Safety Systems Tutorial
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

One unique aspect of LIRR Commuter is the mandatory safety systems in place on the new M9 and updated M7 EMUs. You can read more about this and our close working with Licensors in our announce article above.

To get to grips with the ACS and ACSES systems, head to the Tutorial video above. You can also access this in game by going to the Railfan TV section of the main menu.
The Route: New York - Long Beach, Hempstead & Hicksville
This part of suburban New York can now be seen with the full benefit of TOD4 lighting, Volumetric Fog and all the other standard features found in Train Sim World 4 routes. This is includes upgraded scenery textures and increased fidelity with the landscape texture blending as well as overhauled water textures which take prominence around the new Long Beach branch, which adds more route mileage and a host of additional LIRR services.

The route encompasses the entire Long Beach and Hempstead branches as well as the Main Line to Hicksville and the Atlantic Branch to Atlantic Terminal allowing for the busy network to run populated with a full schedule of services.

Trains running out of the map from other branches that are not represented exist too and are playable as far as the last stop on route, before continuing out of the map as AI. This can include Port Washington, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead trains which all run on sections of the network that are included in this route Add-on.

In total there are almost 600 playable services with the M9 & M7.

With almost 40 stations on the route (more than any other route Add-on), a representative PIS on platforms is another important feature in a number of different formats. This includes the simple displays found with blue or black backgrounds, others giving time of arrival and platform number and more complex displays at places like Jamaica, where the different line colors are displayed to make it easier for passengers (and players) to know which trains are going where.

Signaling is also a feature that has seen an entire overhaul for this route Add-on, which Brandon covers in both the announce article and preview stream. Approximately 1,900 signals had to be reimplemented individually to simulate how they interact with each other and the trains running between them.

Collectibles hidden throughout the route include the standard local route maps and signs seen in previous Train Sim World routes, as well as Bagel Stands representing the food that New York is famous for!
The Trains: M9 and M7 EMUs
New to Train Sim World is the M9 EMU, only introduced to the real-world LIRR in 2019 and featuring state-of-the-art technology compared to their predecessors.

Joining them is the M7 EMU that players may well be already familiar with, upgraded and overhauled in-game with updated audio (using Harlem Line as a reference) and in cab functionality.

A bit part of the interactivity in these trains are the modern screens that provide engineers with the information they need. In-game these screens are functional and are used for cab set up, fault clearing (though the faults do not affect operation in-game) and observing the train’s power. Players can even see the motors lose and gain power individually as their train runs over gaps in the third rail, which is important to avoid the risk of ending up stranded without power (known as ‘gapping’). The risk of this is low, but possible in certain places such as Long Island City.

Fans of the ‘Guard Mode’ we featured in the UK route Add-on Glossop Line will rejoice in another opportunity (albeit, very different) to once again play as the Conductor in the Double Duty Scenario. This requires playing in this important role for the entire run from Long Beach, checking tickets of passengers, but also interacting with the AI engineer and fulfilling some of the other duties that are required by LIRR Conductors.
Additional Service Layers
In addition to the playable services added in for those with the original M3 EMU loco Add-on, players with Northeast Corridor: New YorkTrenton will see both Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT trains occupying the reworked Sunnyside Yard as static AI. Amtrak's Acela® will appeal for those with the loco Add-on.

Players of Northeast Corridor: New York – Trenton will also continue to see AI traffic from Long Island Rail Road layered in from the original LIRR route Add-on.

Train Sim World 4: LIRR Commuter: New York - Long Beach, Hempstead & Hicksville route Add-on is out now for $39.99/£29.99/€35.99

There is a 10% loyalty discount on launch for Steam players who own the original Long Island Rail Road route Add-on.

Steam Loyalty discount will apply to owners of Long Island Rail Road: New York - Hicksville in TSW2020, TSW2, TSW3, or TSW4.

The 10% loyalty discount will remain in place on Steam until 14th May.
Original Long Island Rail Road Add-ons

Further Details on the Schedule:

Our previous article also explained the considerable work that has gone into reworking the Signaling within the route and rescheduling services for both the M7 and the new M9 to recreate something representative of the 2021 reference material that also gives a good amount of gameplay to the M9 EMU. In total, the route contains almost 600 playable services, with an additional 32 services playable for those with the original M3 EMU loco Add-on, which will remain available to purchase.

All services (playable and AI) total a whopping 1104, making this route the 4th busiest in Train Sim World by service number.

In addition to our own team, self-confessed LIRR-superfan and US-based Train Sim World beta tester Eddie has worked incredibly hard to give continuous feedback on scheduling and the route as a whole. This has involved completing a monumental number of playable services over hundreds of hours playing the route.

Brandon, who'll be joining the Railfan TV team during the LIRR Commuter Livestream, has also contributed a huge amount of time to this route and work on re-signaling which you can read more about in our previous article. Our entire beta team have worked incredibly on hard on this release.

We'd like to take this opportunity to extend a huge thank you to them all for their time and hard work on this and all Train Sim World releases.

In LIRR: Commuter, the playable map consists of:
 • NEW Long Beach Branch
 • Hempstead Branch
 • Atlantic Branch
 • Main Line (as far as Hicksville)

Services heading to final destinations beyond the confines of the map will terminate as a playable service at the last station represented (as denoted above), before heading out of the map as AI. For some express services, this can also happen at Jamaica.
During peak times:
Additional services are available to operate, including some empty non-revenue trains and others requiring coupling procedures.

Each branch has at least a 1 or 2 services heading in or out of Atlantic Terminal.

Both tracks between Floral Park and Hicksville are used in the peak travel direction, allowing for fast trains overtaking stoppers and left hand running. These services occur between 7.00am - 7.30am and 6.00pm - 6.30pm

Jamaica Station has departures from platforms 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 & 8 with many of these departures simultaneous during peak hours.
During off peak times:
Most branches run trains through to New York Penn and Atlantic Terminal is served by Far Rockaway and Hempstead trains.

Other features of the schedule:

Trains passing Valley Stream platforms may have to ‘wrong line’ run during the day to avoid the train from West Hempstead that waits in one of the platforms, before shunting to the other platform.

There's one service starting from Valley Stream Siding and two from Hicksville North Siding.

Also represented is the once-a-day Huntington to Hunterspoint Avenue / Hunterspoint Avenue to Ronkonkoma train which runs as a non-revenue service between Long Island City and Jamaica Sidings.
Additional Service Layers
In addition to the playable services added in for those with the original M3 EMU loco Add-on, players with Northeast Corridor: New York – Trenton will see both Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT trains occupying the reworked Sunnyside Yard as static AI. Amtrak's Acela® will appeal for those with the loco Add-on.

Players of Northeast Corridor: New York – Trenton will also continue to see AI traffic from Long Island Rail Road layered in from the original LIRR route Add-on.

Semmeringbahn - Out Now!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Experience the first full Austrian route in Train Sim World! Semmeringbahn: Wiener Neustadt - Mürzzuschlag is out now!

Train Sim World 4: Semmeringbahn: Wiener Neustadt - Mürzzuschlag route Add-on is out now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for €35.99/£29.99/$39.99

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2662130/Train_Sim_World_4_Semmeringbahn_Wiener_Neustadt__Mrzzuschlag_Route_AddOn

Our expansion into Austria continues! Take control of national operator ÖBB’s modern electric traction through the Semmering Pass along a railway first conceived in 1842.
All Electric Action
Operate three different kinds of services across this route of two halves with electric traction from the ÖBB fleet. Haul passengers in Bmz Coaches across the full length of the route with the ÖBB 1116 ‘Taurus’ electric locomotive or take things slow with local trains between Wiener Neustadt Hbf and Payerbach-Reichenau with the ÖBB 4024 Talent 1 EMU.

If heavy freight is what you prefer, the ‘Taurus’ can also run double-headed with Habbiins, Sggmrss and Shimmns wagons in the consist, making for a more challenging drive through the tight turns and steep gradients.
Take on Semmering Pass
Wind through challenging but beautiful scenery at the western end of the route from Mürzzuschlag to Gloggnitz via stations nestled between impressive viaducts and deep tunnels. Slow curves and notable gradients will see plenty of power needed from both the motors and the brakes on services travelling in alternate directions to and from the peak at Semmering.

At Semmering Station, views out into the mountainous landscape can be appreciated by players and passengers alike, including some very keen characters looking to grab a quick selfie next to the Monument of Carl Ritter von Ghega - part of the Dioramas that have been included in routes since the launch of Train Sim World 4.

Carl Ritter von Ghega (1802 - 1860) was the designer of the Semmeringbahn between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag.

There's also a unique Mastery Tile to unlock - the static ÖBB 5144 railcar! Like other static Mastery Tiles found on the West Somerset Railway and Glossop Line, this is nothing more than an attractive scenery tile.

From Gloggnitz it’s a straight dash at high speed through to the finish at Wiener Neustadt where the surroundings get denser and the traffic busier with both the 1116 and 4024 running in and out of Lower Austria’s busiest station.

Throughout the route there’ll be the usual host of collectibles to hunt down like route maps and first aid points, as well as the fallen branches to chop up as was seen in Salzburg – Rosenheim. There’ll also be 25 Hiker Backpacks hidden across the landscape to find!
Services, Layers and Gameplay
A varied timetable utilises the ÖBB 1116 for different services including NJ, RJ, IC, EC and D trains, with the ÖBB 4024 taking up the CJX9 and R91 trains in and out of Wiener Neustadt. AI traffic using both trains will move in and out of the map at both ends, with a number of depot moves also available.

Freight trains also play a key part, with additional rolling stock supplementing the Habbiins, Sggmrss and Shimmns wagons that come included with this Add-on. Players with previously released Train Sim World content can utilise:
 • DB Laaers (S-Bahn Vorarlberg)
 • Zacns (Dresden – Riesa)
 • DB Roos-T (Maintalbahn)
 • DB Falns 183 (Ruhr Sieg Nord + DB BR 155)
 • VTG Eanos (Kassel - Würzburg)
 • Uacns 82 (Ruhr Sieg Nord + DB BR 363)

Three playable rail tours can be operated using the following locomotives and IC coaches from Linke Rheinstrecke:
 • DB BR 103 + IC coaches: Linke Rheinstrecke (AI = February to April)
 • British Rail Class 47 + IC coaches: Blackpool Branches + Linke Rheinstrecke (AI = June to July)
 • Railpool Vectron + IC coaches: Railpool BR 193 Vectron + Linke Rheinstrecke (AI = August – September)

All three rail tours are seasonal, and so do not appear as AI in the timetable for most of the in-game year.

The Railpool BR 193 Vectron will also sub into ÖBB 1116 freight services, for players that own that locomotive.

Players that own Bahnstrecke Salzburg – Rosenheim will also be able to operate four EC services that use the ÖBB 1116 electric locomotive and coaches on that route. These coaches will also be seen as static stock at Salzburg Hbf.

The ÖBB 1116 will also sub into freight services on S-Bahn Vorarlberg.

Also included are 5 Scenarios simulating some unusual occurrences on the route, including a wildfire, a loose cow, failed trains and lost hikers in the mountains!

If you missed Matt and Jan for the preview of the route you can rewatch our preview right here:

We’ve opened up a Semmeringbahn feedback thread on our forums to hear your thoughts about the route, and we’ve provided some additional details for users on Xbox One consoles to be aware of.
