Around the initial release of Diablo 4 nearly two years ago, Blizzard said that it had already been working on multiple expansions, and that we can expect one to be released each year. Blizzard kept that promise; we got Vessel of Hatred last year, but if you’ve been keeping up with the news, you’ve likely noticed that not a word has been said about this year’s expansion.
Diablo 4 is coming up to its second anniversary but it still has a good bit of gas in the tank. Earlier today Blizzard shared its roadmap for the game across the rest of the year, though obviously we're a quarter of the way through that already. The game is currently in its seventh season, with its eighth, Belial's Return, starting sometime this month. This one, unsurprisingly, adds Belial, Lord of Lies as a boss, alongside a couple of bosses from Vessel of Hatred as "part of the updated Lair Boss system."
For Diablo 4 players, the news that there wouldn't be a new expansion this year was a pretty tough pill to swallow. However, with the reveal of its roadmap for 2025 and beyond, Blizzard may have just sweetened the deal. Confirming the themes of the RPG's next three seasons and some of the major content they contain, it also teases that the heavily requested leaderboards feature will be arriving - albeit not until next year.
