The bedrock of our game’s combat is its turn-based system. This means that characters, or team members, take turns to carry out their actions, with each member being allocated a set number of action points for their turn. As the game progresses, the number of action points available to your agents will vary, making strategy and careful planning a pivotal aspect of gameplay.
For the sake of simplicity in the prologue, all agents currently wield the same weapon. However, rest assured that the full version of the game offers a veritable arsenal, including a diverse range of weapons, grenades, medkits, and other special items to cater to every strategic approach.
In terms of the actual gameplay, each character has the option to perform various tasks, depending on their skills and equipment. Actions may include altering their position on the map to achieve a clear shot, or to prepare for an impending attack. As such, maintaining an awareness of your environment and potential obstacles becomes crucial in ensuring the efficient use of action points and increasing the chances of victory.
Once a suitable position has been secured, agents can proceed to attack. If enemies are bunched up or strategically hidden behind an obstacle, employing a grenade may be the best option due to its area damage effect.
Should your agent sustain injuries, items like medkits can be used to restore their health. This ensures they remain combat-ready and reinforces the significance of maintaining a well-stocked inventory.
The variety of actions during a turn are dictated by the cost of each action, with more complex tasks requiring more action points. During combat, navigation between team members is smooth and intuitive, using either the TAB key or a simple mouse click.
Your turn comes to an end when all your agents exhaust their action points, at which point you can click the "Next turn" button, giving your adversaries their turn to move.
In addition to the above, our game also allows the use of SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect) entities during combat. These entities can give you an edge in battle, introducing an extra layer of complexity and fun to your combat experience.
This wraps up our blog post dedicated to the combat system in our game, "SCP: The Expedition." We genuinely hope you find it intriguing and, as always, we eagerly anticipate your feedback. Thank you immensely for your continued support, and do stay tuned for the next devlog!
