Sky: Children of the Light News

Patch Notes - February 27, 2025 - 0.28.5 (313329 Steam)

Greetings, Adventurers! Season of Radiance brings more updates as it approaches its colorful conclusion—the final Seasonal Quests, plus an expansion to dyeable items.

An adventure comes in the shape of an event: The brand new Days of Treasure beckons you to hidden rewards.

Then there’s the new Spotlight Tech feature, a Double Light Event, a special group of Spirits headed to the realms, and more—keep reading for the details!
Season of Radiance Continues
More colors are on their way to herald the second half of the Season! All the varieties of Colored Light become available with the remaining Seasonal Quests, and the Radiance Guide and their friends invite you to use the dyes you collect to add your own personal, and colorful, touch to your favorite items.

Once you complete all of the Seasonal Quests, the Radiance Guide offers the chance to unlock a new and uniquely shaped cape in exchange for Hearts. (This will remain available to unlock even after the Season ends on 23:59 Sunday April 6th—all times Pacific).
Dye-Related Updates, Too!
This update brings some improvements to how dyeing works:

  • A number of hats as well as face, neck, and head accessories are dyeable now.
  • The dye selection menu now has symbols associated with each color for easier use.
  • Numbers were added to the dye button to correspond with the amount of dye needed to dye a region of an item.
Days of Treasure: Prizes Await on the Horizon
A mystical chart be showin' the path to secret loot! Sky’s newest event comes ashore from March 3rd through 16th for every adventurous Sky kid. Two teams of Spirits (who you may recognize from past Seasons) will appear in a different realm every day, each hoping that you will help them on their hunt for buried treasure.

Teleport to the teams’ location from the guide Spirit in Aviary Village or Home, and then choose which team you’ll help that day. Take a look at their magical map for a clue for where your search will take you, borrow their shovel, and then set out on the search!

The Spirit teams are competing with each other to see which one will receive the most help from Sky kids. At the end of the event, the winning Spirit team will send a special thank you message (and reward) to all Sky kids’ inboxes, in gratitude for your support.

Gain up to five Event Tickets each day from Event Ticket Light rewarded when you discover the Treasure. There are also 15 specially shaped bonus Event Tickets that can be found throughout the event, several in each of the Days of Treasure locations.

Themed items for Days of Treasure include:

  • Treasure Cavalier Boots: 30 Event Tickets
  • Treasure Shovel: 30 Event Tickets
  • Treasure Seeker's Bounty: $14.99 (all prices USD) - Includes an eye patch mask, outfit, and a black and white dye each
  • Dye Blessing: 10 Event Tickets each (up to three blessings)

Free trial spells are available for all items—find them near the Spirits and their map in their event area!
New Feature: Spotlight Tech!
A new feature makes its official premier: Spotlight Tech allows players to perform in front of an audience of other Sky kids, up to nearly 300 in the same server instance!

The spotlight shines in the Aviary concert hall, where this feature lets any player join a queue for their turn to perform a brief melody on the grand concert hall piano. No auditions necessary! Just be sure that you’ve finished the second Season of Duets quest from the Duets Guide in the concert hall.

In between melodies, or if you’d rather enjoy the music others share, there are plenty of seats for you and your fellow audience members to take it all in together.

Over the years, we’ve seen just how many memories players have created by sharing music with each other on instruments, from intricate arrangements to simple but heartfelt songs. We’re excited to see the performances you come up with!
Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time takes effect at 2:00 am Pacific Time on Sunday March 9th, moving clocks ahead an hour. Time notation for events in Sky will change from UTC -8 to UTC -7. If your region does not observe this time change, after March 10th daily reset will occur an hour earlier for you.

Note that due to technical limitations affecting the servers, after reset on March 10th, clusters of Season Candles and Treasure Candles from March 9th will remain in their level for one additional hour, while the clusters of Season and Treasure Candles for the 10th spawn in their respective level.

The total number of Season and Treasure Candles available in the game returns to normal at 1:00 am March 10th PDT. We appreciate your understanding.
Special Group of Visiting Spirits Arriving in April!
Six Spirits will pay Sky children a special visit in April! Mark your calendars for April 7th through 20th—and stay tuned for more announcements as the date approaches.
Some More Updates to Mention
• From March 17th through 23rd, find four extra Seasonal Candle locations in the realms, and you’ll be able to gather an additional Seasonal Candle each day. There will also be double Treasure Candles scattered across two realms each day. Find all eight for a boost to your Candle run!

  • Now if you add a chat message to your Emote Favorites menu, the language filter will be applied before it saves to the menu.

  • If you’re reading the patch notes, you’re likely not a new player—but in case you find yourself guiding new friends through the skies, heads up that we’ve made improvements to the experience for players entering Sky for the first time. Some of these may also be visible even if you’re not new, such as:
    • The Rejecting Voyager is placed outside of their now-former tunnel in Isle of Dawn, and the Constellation Gate there has been removed.
    • If an emote or outfit item is still locked, hint text indicates what Spirit it’s from and how to acquire it.
    • All outfits that can be unlocked can be previewed in the closet by all players.
    • Updates to the Isle of Dawn cave intro sequence, including red Candle placement.
Improvements and Bug Fixes in this update include:
Items with a ✶ symbol next to it means that this is a fix for something that the player community reported to us. So thank you for letting us know about the bugs you’ve come across!
Highlights
• ✶ Fixed Colored Light butterflies being drawn away (or appearing to be drawn away) by deep calling.
  • ✶ Resolved issues that could occur when using one-handed mode, such as inability to deep call, to open the Emote Favorites menu normally, or to interact with Friendship Menus.
  • ✶ Missing Daily Quest Spirits have returned to their counter in Aviary Village.
  • ✶ Elder mask eyes stay lit when the mask is broken.
  • Outfit items you do not own can now be previewed in the color dye station.
  • ✶ Fixed an issue where butterflies would sometimes appear pitch black.
Gameplay
• ✶ There are many wonders in Prairie Peaks, but underwater Shard Eruptions shouldn’t be one of them, so we fixed the Shard Eruption that was happening underwater in the river.
  • ✶ Resolved some Message Shrines not working or allowing messages to be placed.
  • ✶ Fixed error preventing completion of the fourth Season of Duets quest in the concert hall.
  • ✶ To minimize disruption, Shared Spaces cannot be placed in the elevator area of the Eight Player Puzzle in Daylight Prairie.

  • Avatars won’t sometimes randomly change the direction they face when transitioning to a new area within a level.
  • ✶ Avatar’s hands keep their proper shape no matter what when using the heart hands expression, instead of certain outfits causing their hands to look like an origami experiment gone terribly wrong.
  • Looping emote animations are no longer interrupted by idle stretching animations when sitting.
  • Spell icons on the lower left side of the screen can be properly interacted with after using a consumable spell.
  • ✶ Fixed formatting and navigation issues with the blocked players list when there are more than 48 blocked players.
  • ✶ Seasonal Spirits in the Village of Dreams area no longer show the rainbow halo effect after completing their quests.
  • ✶ UI elements no longer overlap when using the dance emote from the Festival Spin Dancer.
  • Fixed rendering issue for flowers around the trio of statues in Sanctuary Islands and around the first stone arch along the path at the beginning of Hidden Forest.
  • ✶ Fixed Spirit poses in the memory quest for the Shivering Trailblazer being in the wrong order.
  • ✶ Holes in the wall are perfect for a spot for an incredible restaurant or cozy cafe, but not so much when it’s a place in Prairie Peaks that players can get stuck in, so we fixed that particular hole in the wall there.
  • Fixed rippled water effect floating in the air in Prairie Peaks.
  • Fixed odd UI behavior when interacting with the dye menu via trackpad.
  • Fixed certain cases where it was possible for a player to get stuck under a table, or under the table in the Dye Workshop.

  • Remembrance Guide's sash no longer clips with their body.

  • ✶ [Android] Mouse input won’t be registered as touch input when used on Android devices.
  • [Android] Android devices now show the correct buttons for Bluetooth controllers.
  • [Android] Text field UI properly displays when chatting on a Galaxy Note 10+ while using a Bluetooth keyboard.
  • ✶ [iOS] Fixed crashes when the player uses the in-game recording on certain devices.
  • ✶ [iOS] Images taken by the in-game screenshot on iPad will no longer be stretched or distorted when graphic settings are set to Letterbox Mode aspect ratio.
  • ✶ [PC] Fixed emoji appearing as "??" when inputting from certain keyboards in Windows 10.
  • [PC] Players on a high refresh monitor will no longer get stuck when trying to pass through the Spirit Gate to the Office area with the Office NPC.
  • ✶ [PlayStation] Levels 3 and 4 Troupe Greeter emote won’t cause distorted sound when canceling the emote.

A Look at Sky in 2025

We’ve kicked off a new year in Sky, which means another year growing and soaring together! You, the community, have helped Sky reach new heights, and all of us here at the studio are ready to make 2025 the most memorable yet. There’s more headed your way than we can squeeze into a blog post, so here’s a sample of what we’re working on for the months ahead!
Connecting with Friends & Sharing Expressions
We all shine brighter when our connections are stronger and when we have more ways to express ourselves.

New features and improvements are on their way so that you and your friends can enjoy even better ways to connect and express yourselves:

  • Spotlight Tech: This new feature coming to the concert hall will allow any player to share a musical performance with up to nearly 300 others across server instances.

  • Sending offline Memories through the Friendship Constellation: Stay in touch with friends even if you aren’t online at the same time—and in true Sky style, your options aren’t limited to only the written word.
  • Making Shared Memories with friends: The team is creating ways for multiple players to record a Shared Memory together.
  • Updates to the Friendship Tree: We’re making it easier to progress through the Friendship Tree with other players you meet, with more abilities lower in the Friendship Tree so that the tree isn’t taller, but wider.
  • Nest capacity upgrades: For when you need extra plushies and plants and decorations alongside your latest prop sculpture.
  • More improvements to dyeing: We’ll be refining the dye feature based on your feedback and expanding categories of items that can be dyed!
Events, Seasons, Parties, and More!
Sky will host a huge range of events this year, with new experiences, returning favorites, and stories that broaden the story of Sky and beyond. Mark your calendars for these: The AURORA Concert is coming back in June for a special celebration.

Plus, Sky’s 6th Anniversary is bringing a spectacular birthday party to everyone in July, with a grand festival featuring players themselves!

To say more would spoil the surprise, so we’ll just say that we’re very, very excited for what’s in store!

Our Seasons will bring inspiring stories that look at the heart of what it means to be a Child of the Light. Season of Radiance has started with a burst of color, and it’s opening up countless possibilities to add your creative touch to your avatar.

And later this year, beloved Spirits seek your help as they search for something that’s missing, and of course, get ready to step into the kingdom’s lore with a Season based on the Sky: The Two Embers animation project!
Building Friendships With Spirits
This year it’s time for big updates that will make it more intuitive and rewarding to build your relationships with the Spirits you meet!

2025 will have the first major improvements to relationships with Spirits. This goes way beyond giving Candles to a Spirit to unlock a new pair of pants. Like other relationships, this will be built on sharing activities and moments together. Spirits’ Friendship Trees will change and expand to reflect these new capabilities, and you can experience new parts of their stories, too.

Stay tuned for announcements on this big project!
Features and More to Feel At Home in Sky
Sky is a place where you can feel at home, be creative, and find others to share your light with. These are just a few more projects that we’re planning to make your time in the realms even more memorable.

  • Meet and play with TGC devs in Sky: Coming soon, this will be a special way to play and interact with members of the studio directly in Sky. (And oh yes, there will be Eden runs.)
  • Optimizing the game loading and installation experience: A shorter wait until you can start flying in the skies!

  • Music sheet revamp: Music is at the heart of so many Sky memories, and we want to make music sheets more enjoyable for everyone to use and play.
  • Jam Station: Improvements are on the way, like the ability to save and re-use the sequences you create.
  • More diverse ways to get Light: There are music sheet challenges, the table in the Elevated Clearing, the geyser and turtle in Sanctuary Islands, and more in addition to candle running, but we know there are even more possibilities to add variety and accommodate different play styles.
  • Continuing to knock back bugs: We’re focused on reducing incidents as well as bugs, especially the ones you report to us—so thank you for sending those bug reports in!
Flying High Together
In a nutshell: There’s going to be a lot to look forward to! Many of these projects are still work-in-progress, so details, content, and timelines may change during development—but a little sneak peek won’t hurt in the meantime!

More improvements, new adventures, delightful surprises—you, the Sky community, have made it possible. We can’t wait to share everything in the months ahead. For now, be sure to stay tuned to our news for future announcements. And until then, we’ll see you in the skies!

A Bounty Awaits in Days of Treasure

Ahoy, ye buccaneers! Winds of fortune carry whispers of a grand tale of lost riches buried beneath the stars. And ye, brave Skyfarers, are just the crew to claim it! Welcome to Days of Treasure, where maps be mysterious, shovels be plenty, and bounty be ripe for the plunderin’!
X Marks the Fun!
From March 3rd PST (UTC -8) through March 16th PDT (UTC -7), mind your sea legs and gather 'round, for adventure calls in the land of the seven realms!

A series of enchanted maps have drifted into the realms of Sky, leading to troves of hidden wonders. But beware, for the sands of time slip swiftly through the glass, and once the map’s magic fades, so too will the treasures! Aye, ye must be swift, sharp, and ready to heave ho!

Each day, two daring teams of Spirits set sail—er, set forth—on a grand treasure hunt, each eager to uncover the loot before their rivals. The noble Scouts seek fortune with keen eyes and steady hands, while the cunning Scavengers rely on wits and wild instincts. But which crew will chart the course to victory? That, me hearties, be up to ye!

How to Join the Hunt!

  • Choose yer crew! Will ye sail with the Scouts one day and switch to the Scavengers the next? The choice be yours!
  • Heed the map’s clues—no easy echoes to guide ye this time! Keep yer eyes peeled for a flag marking the spot.
  • Grab a shovel and dig, dig, dig! The deeper ye delve, the greater the glory!
  • Check the signboards in each location to spy which team be winnin’ the favor o’ the Skyfarers.

When the final bell tolls, all shall receive a prize sent as a message to ye adventurers, based on which crew rallied the most loyal hands!

So hoist yer Spirits high, sharpen yer wits, and let the hunt begin! Riches, rivalry, and revelry await, but tarry not—the magic won’t last forever!

Shine Together in Days of Love 2025

Our connections to each other can bring light to our lives, sometimes in ways we wouldn’t have thought possible. Days of Love returns, bringing something mysterious for Sky kids to discover together.

From February 10th through the 23rd, Days of Love sparkles and shines in Jellyfish Cove. An amethyst-colored meteorite will fall from the starry skies and land on the beach, and working together will be the best way to reveal its gifts to Sky kids!

Use certain emotes near the different clusters of the meteorite to see what effect they have, and you didn’t hear it from us, but you may notice different effects if you use emotes with friends. Take note of how the meteorite is affected—not only will that lead you to find what it holds, it’s a great way to gather Event Ticket Light, too!

Up to four tickets’ worth will come from the meteorite each day. For curious and intrepid Sky kids, keep a keen eye as you stroll and soar along the coastline because there are also 15 bow-shaped bonus Event Tickets located in the area to find throughout the event!

Use Event Tickets to unlock a new hairstyle and a crystal prop (perhaps once part of the meteorite itself?)—the prop even glows depending on what emotes nearby players use. Other mementos for this year’s event can be found in the in-game shop, and Spirits in Jellyfish Cove offer items from previous years for interested Sky kids.

In between meteorites and ticket searches, you’ll also find some of your favorite Spirits from last year’s Days of Love event waiting for you in Jellyfish Cove, too. Each pair of Spirits arrives in turn, each one reflecting the different relationships that bring light to our lives.

And what would Days of Love be without its traditional Double Hearts? Every Heart or partial Heart gift you give to friends through the Friendship Constellation or Friendship Tree during Days of Love will be doubled!

Ultimately, it is the relationships we share that can make light shine in even the most unexpected places. This month, Days of Love celebrates all of those relationships and connections that bring a glow to our lives. We’ll see you in the skies—and in Jellyfish Cove!
