[Development] Rooikat 105: The Cat With Bigger Claws

The Rooikat 105 is a further development of the South African Rooikat armored fighting vehicle, developed in the mid 1990s with the intention of upgunning the design’s base model. Soon, War Thunder tankers will have the chance to add this South African gem to their in-game collection, following its arrival with update 1.97!

In War Thunder, the Rooikat 105 will be a new rank VI premium vehicle, available for purchase to British tankers, following the release of the upcoming major update 1.97. Being in essence a response to tankers who weren’t impressed enough by the standard Rooikat 76, the Rooikat 105 takes all the qualities from its predecessor and combines them with a larger and punchier 105mm cannon, while earning your more rewards for each action in combat thanks to its premium status!

As already mentioned, the most notable difference of the Rooikat 105 as opposed to the Rooikat 76, which tankers had a chance to familiarize themselves with since the release of the previous update, is its larger 105mm GT-7 cannon. Comparable in ballistics to some of the other nations’ counterparts, the GT-7 is capable of firing most of the common 105mm NATO rounds, ranging from various sub-caliber to chemical rounds.

[Development] Ikv 103: HEAT mortar

The Ikv 103 self-propelled artillery unit will replace the Swedish SPGs of the Second World War period in the game. It will become one of the main vehicles for battles at low rank

The Ikv 103 SPG will appear in our game at rank III of the Swedish armoured vehicle research tree. The armour on this SPG, even disregarding the bulletproof armour of the fighting compartment roof, leaves much to be desired and can be penetrated by literally any opponent. Unfortunately, the stock armour-piercing rounds and high-explosive fragmentation shells are far from highly effective. They cope rather poorly with medium tanks and light vehicles, but heavy tanks, such as the Soviet KV’s or the British Churchill tanks, are a real problem for them. HEAT shells are available from stock and are capable of penetrating up to 240 mm. But it’ll change, when research on the fantastic HEAT shells with 400 mm of armour penetration on a normal impact is complete! Then, the respectable elevation angle limits (-16/+20), smart positioning, and camouflage allow it to overcome even the most “stout” enemies. The main point is to try and take out an enemy tank’s ammo rack or disable its armament. But the complex ballistics of the 105 mm howitzer does not allow the vehicle to shoot at long range, and the powerful HEAT rounds must be aimed very carefully.

In other words, while this vehicle has some serious disadvantages, it also has some significant advantages and is definitely worthy of attention. These SPGs and other fascinating tanks in Sweden's research tree await you in the beta test for Swedish ground vehicles in the upcoming 1.97 update. Keep an eye out!

[Development] Stormartillerivagn m/43

Sav m/43 ground vehicles will be the most common Swedish SPG’s in starting-rank battles. Let’s talk about them in more detail.

When Swedish armoured vehicle tech tree testing begins in the War Thunder 1.97 update, two versions of the Sav m/43 will be available within the game: a modification of the 1944 version with 75mm armament, and the 1946 version with the 105mm cannon. The first remarkable thing about this SPG is its angular, high crew compartment. In fact, the Sav m/43’s dimensions are its only drawback. This assault gun is fairly compact, and its light weight makes it very dynamic. Its armour is certainly sufficient for the platform of a light tank with up to 50mm at the front of the compartment.

We’re going to tell you about another new addition coming in the 1.97 update very soon. Keep an eye out!
