Dev: Revamping Kagura Survivors Environments – Stage 1

It’s no secret that visual appeal is at the heart of any immersive gaming experience. But achieving that cohesive look is often easier said than done. The environment, in particular, poses unique challenges and opportunities. We’re here to share our approach to reshaping the environment within Kagura Survivors: Endless Night.
Achieving Coherence Across the Map
The first and foremost goal was to bring visual harmony to every corner of the map. This requires that every element follows the same graphic style and perspective. Since the environment serves as the backdrop for Kagura, the enemies, and all abilities, it must tie everything together.

Having a clear idea of how the sprites & ability effects looked allowed us to visualize how the entire environment should be. Here’s a breakdown of the changes we’ve implemented:
Simplifying the Tileset
We noticed the previous tileset could have been quieter, compromising the sprites’ readability. Therefore, we aimed to declutter the tileset to align it better with the abilities and character sprites.

We quickly settled on a plain tileset with strategically placed details scattered across the field. This simple design highlights the character sprites and creates a seamless visual experience.
Objects and Details: Less is More
With the game’s fast-paced nature, objects with too many details can quickly become a distraction. We’ve decided to emphasize large shapes with minimal details rather than complex textures.

This approach keeps the environment engaging without overshadowing the main gameplay.
Enriching the Map: Exploring New Landmarks
Our redesign is not just about aesthetics; it’s about enhancing the game’s explorative nature. While the map layout remains the same, we’ve introduced one or two eye-catching landmarks in each area.

These landmarks enrich the game’s visual appeal and serve as navigational cues, making each area worth exploring.
Your Thoughts Matter
This is an exciting step in our ongoing commitment to make Kagura Survivors: Endless Night look good in every way possible. We value your insights and feedback as we refine the game’s appearance.

Let’s continue to evolve Kagura Survivors: Endless Night together! Keep exploring, and stay tuned for more updates.

Dev: Visual and Functional UI Overhaul Preview

We’re excited to share a sneak peek of a major project we’ve been working on! A complete overhaul of the Kagura Survivors: Endless Night user interface (UI). This isn’t just a fresh coat of paint – it’s a complete rebuild from the ground up, aesthetically and functionally. We aim to bring the UI more aligned with our evolving vision of what Kagura Survivors: Endless Night should be.
HUD Rework
Our HUD (Heads-Up Display) is getting a significant makeover. We’re incorporating new visuals and designs to provide a more immersive and intuitive experience. It’s all about delivering the information you need right when you need it in a way that’s easy to understand and doesn’t disrupt your gameplay.

The HUD now has an inventory button as a simple mechanism to hide the ability slots during gameplay to gain more undisturbed screen space. We’re also adding a spellbook to quickly access information about possible ability and passive synergy evolutions!
Shop Redesign
We’re introducing a significant shift in the way our Shop operates. Instead of upgrading modifiers as in the old system, the Shop will now revolve around upgrading your character. We’re reworking its layout and functionality to make it more user-friendly and visually appealing.

These are just a few highlights of the many improvements coming to our UI. We’re putting our hearts into this project and can’t wait to unveil the complete transformation. But remember, this is just the start, and we have many more exciting updates in store.

We’re eager to hear your thoughts and feedback on these proposed changes. Your input is crucial as we continue improving Kagura Survivors: Endless Night. Let’s continue to shape the future of the game together!

Keep surviving, and stay tuned for more updates!

Dev: Planned Ability and Passive Rework

Building upon the previous foundation of Kagura Survivors: Endless Night, we've taken the exciting step to refine and enhance the gameplay mechanics. While providing an extensive range of options, the original system of abilities, passives, and modifiers had shortcomings. This complexity, especially about the modifiers, led to redundancy and an overwhelming array of choices, hampering the player's ability to strategize and adapt in-game.

In response, we will merge modifiers with passives, significantly streamlining the system while maintaining diversity in gameplay. This change eliminates duplicate effects and ensures each passive contributes uniquely to the game dynamics.

But the rework doesn't stop there. We will introduce distinctive ability evolutions at each level, including synergy evolutions related to passives. This mechanic encourages players to think strategically about their progression, fostering a more meaningful and personalized play experience.

To top it off, we're reimagining all visual effects for the abilities. The goal is to make each ability's attack pattern more distinctive, further increasing variety and enhancing the visual spectacle of the game.

As part of this significant rework of the abilities and passives, we are also adding new and unique abilities to the game. You can see a few of them below.

We believe these changes will significantly improve the strategic depth and visual appeal of Kagura Survivors: Endless Night, encouraging players to explore new tactics and strategies within a more streamlined, intuitive system. We can't wait for you to dive in and experience the enhanced gameplay.

Until then: Happy surviving!
