[News] Bomber repair costs and bombing reward adjustment

In the upcoming economy update we will focus on the overly expensive repair of heavy bombers. Repair prices, awards for base bombing and costs for suspended weaponry will be corrected and all this will make flying out in heavy bombers much less risky and more affordable for average players. This will of course have an effect on any kind of bombing attack from all bomb capable aircraft.

In addition to the automatic balancing (manual adjustment being done regularly after major updates) of Battle Ratings in War Thunder, there is also an automatic algorithm that is responsible for the game economy. Among its tasks are also the adjustment of repair prices depending on the average earnings of the specific vehicles. Bombers possess base destruction as a unique goal which brings greater income, however, heavy bombers find themselves in a situation over time where prices for repair automatically increase to a substantial amount. This has made flying out in them an economically risky business for players.

Repair cost of some bombers will be reduced!

To solve this problem it would not be enough to simply reduce the award for base bombing and therefore the repair cost because even within one rank the aircraft may have very different carrying capacities which would result in a situation where lightweight bombers would receive a low amount of awards. We believe that the optimal solution is an algorithm that adjusts the award value for base bombing based on the current bomb load. This in turn will reduce the repair cost of some bombers by up to 20% of the initial costs and will not affect the total income of the vehicles even with a low bomb load in any battle result.

For example: a Tu-2S-44 (BR 6.0) with 2,000 kg of bombs will receive a decent award for successful base bombing and the B-24D-25-CO (BR 6.0) with 3,600 kg bombs in turn will not reflect twice the repair costs of the Tu-2S.

The algorithm will affect only awards for base bombing and will not affect other battle awards in any way. So bombers will still retain the ability to provide their pilots with stable Silver Lion earnings.

[Event] Naval Enduring Confrontation

Achieve superiority by destroying enemy convoys, ports and vehicles.

Aircraft fly outs require a fixed amount of available respawn points. Respawns on ships with BR 4.7 and higher require respawn points depending on the BR. The amount of respawns is not limited and you can respawn with same vehicle multiple times but every respawn will cost Silver Lions depending on the repair cost of the vehicle.

We invite you to take part in naval enduring confrontation in which you will experience completely new scenarios.

From 15:00 GMT on the 20th of September till 07:00 GMT on the 23rd of September

[Enduring Confrontation] Saipan (AB)

The event ending time may be changed. Costs for respawn and awards may be changed over the testing period.

In the naval enduring confrontation, battles will be held around the ports which are the key objects of the mission. Teams will receive points for capturing and holding the ports and also for completing of other mission tasks. The team which reaches 15,000 points first wins.
  • Required vehicles in setup: Fleet of BR 3.7 - 4.3
  • Acceptable vehicles in setup: Fleet and aircraft of BR 1.0 - 5.7

Scenarios

Naval convoys
New scenario for Enduring Confrontation: naval convoys. On the map border, naval convoys will appear which will move towards the sea ports of their respective team. Whilst the convoy is active, the allied team has additional respawn points close to it. The enemy team will also have respawn points at a distance from the convoy. The number of ships in the convoy depends on the number of players in the game session and on the port size where the convoy is attempting to reach.

Port attack
New scenario for Enduring Confrontation: port attack. Each team will have 3 ports at the start of the mission. Each port has several AI ships which will defend the base. Each port is immediately available for players to capture and there are no additional tasks for capturing the ports. If the convoy from the “naval convoy” scenario reaches its port it is very likely that the AI ships from this port will attack one of the enemy ports and the players will receive additional points for helping them to capture enemy port.

Naval bombers
In case there is an active naval convoy on the map the enemy team may have a bomber which will attack and destroy the convoy. The entire logic of the scenario is working in the same way as for ordinary bombers attacking ground bases, but now their targets are convoy ships.

[Development] Squadron vehicles: Me 262A-1a/U1

We recently added some unique vehicles to the game which players can receive for active participation in random battles (in addition to being available for purchase with Golden Eagles).

The new modification of the legendary ‘Schwalbe’ Me 262A-1a/U1 comes to War Thunder as a reward for squadron players in one of our future updates!

In War Thunder, the Me 262A-1a/U1 will be a reward for active game participation by squadron players. Experienced pilots are well acquainted with the classic “Schwalbe” and this new modification of the aircraft doesn’t have any other noticeable differences from other Me 262s. When flying this aircraft, you’d better have a high amount of energy up your sleeve, avoid dogfights (especially with piston-engined fighters), and of course, remember that your opponents can be faster than you. However, as there aren’t likely to be many other jet engine aircraft, and given its relatively low battle rating, the Me 262A-1a/U1 can easily become a master of the skies.

As many as three types of guns allow players a choice of three different ammo racks. This might be considered the most interesting feature of the Me 262A-1a/U1 - at the same time, you can equip the guns with, say, excellent 30mm armour-piercing rounds for the MK.103, and powerful HE shells for the MK.108 and MG.151/20. So, when engaging in battles at high altitudes, you can easily catch out a couple of clumsy bombers, and with a sharp dive, take a bite out of some ground targets as well - there are many possibilities!
