Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers News

Now live: v0.16b of the demo!

Another batch of quality-of-life improvements that make the game feel much better.

New stuff:
- big performance upgrades, in particular this should improve performance with: large decks, when moving lots of cards, and during the damage animation

Clarity and visual improvements:
- allow deck/draw/discard/Hall Pass style previews to be dismissed by clicking in the dark region below the cards, or clicking the escape key
- card change indicators are not longer shown when previewing a pile
- updates Blood Donor description to:
On play: Locks. While in play: whenever you play a card worth at least one heart, remove 1 from its value for the rest of the encounter and heal you by 1.

Bug fixes:
- a bunch of tidy ups to the settings screens and reading save game and settings files that fix issues with not being resilient to save game file errors
- fixes a bug where if Loyalty Card had a non-zero value it would not set the score to match bust limit correctly
- fixes a bug where Wheel of Fortune spinning animation would play when previewing a pile that contained it
- speeds up Wheel of Fortune animation

Now live: v0.16 of the demo!

A smaller update this time, tidying up a couple of things after the big Lounge release.

New stuff:
  • much juicier and more satisfying hit and stand button animations
  • nicer animation for earning chips
  • new click animation for the cursor
  • XXI The World rework:
  • Now triggers its effect on stand
  • When it chooses a random Tarot card it will now choose from all Tarot cards that have not been chosen by this copy of The World in this encounter. This means that it will go through all 22 Tarot cards before selecting the same one again, making it much less likely to (for example) draw 2x III The Empress leading you to be stuck with 2x 11 of Hearts locked forever. It also ensures the variety of XXI The World which is really the reason to play it anyway!
  • Now visually moves the newly created Tarot card into the draw pile

Clarity and visual improvements:
  • changes art for all suits at once to more clearly be a mash up of all four suits
  • adds a disabled theme so buttons look better when disabled after clicking them (i.e. during transition after skipping a reward)
  • sound volume settings now go back to zero if you click them again while they are 10 (so that touch screen users can reduce the volume)
  • better alignment of buttons and labels in the settings screen

Bug fixes:
  • fixes a bug with the Dark Mage where it could be used with no valid targets to skip the player’s turn
  • fixes a bug with the SD Card where if an opponent used it the on play effect of the new card would not be enacted
  • fixes the shop ID Card being 2 pixels lower than all the other ID Cards
  • fixes a bug where you could set your health to 0 by losing hp in the Sofa Sleeper event
  • fixes a bug where you could crash the game by clicking the same card twice in the Memory game event
  • changes the name of the Paparazzi (plural) to the correct Paparazza (singular, female)
  • potential fix for touchscreen inputs being counted twice in some cases causing the player to skip the next encounter/event

Now live: v0.15 of the demo - the Lounge!

Finally, the Lounge is here!
This is by far the biggest update I’ve ever released for the game, and I’m really excited to see how you all play with the new cards, encounters, and events.
Thank you for your continued support, it is so motivating to see how much people are enjoying the game!

New stuff:
  • unlocks the Lounge!!!
  • the Lounge has 6 new encounters: Card Shark, Luck Pusher, Teacher, Paparazzi, Gambler, and Bouncer
  • and 3 new events: Sofa Sleeper, Three Card Monte, Memory
  • adds a change indicator to the score card that shows what your new max score is when it is changed
  • adds bust limits to the Score Cards so you always know the current bust limits
  • adds a change indicator to cards when their value is changed
  • adds a new card burning animation
  • when you lose chips diamond icons will now move from the ID Card to the card that made you lose chips
  • updates card art for a few cards that were hard to differentiate when bunched up tightly (Valentines Card, 10s, 11s, 12s, 13s, 21s, Rules Card, Jack in a Box, Kanban Card)

New cards:
- Pi of Spades | Clubs | Diamonds | Hearts
On play: Set the value of this card to 3. On stand: If you are below your bust limit, increase the value of this card by 1.

- Half a Spade | Club | Diamond | Heart
On play: Set the value of this card to 0. On stand: If you are below your bust limit, increase the value of this card by 1.

- Green Card
On play: Choose a card from your play or discard pile to put into your opponent’s draw pile.

- Insurance Card
On bust limit exceeded: lose 50 chips, burn your most recently played card that isn’t this card, and burn this card.

- Library Card
On play: Locks. Choose a card from opponent's draw pile and put it in your draw pile. Every time that card is discarded you lose 5 chips.

- Flash Card
On play: randomly select a number from 1 to 10. While in play: can be clicked to change the value of this card to the selected number.
Balance changes:
  • changes playing a card from your hand to act as taking your turn
  • support for stand points other than 4 under bust limit
  • Loyalty Card and Trump Card now set your score to match your bust limit (instead of 21)
  • Negative Aces reworked - they now behave like regular Aces - i.e. they will reduce their value automatically on bust limit exceeded rather than having to pick -1 or -11 when played
  • adds the 4 cards created by Terminate the Tower to the card reward pool
  • adds a Scratch to Alucard's deck so that this encounter can't go infinite
  • gives Alucard a 13 and 21 of Hearts, and changes his hp from 50 to 52
  • changes XIII Death to have a value of 13

Clarity and visual improvements:
  • visually moves the Kanban Card into the draw pile
  • visually moves Jack of all Trades created by VIII Justice into the draw pile
  • hit and stand buttons are now hidden during the loss animation
  • intent indicator is now hidden after you win or lose
  • disables the stand button when there are no cards in the play pile
  • Magic Trick Card now changes base to base Magic Trick Card art on play so that it’s clearer that it is worth 0 until a choice is made
  • adds choice text for Yellow Card
  • flips the portraits for: Poker Player, Manager, Slime

Bug fixes:
  • fixes a bug where choice helper text wasn’t showing for Rules Card, Charred Lizard, and Scratchcard
  • fixes a bug where you could click cards in your hand while they were burning
  • fixes a bug where Jack in Box that selected "nothings" as its suit would say "special" instead
  • fixes a bug where Gravecard number was in front of Card-aver hand
  • fixes a bug where cards that put other cards into the draw pile could never put that card on the bottom of the draw pile
  • fixes a bug where having multiple Blood Donor Cards would only trigger the healing and reduction effect once
  • fixes a bug where Glitched Card wouldn’t play its effect when played from hand or from Booster Pack
  • fixes a bug where The Devil damage multiplier was being applied before clubs were added to the damage dealt
  • fixes some inconsistencies with burning the Ones creates by Dark Flower
  • fixes some weirdness to do with swapping piles with Reverse Card and 0 The Fool
  • fixes a bug where cards that were shrouded would show their name and description when choosing from them (e.g. when XVIII The Moon in play and then a Business Card played)
  • fixes a bug where cards played from hand would not trigger Time Card or Blood Donor Card
  • fixes a bug where the "enter next area" card description didn't have a space between "underground" and "casino"
  • fixes an issue where score was updating too often, causing Credit Card to briefly bust you

Now live: v0.14 of the demo!

This release brings a new card and lots of QoL and clarity improvements!

New stuff:
- new card: Jack in a Box - On play: Randomly select a suit to change this card's suit to.
- adds keyboard controls for hitting (spacebar) and standing (enter)

Busting, and the effect of busting is now much clearer:
- adds a big red cross to your Score Card when busted
- plays a sound effect when you or your opponent bust
- a new animation when comparing the Score Cards that makes it clear that you have 0 points after busting

Bug fixes:
- fixes a bug where switching between hovering The Collectors cards very quickly during the Trade Offer event could crash the game
- fixes a bug where Jack of All Trades would always grant blackjack effects for 10 of each suit instead of the current value of the Jack
- fixes a bug where the double damage granted by XVII The Star would be carried to the next round if the previous round ended in a draw
- moves clubs being added to damage to be before XVII The Star and XVIII The Moon multipliers applied
- you can longer see the corners of the Booster Pack hiding behind the mystery card reward
- clarifies that value doubling from Break Limits lasts for the rest of the encounter

Now live: v0.13 of the demo!

New cards:
- adds Yellow Card and Red Card to the game!

Yellow Card:
On play: Choose a card in opponent's play pile to mark with a Yellow Card, then put a Red Card into your draw pile.

Red Card:
On play: Burn any cards in your opponents play pile that are marked with a Yellow Card. On discard: Burns.

New stuff:
- adds an ‘intent indicator’ to the opponent. This will show you when the opponent has already stood (and cannot take further actions) and what limit they will stand at
- finally, a new and much improved cursor!
- changes Blank Card effect to: “On 1st play this encounter: choose the value (from 1 to 11) for the Blank Card to take for the rest of this encounter.”
- the escape key now pauses the game just like clicking the land card would. Note that this is only possible when the land card is clickable

Bug fixes:
- cards that add a card into the draw pile now insert it to a random position in the draw pile rather than shuffling the whole draw pile. This means that cards like Cue Card and Kanban Card work more consistently (unless of course the new card is inserted between Kanban and the chosen card)
- card description updates to match the above change
- cards now longer reset their art or suit to the default for that card when discarded
- Glitched Card now correctly retains its suit, value, name after discarding
- makes the card art of several cards match the recent font improvements
- clarifies The Devil description (you need a winning blackjack to deal 6x damage)
- fixes a bug where Loyalty Card wouldn’t set score to 21 if it’s value was not 0
- fixes a bug where Gravecard that was swapped to opponents side could be rerolled endlessly
- Memory card now visually moves the copied card into draw pile
