Devlog: Hands on

This weeks devlog of Decimate Drive is about the upcoming playtest and some of the new stuff that will be included.
Dangerous cargo
Every vehicle in Decimate Drive will be dangerous in its own way. Everything from speed, size to a 2 by 4 sticking out of one of the windows.
Pedestrian
An improvement I made recently was adding hands to the player. This adds a bit of polish to the game and has the added bonus of telling people new to Decimate Drive that you're definitely now the one driving.
Staying up to date
You can now see what I’m working on, what feedback I’ve gathered and what bugs were reported (once playtesting has started 😁) on the public roadmap.

Gameplay teaser & Progress update

This weeks update of Decimate Drive, a game set in a killer car infested city, has some gameplay footage and a status update.
Gameplay Teaser
Besides the short clips I've been posting on YouTube, I figured it would be nice to show off the gameplay in a longer video. Check it out:
Status update
Last week I finished up work on several gameplay levels, story levels and cars. In the coming weeks I'll be working on improving performance and play-testing. I look forward to seeing how some of the new ideas in the game play out.

Devlog: Peak 90s

This weeks devlog of Decimate Drive is about... 90s car adverts? Besides working on the game itself, I'm also thinking about ways to promote it. Since killer cars rarely feature in horror games, that's probably the thing to highlight.
Killer cars
For starters I put the cars front and center in key art, screenshots and clips. The added blood stains should make it clearer that the cars are the threat. That addition is an example of how you might sometimes change the game itself purely to improve its marketability.
A bit different
But I also came up with another idea. Decimate Drive is set in the 90s. And car adverts in that decade were... a bit different. They combined typical catchphrases (some funny, some plain bizarre), cars isolated on a white background and way too much text (some examples). I wanted to see if I could create adverts in that style for Decimate Drive.

The adverts show what the game is about. but in a different way than a screenshot or trailer might. So I'm curious to see the response they'll get on #screenshotsaturday. What do you think?

It was quite fun to work on these. Coming up with dubious catchphrases and trying to get the look just right. The initial design was made in Figma, the cars and overall aged look were made using Unity.

Devlog: Road Rage

This weeks devlog of Decimate Drive is all about the killer cars and the way they’ll behave.
Archetype
Each type of car will behave in a different way, a way which might feel familiar if you ever spend time in traffic. A bumper-sticker-covered family car will frantically use their horn to rile you up. While an old matte black SUV will blast loud music. Allowing an unassuming sedan to quietly catch you off guard.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
I'm regularly posting short clips on YouTube (and Twitter) to show off the latest progress on the cars and their behavior. Be sure to keep an eye on them if you're interested in Decimate Drive.
Beep beep beep
To make cars feel more alive and sentient, I’ve also been spending time on the sounds they make. You’ll hear a truck brake, reverse and switch gears as it gets into position to start chasing you again. Engine sounds should also give you a good idea of how fast a car is approaching you. Even when you can’t see it.
