Guards II News #20. Soundtrack is on a way.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Hello there,

We are in the final stages of completing the game's development. Technically, the game is ready. Our programmer has been focused on optimizing the game's performance over the last month, and now they're assisting the artist in creating impressive credits.

For the past two months, we've been working on the soundtrack, and we've completed 7 out of 13 tracks. We've decided to share one of these tracks on YouTube, and we're excited to showcase it. It's really cool!

Localization has also been completed. On the day of release, the game will be available in 12 languages, thanks to all the people who helped us with translations. Their names will be featured in the credits. Speaking of which, we've designed some really cool credits that we'll be revealing in the next update.

The game release is coming soon!

Guards II News #19. Story and Comics.

Hello there,

We are diligently preparing the game for release, and this month marked the completion of the story comics. Initially not part of the plan, we later decided to incorporate them because they significantly enhance the game's atmosphere. While it may be unconventional to finalize the story after the game is developed, we dedicated our best efforts, and I believe we succeeded.

The first three comics featured in this announcement serve as intro comics, appearing right after the start to explain the initial events. Additionally, there is a comic after the completion of each world and an extra special comic at the end of the game.

We initially aimed to use neural networks, but we couldn't achieve the desired results. So, our artist spent 2.5 months creating them in the old-school way. While it consumed a significant amount of time, we believe the effort will prove worthwhile

Guard's translation into 12 languages is underway, with completion reached for 8 languages. We anticipate wrapping up the entire translation process by January.

The programmer and artist are diligently working on small enhancements for the game. These improvements mainly focus on refining the user interface and enhancing the overall visual appeal.

Our game designer has meticulously prepared the entire game for sound design, planning all the necessary sounds. Currently, our sound designer is actively working on them and has already completed 50%. We expect the entire sound design process to conclude by January as well.

Currently, two composers are working on the game's music. While we have one final track completed, there are eight tracks in progress. Crafting music is a meticulous task that cannot be rushed, and our composers are putting forth their best efforts. They began their work later than expected due to their prior commitments to Age of Defense.

In other positive news, our mate Berke, initially asked to assist with Turkish translation, found the game incredibly interesting and managed to complete the entire game in 5-6 days, including Mode #2. This makes him our first full completionist, underscoring the game's engaging nature. Furthermore, he identified only two bugs, both of which we promptly fixed. Technically, the game is now in a perfect state.

Let's look forward to January when we aim to wrap up the remaining tasks.
Happy Nуw Year!

Guards II News #18. Pre-final screenshots

Hello there,

We are progressing with the development of the game. We have planned to translate the game into 12 languages, and we are pleased to announce that we have found the last person who will assist with the translation. As a result, we are currently awaiting the completion of the translation process for Guards II. Currently, five languages have already been finished.

As mentioned earlier, the game is essentially ready. All missions, upgrades, and other elements are functioning and available for play. Currently, our focus is on testing the game with players, who provide valuable feedback, enabling us to enhance and refine the gaming experience. That is our current focus.

In addition to translation, we are now in need of sounds and music. Two composers are actively working on the game's soundtrack, and we third person is making the sound design for us.

Therefore, we eagerly await the completion of translation, sounds, and music to proceed with planning the game release.

We have recently uploaded new screenshots, showcasing the significant evolution of the game since our last update. These represent a pre-final version of the game, and the final release will have a similar appearance.

What are your thoughts? Does it look good?

Guards II News #17. Game Info Menu

Hello there,

We are in the midst of refining the game. After providing the game for testing to 10-15 players, we've gathered a lot of valuable feedback. Our aim is to improve the player experience. While Guards have simple game rules, some players found them unclear. To address this, we've enhanced several menus and introduced a "Game Info" menu that contains 20 game tips, each explaining different game mechanics.

In this announcement, we've shared 10 of these tips. Our designer has strived to make them as clear as possible, and we believe he has succeeded. It's worth noting that the original game had only four such tips, highlighting how the game has significantly evolved into something more comprehensive. We've added four types of damage mechanics and two hero stances, which have had a notable impact on the gameplay.

Additionally, we're actively working on in-story comics. Considerable effort has been dedicated to this aspect, and we believe we've finally achieved the quality we aimed for. These comics will be relatively small but play a crucial role in enhancing the game's story involvement. All slides and text have been approved, and our artist is currently working on the final versions. We will showcase them at a later date.

The development of comics and the Game Info menu have introduced additional text lines. Consequently, we have prioritized finalizing these aspects before completing the remaining text work. We have now successfully achieved this milestone, and our colleague Rea is in the process of editing the last of the text. Following this, we can proceed with the game's localizations.

In terms of translations, our colleagues Raffael, Jose, and Almos have already completed the German, Portuguese-Brazil, and Hungarian translations. Thus, five out of the planned 12 languages are already integrated into the game.

Finally, we have commenced work on sound design. Our sound designer has concluded his work on Age of Defense, allowing him to dedicate time to Guards 2.

All these developments signify that Guards II no longer has any unresolved issues. We're now just a few weeks away from completing all the work. We appreciate your continued support, and you'll be able to play the game soon!

Guards II News #16. Settings menu and First Feedback

Hello there,

We are diligently polishing the game, and we have some exciting updates to share. We've added the final missing piece to the game, the settings menu, which you can preview in the image above. Additionally, we've made the decision to incorporate hotkeys as another option for playing the game. With the addition of these menus, we're now in the phase of fine-tuning and perfecting the game.

In other positive news, we've distributed the game for testing to 15 individuals, and we've received a wealth of valuable feedback. Our team is currently working on implementing various improvements based on this feedback. To address player concerns, we've decided to include an option to reset upgrades, which can be especially helpful when players reach the challenging World #4.

We've made several enhancements to various menus. The Upgrade, Item, and Skill menus now feature a currency icon on the purchase button, as some players encountered difficulties with this aspect. We've also introduced animations to these buttons.

To clarify game mechanics for players, we've added tooltips to all icons. Additionally, we've decided to include a Help menu in the game, providing an alternative way to explain the core game mechanics, which we will present in the future.

To make it clear which missions are new, we've incorporated eye-catching pentagram animations in two different colors. It's now nearly impossible to miss them.

We've improved the visual elements of button highlighting by adding an additional striking border and effect.

Furthermore, we've made balance adjustments by shortening some missions and making them easier. We addressed concerns from players who found the game too lengthy and sought to make it more enjoyable.

Finally, we've made alterations to the game speed settings. There are now three options: new Slow Speed, which is equivalent to the old Fast Speed; New Normal Speed, with no delays between animations; and New Fast Speed, which accelerates all animations by 50%.

P.S. On the musical front, we have already commenced the creation of music for Guards II. Two composers are currently working on it, and another will commence sound design next week.
