Nikoderiko: The Magical World — Director’s Cut News

New “Realism” Mode Coming to Nikoderiko June 31!

We hope you’ve been enjoying your time in the Magical World, as it’s about to get real! You’ll be able to play your favorite platformer as a realistic mongoose in the new Realism Mode, coming June 31, 2025!

As well as new animations and character models, you’ll also be able to get to grips with new features that truly capture the essence of being a pair of adventuring mongooses!
New Feature: Snake Snack
Take on Cobrings in a whole new way with the “Snake Snack” feature! Those little snakes don’t stand a chance against the newly authentic Luna and Niko—gobble them down without a second thought and receive an extra Life!
New Feature: Venom-Resistant
Don’t worry about your foes fighting back, as real mongooses are resistant to venom, and now you are too, taking little to no damage from enemies in this new way to play.
New Cutscenes: Incommunicado
Real mongooses can’t talk, and now Luna and Niko can’t speak either! Get to grips with the true way of communicating like a mongoose—leaving scent markers. Now each cutscene will feature Niko and Luna smearing their surroundings with viscous trails—convenient for finding your way around!

We hope you enjoy the new Realism Mode when it drops on June 31—you’d be a fool not to!

Luna’s Boss Diary: Toby The Dragon

Hey adventurers, Luna here! As you journey through The Magical World with Niko and me, you’ll come across dangerous and devious Bosses! I’ve been making notes on every dastardly foe we see to help out our fellow adventurers.

Next up: Toby the Dragon!
Toby The Dragon
Dry Sea by name, but not quite by nature! As we explored the definitely wet parts of this realm, Niko and I stumbled upon a mysterious old ship—just in time for our stomachs to start rumbling!

Seeing this as a perfect opportunity to express his humility, Niko declared that he’d catch us a fish for dinner with his “talents”. I joked that I hoped it’d be as big as his ego! I should have been more careful what I wished for—as instead of catching a delicious fish, Niko reeled in Toby!

Toby the Dragon certainly gave us a shock when he appeared from the murky depths, but thankfully we had the ship wreckage to hide behind when avoiding his fire-breathing attacks. We also had a cannon at our disposal, which Niko used to carefully time our shots at Toby.

Toby’s attacks didn’t stop there, as the dastardly dragon fired fireballs and showers of meteors, as well as sending shockwaves across the ship that we had to dodge!

We finally managed to put Toby back in the drink where he belonged, and as he fell back into the watery abyss, the mighty splash that drenched us also provided Niko with the fish he promised to catch! Some mongooses have all the luck…

Niko and I wish you luck in your battles with each fearsome foe you meet. Luna, signin’ off!

Luna’s Diary: Marvel at Magic Wood!

Hey, adventurers—Luna, here! Are you ready to check out the beautiful, fun, and downright dangerous realms that await you? As Niko and I journey through The Magical World, I’ve been making notes on each zone we visit to help out our fellow travelers.

There’s plenty of loot to pick up, and scenery to enjoy, so don’t forget to collect everything and see it all!

Next up: Magic Wood.
Magic Wood
Magic by name, magic by nature. This fantastical forest is complete with giant mushrooms and is a wonder to behold and explore. First up was Fallwood Treasure Terrors, a mystical place home to Ents and plenty of fun foliage for Niko to climb!

From scrumptious scenery to sour prickly foes—we soon tumbled into Thorns Valley! This zone was full of icky insects, bouncy funghi, and plenty of spiky saboteurs to dispatch.

Soon we arrived at the suspiciously-named Under Pressure—but no world is a match for Niko’s parkour prowess, and we breezed through the floating pedestals, hopped on the heads of Cobrings, and avoided giant battering rams. He really cooked up a storm!

Glimmering Grove is just as incredible as the name suggests—a deliciously scenic land full of giant tree trunks and glowing rocks, all set against the backdrop of flowing waterfalls. However, it still had its fair share of enemies to fight!

Just as we were getting a taste for magical forests, we landed in Chef’s Cafe! A far cry from the wonders of the rest of Magic Wood, Chef had a more sinister goal in mind—to make mongoose stew!

After escaping the greedy cook’s grasp, it’s safe to say that we lost our appetites for a while!

Niko and I hope you enjoy each world you encounter on your adventures as much as we did! Luna, signin’ off!

Luna’s Boss Diary: Chef

Hey adventurers, Luna here! As you journey through The Magical World with Niko and me, you’ll come across dangerous and devious Bosses! I’ve been making notes on every dastardly foe we see to help out our fellow adventurers.

Next up: Chef!
Chef
Magic Woods has all the ingredients for a mystical adventure: giant mushrooms, sky-scraping towers, luminescent caves, and…a chef?!

As we traversed through this astonishing realm, we met Tim the Cook, who invited us (rather too enthusiastically) to sample the culinary masterpieces of his boss—Chef. Niko never says no to a complimentary dinner, but as the saying goes: there’s no such thing as a free lunch! It turns out that the Chef didn’t want to serve us a meal, we were the meal!

The battle came to a boil in Chef’s very own kitchen, where Niko and I hurled dynamite at the greedy gourmand, taking care to avoid the deadly green slop being launched at us from his cauldron. Chef had one more tasty trick up his sleeve—line cook minions pushed us away from our cover, meaning we had to dodge the gross goo instead of hiding from it.

After defeating the kooky cook in round one, he came back with a vengeance and began to spin around like a blender, trying to make a mongoose smoothie. With each spin, Chef bonked his head, leaving him stunned and open for us to make our move. Niko ground pounded him, and the food fight was won!

Chef may have thought he had the recipe for success, but Niko and I know our way around the kitchen!

Niko and I wish you luck in your battles with each fearsome foe you meet. Luna, signin’ off!
