Today we are excited to share some great news with you!

The War Thunder wiki is officially launching to the public

So, players, we are pleased to present to you the War Thunder Wiki Share Program!

Our vision is for the Wiki Share Program to assist the Wiki in providing up to date and useful information which will benefit anyone and everyone that plays our game. The main objective is to pool together the best information for all our vehicles, making up our Aviation, Ground and Naval Forces.

What does this mean for you?

Well, all reading this now, including you, will be able to earn Golden Eagles by contributing information to the vehicle profiles on the War Thunder Wiki.

The more you contribute, the more you can earn! But don’t worry, the Wiki team will be there to support you along the way, helping you achieve your best!

Golden Eagle rewards are categorised into grades, which are broken into four segments (being the grade, and their respective rewards):
  • Excellent - 501 to 800 GE
  • Good - 201 to 500 GE
  • Okay - 100 to 200 GE
  • Bad - 0 GE

To learn more about the WSP program, please see the official WSP page, click here.

In-order to be a part of this program, you must apply. You can apply directly on the Wiki share program page, and also directly here.

How will the whole process work?
  • First step: If you feel you can do it, feel free to apply and fill in the information asked of you.
  • Second step: if you are accepted into the program, you will be informed via a forum Private Message, welcoming you to the program.
  • Third step: You will only receive GE after you have joined the WSP team, and the articles you have contributed to are marked acceptable and published. You will receive your GE within 7 working days from the calendar month’s end.

Example: Contributions made in December will be issued to your game account within 7 working days from the 1st of January.

[Development] BMP-3 - Helping hand

In the late 70s, the Kurganmashzavod factory started developing a new infantry fighting vehicle to replace the BMP-1. The vehicle got a new experimental light tank chassis. The first models were supposed to be equipped with a 30mm cannon as its primary weapon, as well as grenade launchers, machine guns, and ATGM launchers. The military considered the vehicle’s armament to be insufficient and said that it offered no real advantage over the BMP-1. In order to correct the situation, the Tula-based engineers suggested a new turret with the following armament: a rifled 100mm semi automatic cannon (also an ATGM launcher), a 30mm automatic cannon, and a PKT machine gun.

In War Thunder, the BMP-3 will be available at rank VII in the USSR/Russian armoured vehicle research line. The vehicle’s combat role in War Thunder is active scouting, including across aquatic obstacles, since it is amphibious and able to fire while moving over water. The BMP-3 has a crew of five. Its armour is shrapnel-resistant, and it can withstand frontal hits of armour-piercing tracer rounds of 30mm calibre. The vehicle is quite mobile – it has a power-to-weight ratio of 25 horsepower per ton and a maximum speed of 72 km/h.

The BMP-3 in War Thunder fills the niche of the top-ranking light tank in the Soviet line. Vehicles of this class can’t compete with tanks in terms of survivability, but they cost fewer Spawn Points and are more mobile. The BMP-3 is a splendid addition to a top-ranking setup for Arcade mode or combined battles. The BMP-3’s ace in the hole is its amphibious nature, as well as its successful combination of high-calibre gun with ATGMs and fast 30mm cannon. Soviet tank commanders have needed a vehicle like the BMP-3 in top-ranking battles for a long time now, and with the release of update 1.93, the higher ranks of the Soviet ground forces will become more varied in terms of vehicles.

Centurion Action X - The Chiefturion

A modified late variant of the Centurion tank, fitted with an experimental ‘mantletless’ turret, offering improved protection.

The main feature which makes the Action X one of the more unique variants of the Centurion tank is undoubtedly its turret - a highly unusual one for its time. The turret on the Action X is a so-called ‘mantletless’ turret, which some tankers in War Thunder may know from the FV4202 and Chieftain tanks.

Similarly to those vehicles, the turret on the Action X features very thick and highly sloped surfaces, giving it very decent ballistic protection. In fact, without a slope effect, the toughest parts of the Action X’s turret reach up to 240 mm in thickness. Such formidable armour protection will no doubt present itself as a tough nut to crack for most opponents and is even capable of giving some potent early Cold War ammunition a good run for its money.

However, still being a Centurion tank at its core, aspiring commanders of this machine should bare in mind the weaknesses typically associated with the Centurion - those being average mobility and comparably weak hull protection. In addition, being fitted with the QF 20-pdr (84mm) cannon means that commanders will only have a limited suit of ammunition types available to them. As such, good gunnery skills will be vital in defeating the opponent, especially more heavily armoured ones as every shot needs to count. Fortunately for less experienced tankers, the excellent rate of fire of the 20-pdr cannon may make up for the occasional botched shot sent down range since it allows for quick fire adjustments.

As a result, tankers will be best off utilising the Action X as a rearguard unit, further increasing its effectiveness by cleverly positioning the vehicle in a ‘hull-down’ position. That way, commanders will minimize the risk of less protected hull elements being hit, while only exposing the turret as the most effective part of their armour, thus maximising protection.

[Development] Ka-50 “Black Shark”

Ka-50 is the first, and as of now the only, helicopter in War Thunder that has a coaxial main rotor design. This build has several advantages over the traditional tail rotor design, including improved handling characteristics, manoeuvrability and cargo capacity. Upon reaching its maximum speed of over 300 km/h, the “Black Shark” is able to carry 2,300 kg of ordnance. The most notable features of this helicopter include the wide selection of suspended armaments and possible combinations thereof, the cockpit armour, and the 30mm cannon with its HEF and AP feeds.

In our game, the Ka-50 will be a premium rank VI helicopter in the USSR/Russian tech tree. The “Black Shark” will prove to be the perfect vehicle for many pilots thanks to its range of excellent characteristics one would expect to see in a top-of-the-line machine. There’s a lot to like here: great speed, responsive controls, decent cockpit defences against AA machine gun fire and, of course, a complete arsenal for taking out any type of target. The 30mm cannon installed on the right side may not have a full 360-degree firing arc, but to compensate for that, it can be loaded with a choice of either high-explosive fragmentation or armour-piercing shells. Its destructive power is more than enough to send anti-air guns, light ATGM carriers, and helicopters back to the hangar.

If you are planning an all-out assault on enemy aircraft, be sure to stock up on the air-defence system Igla-1V, which has the best rank among the air-to-air missiles in the entire game. The “Vikhr” ATGMs serve as the primary weapon for taking down armoured targets – you can bring up to 12 of those with you to battle, alongside other ordnance choices, of course. These new-generation missiles can easily take out state-of-the-art tanks fitted with an ERA system from a distance equal to 10,000 metres. The four suspended-armament points also allow the pilots to bring to combat things like unguided rockets, up to 1,000 kg of bombs and gun pods containing 23mm cannons – basically, the stuff that would keep enemy tank commanders occupied and sweating!
