met on your journey, making them a more robust and deeper part of your day-to-day experience. And—to share an idea in very early WIP stages—we’re even looking to take what we’ve learned from the Season of AURORA Encore Concert to develop a feature that would let us, thatgamecompany studio staff, interact with players directly in the game!

Based on player feedback, we’ve put our heads together for features that let you connect with Sky friends even if you aren’t online at the same time, and extra ways to send and receive Hearts. For folks sharing and looking at Player Creations, our designers and engineers know that your friends’ creations are a priority for you, so we’re keeping up the work to make it easier to see cool stuff from your friends.

The year will go beyond new features or birthday parties or Seasons, though. One long-term focus for 2024 is improving the way we handle issues that impact you, from bug fixes to the way we share news about the game.

We hear the concerns you’ve shared about wanting the gameplay experience to be smoother. In the shorter term we’re doing things like restructuring our tech to better prevent server issues, and in the longer term we’ll continue to strengthen anti-hacking and player safety measures, among other things.

Also important to mention: quality of life improvements. A few examples of what we’re working on for this year:
Adjusting avatar damage mechanics, especially in Eye of Eden
Wait for it—UI changes that make it easier to find the emote you want in the expression menu
On the engineering side, increasing capacity to more easily and quickly bring fixes to all platforms and still ensure that everyone can play together on the same patch

And outside of Sky’s realms? We know you’ve wanted more insight into what’s in store for the game, so this year we’ll bring you extra news, update posts, and more to keep you better informed about what’s happening in Sky, and what’s coming down the road.

This is only a quick glance at what we have planned for the year, and of course, it’s all work-in-progress, so details for features and content will change between now and their release. Ultimately, the Sky community is what makes the game shine, and this year we want to give you ways to shine in return. There’s a whole lot more to share in the months ahead—until then, we’ll see you in the skies!
