Days of Sunlight 2024: Relax in the Perfect Sky Kid Playground!

Clear streams, peaceful glades, enchanting wildlife—the golden hillsides of the Hidden Forest are just the place to beat the heat. Starting August 26th, escape to a balmy corner of the realms to make new memories with friends and Spirits during Days of Sunlight!

Tucked in the Elevated Clearing, a band of adventurous Spirits will welcome you to a Sky kid leisure land. Gather with the scouts or with friends around a cozy campfire to enjoy some toasty Light snacks (which will also feed your Candle count). It’s a great spot to share stories, but if you prefer music to words, check with the Spirits to jam together in ensemble mode!

Maybe your ideal afternoon is simply chilling on the water and floating with the sounds of the breeze and the jellyfish? This year, grab a new item that’s the perfect prop for this! Kick back along on a manta-shaped inflatable tube, ready for whichever stream, lake, or ocean you want to relax in. (Use a manta call while honking to really feel like you’re one with nature.)

If you want a more active change of pace though, the Elevated Clearing is your playground! Diving boards and water slides are set up for you to make a splash, and if you look around, you might find some baby jellyfish who could use some help to make their way through the world. Each of the Spirits will be out and about as the event unfolds, and no matter when you drop by, one of them will always be down for a friendly game of tag.

You can wear any outfit you want as you bask in the sunlight, but this year the event is bringing new items to choose from for the perfect souvenir! Gather event currency (six per day!) to unlock that manta float, not to mention a swimming outfit as well. The event also introduces a cape with just the right texture to keep your Sky kid cool in the heat of the sun, plus a pair of earrings inspired by the event’s golden rays, both available in the in-game shop.

Of course, you can experiment with new and returning cosmetics using trial spells, too. Find additional details in the event patch notes, which we’ll be sharing soon!

Whether paddling and swimming or floating and lounging, Days of Sunlight is a time to enjoy Sky life at a different pace. For two weeks starting August 26th, slow down and delight in what the world has to offer. We’ll see you in the skies!

Looking Ahead: Revamping Daily Quests

We just celebrated a huge milestone—Sky’s historic 5th birthday! The game has grown so much since its release, and we’re so excited for what the next five years will bring! Now is the perfect time to share what we have in store for the game, so this post is all about plans for something near and dear to your Sky experience: Daily Quest updates.

Daily Quests do a lot in Sky. For starters, they invite you to explore the world, meet Spirits, team up with others, reflect and share your thoughts, and learn about what the realms can hold for you. If you’ve played for a while, you probably even have stories that begin with something like “Well, it all began when I had to face a Dark Dragon...”

Daily Quests have gotten some changes over the years as new events and Spirits were debuted. Still, we’ve seen your feedback asking for more, and we agree—it’s time for updates!

But…is it really enough to just toss in some new quests and call it day?

We think that Daily Quests can be much more than just a way to get those sweet, sweet Candles. They should make you feel more connected to the world of Sky and the Spirits you meet, like you’re building relationships with them and experiencing bite-sized stories as you play. This means one thing: It’s time for a revamp!

Internally, we’re calling this revamp Relationship 2.0 for now. It will be a core project across multiple updates, which we currently expect to come in multiple phases. Our focus will be especially on these:
 • Updating how you get and complete Daily Quests
 • Making under-the-hood improvements for the entire quest system
 • Introduce more quests and activities that make the time you spend with Sky’s Spirits more meaningful

This is a big project, so these phases will each have a gradual roll out. Here’s a general look at what we’re planning.
Updates to Getting and Completing Daily Quests
Step One: Get the ball rolling with quality of life improvements and first batch of new quests.

Maybe you know (or even remember!) that Sky kids originally got their Daily Quests from Spirits. We’re starting with that idea, and then taking it up a notch. Once the first round of quest updates goes out, if you get your quests in Aviary Village, each day a group of Spirits will wait for you at the archway counter, asking for your help with something that they care about.

Simply talk with them to get your quests! If you aren’t sure where to go, the map shrines can point you in the right direction. And, yes, we’ll add in some new quests—some which are even connected to each other, almost like episodes in a sense.

Other changes include things like:
 • Sharing the quest list. Forget to stop by the counter before you left for your candle run? Hold hands with a friend who already got the Daily Quest list, and they’ll automatically share any quests they haven’t finished yet so that you can complete them together.
 • Map shrines will show hints for Daily Quest locations.
 • Haven’t met the Spirit who’s offering a quest? They’ll give you a hint so you can go find them and experience their memories out in the realms.

We’ll start bringing these initial improvements to the live game in the weeks to come, so stay tuned for updates!
Under-the-Hood Improvements, You Say?
Basically, the better our tech and internal tools are for these quests, the more new ideas we can bring to Sky, and the faster you all will see improvements and updates to them.

More specifically—looking at all the Daily Quests, Seasonal Quests, and others, some of them are built on tech from the earliest days of Sky, when the game was much smaller and less demanding than it is now. That tech has limits that don't allow for the kind of expansions and improvements we want to do (or that you all have told us you’d love to see in the game).

So we’re going back to create a new foundation to make the system for all of our quests better. What will that mean?
 • We’ll be able to add more kinds of quests
 • More variety of quest rewards
 • Shorter development time
 • New quest formats
 • A more consistent experience when you want to play a quest with friends

Our awesome engineering team will be handling this part of the project. It’s mostly internal work, so you may not see many changes right away when this new quest infrastructure is implemented, but this foundation will pave the way for where we really want to go!
Connecting Through Quests
Like we said earlier: Quests should mean more within the world of Sky, and the time and effort you put into them can impact parts of the world—for example, the Spirits.

If you spend a lot of time with someone, that should affect your relationship with them. Talking with these spirits, helping them out, listening to their suggestions—we think that’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship. So what could that friendship look like?

We’re still only in the very early stages of planning this (we have phases 1 and 2 to polish first!), but these are some of the ideas we want to experiment with:

Spirits will recognize and befriend you the more time you spend with them in quests and other activities.
Becoming best friends with a Spirit unlocks something new.
Every Spirit in the game could have a unique set of activities that help you build your friendship with them.
A way to show how your friends have also been building relationships with these Spirits.

These are just a few of the things that we’ve been brainstorming, and the final version may end up being a bit different once all the pieces for it are in place.

Whatever the final form is, the goal is the same: Bring more life to these characters who you get to know, and make the time you spend with them more unique and meaningful.
Building More Possibilities, One Quest at a Time
—So all of that is to say, there’s going to be a lot to come. We’re all pretty excited about this project, and we hope you’ll like it! It’s a longer-term goal, so some parts of it you’ll see sooner than others. After all, with something this big we want to make sure it gets a lot of attention for development and quality time in beta testing.

We can’t wait to start rolling out the first changes for Daily Quests! We’ll share more once these changes make their way to patch updates. In the meantime, keep an eye on our news page and social channels during SkyFest for more big news announcements. We’ll see you in the skies!

Coming Soon: Emote Favorites!

Emote expressions are a cornerstone of Sky. They connect us to Spirits, reflect the history of the realms, and maybe best of all, they let us communicate and make friends no matter what language we speak. Players have tons of options for expressions, so we think it’s time for a feature that will make them even easier to use—emote favorites!
How It Will Work
Keywords: convenient and quick!

When this feature goes live, you’ll be able to pull up a favorites menu holding down the cape meter, using a shortcut, or pressing a button on your controller. Up will pop a wheel with slots for eight actions from the expression menu, and you’ll be able to add or remove any expression you want for a slot. Once you’ve added your favorites, they’re always at your fingertips!

Oh, by the way—the favorites menu isn’t just for emotes.

You can favorite just about anything in the expression menu, which means you can add stances, calls, props or instruments you’re carrying, spells, even the button to go home or take out your Candle (which might be particularly handy for players using controllers). Not to mention, you’ll be able to save different emote levels too.

And fear not, we want to make sure that the favorites menu will still allow you to spam your favorite emote to your heart’s content.
Using Favorites
Obviously, this will make it faster to use the expressions and actions towards the bottom of the main menu, so you’ll be able to bust out your best Cackling Cannoneer laugh or Thoughtful Director question mark in record time. But that may not be the only thing you’ll find it useful for.

Making a Shared Memory in your favorite level? Planning a video to share with friends in the Sky community? Putting on a play in the Village Theater? Favorites menu at your service! Load up the menu in advance with expressions and more that you plan to use in your performance for smooth and easy choreography.

Speaking of choreography, we also have to mention how much we’re looking forward to using this for Sky dance parties. With a few short additions to the favorites menu, you can step, spin, twirl, jig, and boogie like the dance pro you are.

These are a few examples of where the favorites menu will come in handy, but we have no doubt that you’ll find plenty of other creative ways to use it, too, and we can’t wait to see what those will be!
Looking Ahead
The emote favorites feature will be coming in a future update. Our goal is to make Sky's social experience more intuitive and exciting than ever before, regardless of what platform you play on!

Like we mentioned, we also expect that the community will find all kinds of creative uses for the favorites menu once it’s live, so there will be more to come after it debuts. We want your feedback, ideas, and experiences in mind once we’re ready for the next stage of this feature’s development, so we’ll have our eyes on the feedback channels after its release. Until then, see you in the skies!

Hotfix 0.26.3 (279033)

Greetings, Adventurers! We have a hotfix!
This update includes:
• Partial resolution for the Light treats at the Ancestor’s Table flying away instead of holding still for Sky kids to gather. (We’re aiming to get the rest of the fixes for this bug into a future update as soon as possible—thank you for your patience in the meantime!)
 • Fix for crashes that could happen when trying to complete the second Season of Duets quest, or when exiting a Tournament of Triumph game immediately after joining it.
 • Screen will not rapidly fade in and out when approaching the 8-person puzzle in Daylight Prairie.
 • Japanese localization improvements.

As always, we look forward to hearing your feedback, and encourage you to join the community discussion on our official Discord server at discord.gg/thatskygame!

Hotfix 0.26.2 (278048)

We’ve just released a hotfix to address an issue on PC that was caused by antivirus software flagging the game.
