9A35M2 - it’s time to master missiles!

In the upcoming War Thunder update, the 9A35М2 will become the earliest SAM available for research in the Soviet tech tree.
9A35M2, SAM, USSR, rank VI
Features:
 • Maneuverable missiles
 • High profile
 • Unable to hit ground targets
 • Amphibious

With the release of the next major game update, enthusiasts of Soviet vehicles in War Thunder will receive the 9A35M2, a.k.a. Strela-10M2, the first air defense system available for research in the Soviet ground vehicle tech tree. The machine, built on the chassis of the MT-LB armored tractor, is designed to destroy enemy aircraft at short and medium distances.

The 9A35M2 ammunition load is 8 surface-to-air missiles with a thermal seeker: four in launch containers and four available for reloading. The missiles are capable of hitting enemy aircraft at distances up to 5 km, while the missile has a good maximum overload indicator for its rank, which results in high maneuverability.

The new 9A35M2 should feel very familiar to tankers already familiar with the Shturm-S, as both vehicles share the MT-LB multi-purpose chassis. It is a quite mobile amphibious platform that can easily overcome rough terrain. The armor of the vehicle is only bulletproof and will not protect against tank guns, autocannons and close bomb explosions. By the way, the 9A35M2 itself has a fairly high silhouette, so it would be wise to fire from behind cover or from the lowlands.

The new Soviet air defense system will take place between the artillery anti-aircraft guns and the 2S6 SAM, thus covering the need for anti-aircraft missiles at the pre-top ranks. The vehicle will be able to provide invaluable assistance to the team, destroying attack aircraft and early helicopters, which are forced to come close to the tank battle area due to the limited range of their ATGMs.

Look for a new SAM vehicle at rank VI of Soviet armored vehicles research tree immediately after the release of the upcoming War Thunder winter update. You will always be the first to know about other interesting vehicles, locations, new game mechanics and game improvements in our Devblog series. Stay tuned to the news!
December 1st — December 4th

Bernhardt Line
The Bernhardt Line was the third defensive line the Wehrmacht built in Central Italy to defend from the advancing Allied forces. Unlike most other lines, it did not run across the entire Italy, but it included several strategic heights — so the battle for the Bernhardt Line that started on December 1st, 1943, lasted for a month and a half.
December 5th — December 8th

Battle for Moscow
On December 5th, 1941 the Soviet Army under Moscow began its major counteroffensive that the Wehrmacht wasn’t prepared for. Rapid advance of the Red Army crushed the German forces and changed the course of the war. Blitzkrieg was over, and the German forces were pushed back over 100-200 km, having abandoned regional centers Kaluga and Tula.
December 9th — December 12th

Operation Compass
In September of 1940 the Italian Army departed from Libya and took West Egypt, having pushed weak British forces from the region. But then the Italians stopped their advance, and yet haven’t mounted a good defense and haven’t established communication between their camps and posts. The Allies took advantage of that and in just four days, from December 9th to 12th, routed the Italian forces that were almost five times their numbers, and pushed them from Egypt.
December 12th — December 15th

Operation Winter Storm
An attempt by the Axis powers to free General Paulus’ army from encirclement under Stalingrad lasted from December 12th to 24th of 1942. The German forces managed to get close to the Soviet circle, but took very heavy losses in the process, and they couldn’t breach it by themselves, while Paulus had orders to hold the city, and not abandon it. Operation Winter Storm ended in failure.
December 16th — December 19th

Ardennes Offensive
On December 16th, 1944 a large-scale counteroffensive was launched by the German Army on the western front. Germany aimed to crush the Allied forces to bargain for a ceasefire on its terms, but it fell into a trap. The Allies foresaw the attack, purposefully weakened their defenses in Ardennes, and when the Germans advanced, encircled them. The fighting lasted for a month and a half and, even though Germany lost it, the Battle of the Bulge became the bloodiest battle in the entire American history.
December 19th — December 22nd

First combat mission of Flying Tigers
Major Claire Lee Chennault was an advisor in the Chinese Army during the early years of WWII. It was on his initiative that a squadron of American volunteer pilots was formed in China. It was named Flying Tigers and fought for the first time on December 20th, 1941. The Tigers were very effective at fighting the Japanese forces, but were disbanded and replaced by regular US forces in half a year.
December 23rd — December 26th

Zhytomyr-Berdychiv operation
The Dnieper-Carpathian offensive began on December 24th, 1943. The Axis powers were quite battered and lacked strategic reserves by that moment, and the Soviet Army went into offensive before the enemy could shore up its defenses. As a result of the Zhytomir–Berdychiv offensive Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions were liberated, and a large portion of German forces was encircled under Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi.
December 27th— December 31st

Operation Nordwind
The last major offensive by the Wehrmacht on the western front began on December 31st, 1944. The Ardennes offensive was on the brink of collapse, so the German command attempted to destroy a weakened American army in Alsace. After a long and bloody battle the American forces withdrew, but soon managed to stop the Germans’ advance. The operation was a failure.
