[p][/p][p]Today we’ll be taking a look at the BM Oplot-T, an export version of the Ukrainian T-84 Oplot MBT for the Thai Army![/p][p][/p][p] [/p][h3]Vehicle History[/h3][p]The T-84 Oplot tank (Object 478DU9) was a further development of the T-80UD Beryoza design developed by the Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau. Adopted by Ukraine on February 8th, 2000, it featured a 1,200 HP 6TD-2 engine, a new welded turret, an improved weapons control system, and next-generation ERA protection.[/p][p]The new engine significantly increased the Oplot's mobility, particularly with the addition of a reverse clutch that allowed the tank to reach a reverse speed of 30 km/h. A further modification, the Object 478DU9-1, received enhanced armor protection from the addition of Duplet external ERA, and the PNK-6 panoramic commander’s sighting system.[/p][p]The export version BM Oplot-T (Object 478DU9-T) was produced for Thailand from 2013 to 2018, with 49 units manufactured. It featured an additional power unit, modified side screens, a rear turret bustle, and an additional ladder at the rear.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][h3]Introducing the Oplot-T![/h3][p]Meet one of the most advanced examples of the T-80 family: the export variant of the T-84 Oplot, used by the Thai Armed Forces! It features good armor combined with ERA, powerful shells, advanced electronic systems, and improved reverse mobility. And it’s coming for Japan! Let’s take a closer look.[/p][p][/p][p]The BM Oplot-T is a further development of the T-80UD MBT from the Kharkiv tank plant. In this blog, we'll first examine the tank's armor protection, as the Oplot features a new turret design and a modified hull. In addition to the T-80 series' traditional combination of homogeneous steel and ERA, Ukrainian designers equipped the Oplot with domestic ERA modules, both integrated and external. These ERA blocks not only significantly increase protection against HEAT-based weapons, such as guided missiles, but also improve protection from kinetic projectiles. Duplet ERA blocks have been added to the sides of the hull and are also mounted on the frontal sections of the hull and turret. But that’s not all! The already well-protected Oplot is also equipped with a Laser Warning Receiver (LWR) and Varta soft-kill APS, which disrupts the guidance of SACLOS ATGMs, causing them to deviate from their flight path.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Did you know? “Oplot” translates to “Stronghold”.[/p][p][/p][p]There’s a lot of interesting stuff inside of the BM Oplot-T. The main compartment still features the large carousel-type autoloader with 28 rounds, which provides a high rate of fire independent of crew skill. Specific to the Thai variant, the rear of the turret includes an extended bustle rack where additional ammunition is stored. The BM Oplot-T also features a modern fire control system, including a panoramic commander’s sight, laser rangefinder, and thermal imaging for both the commander and gunner.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Diving into the ammunition now, where the Oplot really shines. In addition to the rounds familiar from tanks in the USSR tree, the BM Oplot-T is armed with the excellent GP125 ATGM. The Oplot also fires the new top-end BTA4 APFSDS round, with a maximum penetration of more than half a meter of armor![/p][p][/p][p]Having covered the electronics, firepower, and armor, let's take a look at the mobility. There’s a big elephant in the room here, and that’s if the reverse speed, so typically slow on the T-80 series, has improved. And the answer is yes! The Oplot is powered by a new 1,200 HP engine, enabling it to reach top speeds of around 70 km/h on ideal surfaces. However, its most remarkable feature is the improved transmission. Unlike its T-72 and T-80 predecessors, the Oplot boasts an impressive reverse speed of 30 km/h, allowing it to quickly withdraw behind cover after firing and maneuver more easily in tight situations. This makes the BM Oplot-T one of the better MBTs in the game in terms of overall mobility![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Alright, that’s this one done! The almighty export variant of the BM Oplot-T is coming to rank VIII in the Japanese ground forces tree from Thailand! [p][/p][p][/p][p]Today we’re checking out the BMD-4M2, a new rank VI light tank for the USSR![/p][p][/p][p] [/p][h3]Vehicle History[/h3][p]In 2014, Kurganmashzavod developed and submitted a new light tank design for testing, one based on the BMP-3 that was already in mass production. This modification was designated as the BMD-4M2 and was equipped with the Sinitsa weapon system from the BMP-3 with an advanced panoramic sight. It retained the powerful and diverse armament set up of the BMP-3 as well, consisting of a 100 mm cannon-launcher, 30 mm autocannon, and a 7.62 mm PKTM machine gun. The BMD-4M2 successfully passed tests and was adopted by the Russian Army in 2016.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][h3]Introducing the BMD-4M2![/h3][p]A new modification of the proven premium BMD-4M is now coming to the Soviet research tree! Meet the BMD-4M2 “Sinitsa”, which will likely become your favorite top-tier light tank when the Tusk Force major update releases if you play the Soviet ground forces tree. Here’s why![/p][p][/p][p]The BMD-4M2 differs from its premium variant in its new turret design. It features the Sinitsa weapon system from the BMP-3 with a new panoramic sight and high-resolution thermal imager for the commander and gunner. It’s weaponry is also taken from the BMP-3, sporting the excellent combination of a 100 mm main gun and a 30 mm autocannon. The 100 mm 2A70 cannon can fire two types of high-explosive rounds, but it has another trick up its sleeve! It can launch a tandem-charge ATGM, a max of four of these can be taken into battle. Despite this, you’ll likely find that the 30 mm autocannon will end up becoming your primary weapon. It can easily take down helicopters and IFVs, and even MBTs when engaging from the side and the rear, which won’t be too difficult thanks to the high speed of the BMD.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][carousel][/carousel][p][/p][p]Largely shared from the BMP-3, the BMD-4M2’s chassis features a high power-to-weight ratio and a speed of up to 70 km/h. Its also amphibious, and can traverse over water at a relatively respectable speed of around 10 km/h.[/p][p]While you can’t expect miracles in terms of protection for these kinds of vehicles, the BMD-4M2 can at least withstand heavy machine guns from the front, and some poorly placed autocannon rounds as well. Generally speaking though, any hit from a conventional tank cannon will likely cause serious damage. Make sure to use your smoke grenades to retreat where possible, just don’t smoke off your teammates![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]That’s it for the BMD-4M2, this new light tank will be joining rank VI of the USSR research tree when the Tusk Force major update releases.
