Aleksandr Kosmodemyansky
Aleksandr was the younger brother of saboteur Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, the first woman awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union during World War II. Aleksandr went to the front at the age of 18 with the goal of avenging the death of his sister. He participated in the expulsion of German troops from Belarus and the Baltic states, but became famous during the assault on Königsberg. On April 6th 1945, Aleksandr’s vehicle was the first from his unit to cross the Landgraben Canal. Then near Königsberg, his battery captured the Queen Louise fort, forcing more than 500 enemy soldiers to surrender. He died on April 13th 1945 in the battle for East Prussia. He was posthumously awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union.
April 1st — April 4th

Battle of the Karbala Gap
The gorge between the Euphrates River and Lake Al-Milkh in central Iraq is a key road to Baghdad, which is why elite Iraqi Republican Guard Forces held the line there against international coalition forces in 2003. However, they achieved very little: for one damaged American tank, hundreds of destroyed Iraqi equipment occurred. The Medina division was destroyed, and on April 3rd American troops occupied the Baghdad airport.
April 5th — April 8th

Battle of Königsberg
From April 6th to April 9th 1945, the fortress city of Königsberg, the main stronghold of Germany in East Prussia, was stormed. Aircraft and artillery played an important role in the operation, providing constant support as well as sappers and flamethrowers. As a result of the operation, the main Wehrmacht forces in East Prussia were defeated.
April 9th — April 12th

Operation Weserübung
Operation Weserübung is the name of the German military operation to occupy Denmark and invade Norway, which began on April 9th 1940. Denmark offered no resistance, but the Battle of Norway lasted two months, until the Allied forces switched to France where the situation turned out to be a collapse for them.
April 13th — April 16th

Graz-Amstetten Operation
The final operation of the Red Army in Austria began on April 15th 1945 and continued until the end of the war. It was named after the cities of Graz and Amstetten in central Austria, which the USSR managed to occupy on May 8th, the day Germany signed the act of surrender. However, individual pockets of resistance continued to fight even after the official end of hostilities.
April 17th — April 20th

Capture of Hamburg
On April 18th 1945, British forces began attacking Hamburg, a key port in Northern Germany. The city’s outnumbered defenders held out for a couple of weeks, and by the end of the month, negotiations for surrender began. The surrender of the city was soon followed by the end of World War II in Europe.
April 20th — April 23rd

Operation Vulcan
On April 22nd 1943, the Allies launched Operation Vulcan, the penultimate attempt to encircle Axis forces in Tunisia and force their surrender. It lasted two weeks and faced a well-organized Italian and German defense. Having reconsidered their tactical decisions, the Allies were soon able to break through enemy defenses and capture the remnants of the North African Axis forces in early May.
April 24th — April 27th

Operation Toward Beit-ol-Moqaddas
An Iranian Army operation carried out at the beginning of the Iran-Iraq War. Within its framework, Iran managed to liberate the port city of Khorramshahr and drive out Iraqi troops from the territory of Khuzestan. About 19 thousand Iraqi soldiers were surrounded and captured in Khorramshahr itself.
April 27th — April 30th

Cambodian invasion
After coming to power in Cambodia, pro-American General Lon Nol demanded that the North Vietnamese Army leave the country. In response, the Viet Cong launched a full-scale offensive, which Lon Nol’s forces could not contain on their own. The Americans came to the rescue on April 29th 1970, but the North Vietnamese command knew about the operation in advance and evacuated most of the soldiers further to the west, losing only camps and equipment.
