Sunderfolk is now Steam Deck Verified!

Hey Guardians!

We are so excited to announce that Sunderfolk is now officially verified for the Steam Deck. Now you can take your Sunderfolk journey wherever you go!

Ever since we made our initial announcement, we’ve been working to get that official verification and now it’s here!

Please note, there is one remaining hitch we’re still looking into!

 • If your Steam Deck goes to sleep while playing, you may have trouble reconnecting to the game after it wakes up again. For now, we recommend you disable auto-sleep on your Steam Deck while playing Sunderfolk.

We are working on a fix for a future release, so stay tuned!

Enjoy your wandering adventures in Arden and beyond!

Beginner's Guide to Sunderfolk

Hey Guardians! Are you ready to jump into Sunderfolk?

No? Well good thing you stopped by here first!

Here you’ll find everything you need to know to get ready to leap into the Sunderlands and save Arden!

YES, "LEAP" WAS LITERAL
Starting Your Campaign
Once you’ve chosen your friends to party with you (or are undertaking this adventure solo) you’ll start up Sunderfolk, and create a new campaign by scanning the QR code shown with your Sunderfolk Controller App!

Tip: Playing remotely with friends and need some help? Check out our handy Remote Guide for those Sunder-friends who are physically apart!

Once everyone has connected to the game by scanning their phone or tablet with the Controller App, then you’re ready to watch the intro cutscene and begin your Sunderfolk journey!
Choose Your Character
The playable characters of Sunderfolk have many titles, but they all share the same mission—to protect the townsfolk of Arden. There are six different characters to choose from, all with their own unique playstyle that fills a vital role within a party.

 • The Arcanist - Master the intricacies of the arcane!
 • The Bard - Inspire and deceive with MUSIC!
 • The Berserker - Channel your Rage and demolish foes!
 • The Pyromancer - Engulf everything in red-hot flames!
 • The Ranger - Hunt your opponent from a distance!
 • The Rogue - Devastate prey with devious attacks!
Tip: Need a thorough guide on all of the heroes before making your decision? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

Dibs on the Pyromancer!
Combat in Sunderfolk
Sunderfolk utilizes party turn-based, strategy combat separated into Rounds. Each Round of combat encompasses:
 • Character Turn - You and your party members take their turns
 • Monster Turn - Your foes take their actions
 • Ally Turn - If you have NPC allies, they’ll act here

There are no turn orders for your and your party, allowing for flexibility in your strategies!

Though we do recommend making sure the Berserker takes all the damage.
We’ve Put a Hex On You(r grid)
As you may have noticed above, Sunderfolk utilizes a hexagonal grid for the battlefield! This opens up a lot of possibilities, namely for the term “adjacent”! You’ll see that a lot in your character Skill Cards!

Drop YOUR favorite grid-shape system in the comments below!

An enemy (or ally) can be adjacent to you as long as the hex tile that they are on is touching your hex tile!

These tiles can also have environmental hazards (sometimes caused by party members), and some are baked into the map itself!

Tip: When you move, each hex tile counts as one movement! Pushing an enemy or swapping with an ally also counts as one movement.
Mission Guide
Once you’re in a Mission, you can view your character Skill Cards, passives, equipped items, and remaining Fate Cards all in one place! The guide will also show enemy abilities, their own Skill Cards, and any environmental hazards such as Lava and Slime!

Who needs memorizing rules and passives when it’s all in front of you?
Town and Upgrades
The town of Arden is where our heroes reside, and your main focus is to defend it from forces that seek to destroy it. However, within its walls await colorful residents who are happy to provide services and conversation! Think of it as your refuge in-between combat missions.

Once in town, you’ll be able to:
 • Befriend and deepen relationships with the townsfolk.
 • Rebuild and upgrade Buildings.
 • Craft and purchase equipment.

Each building you rebuild and upgrade will offer a new bonus for your adventuring needs!
Equipment
Equipment in Sunderfolk is focused between 3 core types:
Trinkets
• Trinkets offer extra boosts for combat. They range from dealing damage to nearby foes, buffing, or even healing you.
 • You can earn Trinkets by looting them after they’re dropped by defeated enemies, crafted in the Workshop, or purchased in the Market.
 • The Workshop must be built in order to craft and upgrade Trinkets.
Meals
• Meals offer extra buffs for combat missions, such as gaining 1 Shield buff if you end your turn next to an ally.
 • You can purchase Meals at Sinclair’s Tavern once it’s rebuilt.
 • The menu will change each time a Mission is completed, so don’t expect the same one each time.
Weapons
• Weapons are powerful tools that you receive once you’ve leveled up and rebuilt the Smithy.
 • Weapons can only be activated after completing their “Energize” requirement. These can range from dealing a certain amount of damage or having an ally take damage near you.
 • Weapons can offer different options for your build, such as giving you an extra movement if you complete their Energize requirement.

Once you’re equipped with your gear, you can take on any challenge in the Sunderlands!

Now you’re geared, equipped, and ready for an adventure! Have more questions? Ask away in the comments below!

Sunderfolk Update #1 - 1.2 Patch Notes & Summary

Hey Guardians!

Our first post-launch patch for Sunderfolk focuses on fixes for a few bugs and generally improves your Sunderfolk Controller experience! Thank you for your help in finding and squashing these bugs! (Don’t tell Esi)
Priority Fixes

Stuck on “Press Any Key” Splash Screen
• Made improvements to handling certain networking situations where some players may have been unable to continue past the "Press Any Button" startup splash screen.

While we've made improvements in our networking, there are more improvements / fixes coming in future patches we are actively working on. Specifically:
 • In some situations, players may see a blank QR code on the main menu screen for a period of time before it properly updates with a valid QR code.
 • Some Steam Deck players have also reported being unable to bypass the startup screens (logos / splash screen). We are actively investigating those reports and working on a fix.
Arcanist “Stargate” Softlock
• Fixed an issue where players may have experienced a softlock after an Arcanist uses their “Stargate” ability on Wurmsbait [to teleport to the second island] during the mission “Wurmsbait’s Mischief”.
Updated Incorrect/Mismatched Fate Card Text
• Adjusted text on one of the Bard’s Negative Fate Cards to correctly indicate its intended effect.
 • The original text “A random Hero or Ally in Range 3 of you Heals 3” has now been changed to “Choose a Target in Range 3 to Heal 3”
 • The Negative Fate Card “-2 Damage, Blind Each Monster in Range 2” now correctly inflicts Blind instead of Provoked.
Berserker “Grisly Force” Skill Card Adjustment
• The Berserker’s “Grisly Force” ability now ignores any active Shield buff on the Berserker to deal the intended damage when the “Deal” action occurs.
Rogue “Penny Pinch” Skill Card Adjustment
• Fixed an issue where gold and loot did not always spawn on the map when a Rogue used their “Penny Pinch” Skill Card.
Rogue Chroma Fix
• Fixed an issue where the Rogue’s applied Chroma color reverted to default when gaining Evasion.
General Bugs & Issues Fixes

Missions
• The Ogre Queen no longer uses “Retaliation” when under the “Confused” debuff.
 • Enemies will now automatically lose the “Provoked” status at the end of their turn.
 • Fixed an issue where Bosses no longer clear the “Root” debuff automatically at the end of their turn.
 • Fixed an issue where enemies with Teleport and Leap abilities were gaining Haste buffs with the “Frenzy” passive.
 • Fixed an issue where Guard Bug Allies summoned from Trinkets no longer skip their remaining actions when swapping with a Hero.
 • Ally attacks will no longer trigger enemies’ Frenzy passive in Challenging or Shadowstone difficulty.
 • Chirp is now able to use their Move action after activating her “Bulldoze” ability and dealing damage to enemies.
 • [This is a story-spoiler: Read at your own risk] Fixed an issue where a Round Timer is missing in (“All That Glitters”), causing the missions to be blocked from progressing.
Character
• [This is a story-spoiler: Read at your own risk] Fixed an issue where Heroes would lose more than the intended one Skill Card when deselecting a Skill Card while under the effects of “Fear”.
General Bug Fixes
• Fixed an issue where players may experience a main screen freeze after changing settings during missions.
 • Fixed an issue where spamming the “+” add button on Character Select causes a softlock for players.
 • Fixed an issue that was causing looping conversations.
 • Fixed missing and broken audio events in-game.
 • Adjusted the description for the “Black Inkwell” trinket to match its functionality.
 • [This is a story-spoiler: Read at your own risk] The mission (“Sundered Shadows”) will be reset to start from the beginning if it was saved and players quit in-progress.*
*Developer Note: Some patches for Sunderfolk may reset the specific mission you are on at the time of the update, if we’ve made changes to how that specific mission works. This will send you back to town, but it will improve your overall experience with the mission. We’ll aim to give more advanced notice if these resets are coming in future patches. Thanks for rolling with it! 🎲

Don’t see an issue you reported? Don’t worry, this is just the beginning of our upcoming patches, so stay tuned!

Thanks for playing Sunderfolk!
