[Development] Sverdlov class: the Tzar of the Seas

The Sverdlov light cruiser will be one of the top ships in the Soviet naval tech tree in War Thunder update 1.97 “Viking Fury”.

When the 1.97 "Viking Fury" update is released, the Sverdlov will be the top ship in the Soviet navy tech tree. Commanders will be able to begin researching the Sverdlov (Project 68bis) once they have mastered the Chapaev (Project 68) light cruiser. This switch will let them understand all the advantages of the new ship. The Sverdlov inherits her main armament, along with her range of ammunition, entirely from her predecessors four three-gun turrets with 152mm cannons. There is also more universal weaponry, now there are six turrets with twin 100mm guns. The number of automatic anti-air guns has also increased with a dense wall of fire provided by thirty-two 37mm weapons makes the Sverdlov extremely dangerous to attack aircraft and torpedo bombers, which are forced to attack from low altitudes. Now, there are also torpedoes: two torpedo launchers on the sides of the ship, with five torpedoes in each.

In the game, the Sverdlov shows as an extremely powerful vessel. As well as the excellent weaponry and armour, the ship is distinguished by her admirable sailing performance and high survivability. She is capable of surviving long battles and heavy damage; destroying such a ship requires the coordinated action of several enemy ships and aircraft. The Sverdlov is deservedly the best warship in the USSR line and one of the best light cruisers in the game. Meet the new top-class ship in War Thunder update 1.97 "Viking Fury", coming out really soon™!

[Development] Pvkv II: Glass Cannon

The Pvkv II is an experimental tank destroyer, developed in the early 1950s as a stopgap measure for the Swedish military, lacking in modern tanks at the start of the Cold War. Coming to the game as part of the new Swedish ground forces tree, tankers will have the chance to put this interesting prototype to the true test of combat in the War Thunder’s upcoming update 1.97!

In War Thunder, the Pvkv II will await eager tankers at Rank III of the brand new Swedish ground forces tree, coming to the game as part of update 1.97. Despite looking like a German Marder III that’s been living in Swedish exile for the duration of WWII, rest assured tankers, this is in fact a domestically built Swedish tank, bringing with it some noticeable differences, which set it apart from its German doppelgänger.

One of the most striking visual features of the Pvkv II is its familiar looking chassis. This is unsurprising given that the chassis was taken straight from a Strv m/41 - a Swedish licence-built version of the original Czechoslovak Pz.Kpfw. 38(t). The only notable difference with the chassis compared to the original design, is that it houses a more powerful 165 hp engine, serving merely to offset the weight increase caused by the conversion to a tank destroyer.

[Development] AMX-32: Further Improvements

The AMX-32 is an improved variant of the French AMX-30 main battle tank, primarily developed for customers on the export market. Standing out from the base model with better protection and a higher caliber gun, the AMX-32 will soon reinforce the French top ranks and will await all seasoned tankers in the upcoming update 1.97!

In War Thunder, the AMX-32 will be a new main battle tank, arriving soon as part of update 1.97 to Rank VI of the French ground forces tree. Further expanding upon the arsenal available to seasoned French tankers, the AMX-32 offers its future commanders improved protection over the regular AMX-30, as well as substantially improved firepower, courtesy of the lethal new 120mm smoothbore cannon with stabilizer, thermal vision and laser rangefinder!

Although the AMX-32 never had the chance to prove its mettle in the heat of combat in the real world, War Thunder tankers will soon have the chance to do so on the virtual battlefields in the game. To do so, make sure to add the AMX-32 to your vehicle collection upon its arrival to the game as part of update 1.97. Until then, happy hunting tankers!

[Development] Rooikat 105: The Cat With Bigger Claws

The Rooikat 105 is a further development of the South African Rooikat armored fighting vehicle, developed in the mid 1990s with the intention of upgunning the design’s base model. Soon, War Thunder tankers will have the chance to add this South African gem to their in-game collection, following its arrival with update 1.97!

In War Thunder, the Rooikat 105 will be a new rank VI premium vehicle, available for purchase to British tankers, following the release of the upcoming major update 1.97. Being in essence a response to tankers who weren’t impressed enough by the standard Rooikat 76, the Rooikat 105 takes all the qualities from its predecessor and combines them with a larger and punchier 105mm cannon, while earning your more rewards for each action in combat thanks to its premium status!

As already mentioned, the most notable difference of the Rooikat 105 as opposed to the Rooikat 76, which tankers had a chance to familiarize themselves with since the release of the previous update, is its larger 105mm GT-7 cannon. Comparable in ballistics to some of the other nations’ counterparts, the GT-7 is capable of firing most of the common 105mm NATO rounds, ranging from various sub-caliber to chemical rounds.
