Keep Out! | Devblog #27

Connected Players Menu

I have created a menu that allows you to view all people connected to the world you are playing on. You can also view their steam profile by clicking on their name. If you are the host you will have the ability to kick a player who is misbehaving.

Code Locks

You can now place locks on your doors and storage boxes. You can place them on doors and crates, just the same as any other deployable item. You can press E to set a code if there isnt aready one. If you are not yet authorized and there is a code, pressing E will bring up a menu asking you to enter the code. If you press E and there is a code, and you are authorized, pressing E will bring up a menu that lets you change the code. Changing the code removes all people who were previously authorized.

Small Changes/Bug Fixes
  • Zombies now drop leather.
  • Fixed building anchors becoming occupied after reloading the game (thanks Molly for pointing this out).
  • Wooden Foundation and Wooden Floor rotation is now determined by player orientation.

Take Shelter | Devblog #26

Air Raid Siren

I have added an Air Raid Siren, that will warn you of incoming danger.

Release Date

Wild Omission will launch into early access on the 24th of November 2023!

Error Messages

Previously if there was a connection error, the game would just boot you back to the main menu, with no warning or prompt explaining what happened. I have now added a system for displaying messages if there was an error that required the game sending you back to the main menu. I have waited until now to add this because this should only happen in multiplayer, and shouldn't happen in the demo.

Invalid Name Warnings

Another quality of life addition is some world creation protection. Previously if you had a world called "My Cool World" and you went to create a new world also called "My Cool World" the game world happily just go right ahead and erase all your progress without warning. Now if you try to name a world the same as an existing world, you won't be able to, and the game will explain that the world already exists. Same thing goes for invalid characters and file names.

Server Version Check

The server browser will now only show servers running on the exact same version as you. This is to prevent potential crashes stemming from incompatible versions in multiplayer.

Bug Fixes/Small Changes
  • Fixed Session Host/Join/Leave bugs.
  • Fixed Spawning in dead and not being able to respawn.
  • Fixed Master volume option not working.
  • Fixed rounding error in stair rotation.
  • Fixed torch effects getting stuck to hands on laggy servers.
  • Fixed a bug that caused rain sounds to play more than once and get stuck playing.
  • Fixed crash during world generation breaking save file.

Community Update

Over the course of Nextfest, Wild Omission has gained many new players. A few of them have been very active in the discord server, and have shared their creations with me there. I really want to show them off here, these are rcjoe69 and dmyress's two bases. I think they are absolutely fantastic!

Sleeping Bags

This was a community suggestion. These are like a spawn point. You can place one down and set it as your current spawn point, and when you die you will respawn there.

Torches

I have added torches to see when it gets dark at night. You can also hit things with it. This was also a community suggestion

Pumpkins

Pumpkins now spawn throughout the world. They can be gathered, eaten, farmed, and turned into the next new addition.

Jack o Lanterns

Because of Halloween being right around the corner, this is the perfect festive addition.

Tables

I have added tables. You can put things on them, including the new Jack o Lanterns. I look forward to seeing whatever cool things you guys can think of.

Melee Hit Markers/Tool Refactoring

I have plans of adding melee weapons at some point in the not too distant future. I have refactored the melee code to make it easier to make melee weapons. Along with this hitmarkers are now played when hitting living things with tools, like the rock, hatchets, or pickaxes.

Bug Fixes/Small Changes
  • Fixed Stone Tools using old wood shader.

Another Small Update | Devblog #24

This Is Another Very Short Devblog

Like the last one, this devblog is going to be really short and sweet. Because of Nextfest I have not had quite as much time to work on anything really cool, but I have still fixed some bugs and improved the game a little with the time I have had. Nextfest was an awesome experience and I very much enjoyed getting to talk with everyone. Our stream reached 815 concurrent viewers! Rest assured next week's devblog will be one to remember!

Improved Gun Sounds

Gun sounds are now more realistic. They will get muffled and delayed the further you are away from them.
