🔥 Soulslinger: Envoy of Death is OUT NOW in Early Access!

Greetings friends!

The first stage in the development process of Soulslinger has finally been completed: the game is now available in Early Access!

It feels really good, because we've been working towards this moment for the last three years. And I really couldn't wait to finally share the game with you, and also watch all of you getting into Soulslingers boots to fight the Cartel in the depth of Limbo!

In the nutshell update published yesterday, you can find out more about the roughly one-third of all planned game content that included in the initial Early Access release of Soulslinger. We will complete the game in four major updates over the coming year and tell the story of the Soulslinger to the end:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you out there once again for all the feedback I have received over the past few months. So: THANK YOU! Because exactly this feedback was insanely valuable for me to make Soulslinger the game that it is today. ❤️

But please don't stop providing feedback! I want to make Soulslinger the best possible gaming experience it can be, and it would be awesome to have your further support. So if you have any feedback, please continue to post it in the comments, in the Steam Community or on our Discord server.

And that's it for now, friends. I hope you have a good time in Limbo!

Soulslinger in a nutshell: That's awaiting you with the Early Access release!

Greetings fellow Soulslingers!

Tomorrow is finally the Early Access release of Soulslinger! Woohoo! And while we're feeling extremely proud of it and confident that you'll have a great time (and can't wait to share it with you!), I think it's always a good idea to lay out the features of the game in black and white, so you know what to expect before spending your hard-earned money!

So without further ado, this is the Soulslinger: Envoy of Death Early Access release in a nutshell:

  • Soulslinger is a roguelite first person shooter
  • The game will release 8am PST / 5pm CET
  • We worked on the game for 3 years so far
  • The Early Access release contains roughly one-third of all planned game content
  • It is based on the latest version of Unreal Engine 5
  • The Early Access release includes the first realm, "Land of Memories"
  • It includes the first intermediate boss fight as well as the first "real" boss fight
  • You will fight 11 various enemies in Limbo
  • A total number of three weapons is included (two revolvers, a shotgun)
  • There is a total of 4 essences with over 40 active abilities and passive skills
  • You are going to visit 20 different maps
  • There are 22 unlockable Steam achievements included (good hunting!)
  • It should take you 3-5 hours to defeat the boss for the first time
  • Doing so will unlock two additional levels of difficulty ("Difficult" and "Insane")
  • The first difficulty adds a new type of enemy and opponents in general have more health, but you are rewarded with an additional craftable relic for completing this!
  • When playing on "Insane" you will die by only one hit (good luck!)

That's it for now! That's Soulslinger: Envoy of Death. Should we be lucky enough that you deem our humble opus worthy of your hard-earned money, we really really hope you enjoy playing it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it for you.

Whilst the Early Access phase we are going to add the additional content through a number of four major content updates, joined by QoL updates based on your community/player feedback.

This is what the Early Access roadmap looks like:

And that's it for today, friends. See you tomorrow in the realms of Limbo!

Wanted Dead or Alive #5: Corky "Dead Eye" McGee! 🏴‍☠️

Ahoy Soulslingers!

All sails are set for the Early Access release of Soulslinger, and in 2 days you will be finally able to enter the unforgiving realms of Limbo. Until then, I would like to introduce you to another "resident" of Afterlife. And as previously announced, the similarity in his name with a known game designer is is purely coincidental!

It's a pleasure to introduce you to Corky "Dead Eye" McGee!

As Soulslinger moves through Limbo, he enters a rather odd area of Limbo - rather than another Wild West territory, it seems more nautical in nature, more suggestive of a place like Tortuga, or a pirate cove. As he enters the area, he hears a raspy voice singing a sea shanty.

That is the introduction of Corky "Dead Eye" McGee, the mysterious pirate shopkeeper who sells items of suspicious origin to Soulslinger -- for a hefty price, of course. He even explains to Soulslinger that the "coins" he owns normally have no value -- but for some reason, they are of great value to him.

The area of limbo that Dead Eye is from is called "The Abyss", a sea far below the rest of limbo, where pirates, banshees and all sorts of other strange spirits reside. The coins have exceptionally high value there. However, Dead Eye has an odd relationship with the truth and his tales of the Abyss are often a bit too colorful and too fantastical, to the point that Soulslinger can never quite figure out how much of Dead Eye's stories are fiction and how much of it actually happened.

This was the last "Wanted Dead or Alive" update for the time being. But during the Early Access phase of Soulslinger: Envoy of Death, new characters will appear, which I will also introduce to you in due course. Properly, as always!

So long, friends. Have a great time!

Wanted Dead or Alive #4: Meet the Cursed King ☠️

Heya Soulslingers!

It's about time for you to meet another important character of Soulslinger: Envoy of Death. Those of you who have played through the demo have probably crossed his path already.

The fourth issue of "Wanted Dead or Alive" is all about the Cursed King:

The Cursed King is a monstrous king from a bygone ancient era and he joined forces with the Cartel and its overlord to survive. In real life, the Cursed King was once a powerful, almighty king, but even in life he gradually lost his power and eventually was driven mad in his empty halls.

His lust for power and control – which he thinks is equivalent to ruling in a kingdom – is what drove him into an alliance with the Cartel. Its lead knew all too well that if he satisfied the Cursed King’s lust for power, the King would be a valuable ally and a strong guardian of the Cartel's realm within limbo.

Next week's "Wanted Dead or Alive" issue will deal with a character that crosses your way more often on your runs through limbo. And even if there is a certain similarity in his name, he is not related to a well-known game designer. 😁

So long, friends. Have a great time!

The Loops of Limbo #3: Using the Essences of Limbo ⚗️

Howdy fellow gunslingers!

With this third and last "The Loops of Limbo" update before the Early Access release of Soulslinger, I will tell you a bit about how you equip and upgrade yourself for and during the fight against the cartel.

As explained in the last update, Soulslinger is a roguelite FPS. In essence, the gameplay can be described as follows: fight, die, upgrade, repeat. It's a run-based shooter in which you will die often, but every run brings progress. However, we must distinguish between temporary and permanent progress. So, lets hop into a little more detail!

Soulslinger's combat system is not only based on western-inspired firearms with a unique afterlife touch, but also on powers. There are a number of essences between which you can choose, and these essences mostly offer active abilities as well as passive skills. For example, there is the "Fire Essence", "Electric Essence", "Toxic Essence" and the "Shadow Essence". For the Early Access release there will be these 4 distinct essence classes in the game. Additional further essences will follow up until the full release.

The yellow icons are active abilities, the gray one is a passive skill

Before you enter an arena through a portal, you can see what reward awaits you if you survive the battle. This can be one of the various essences, but also other useful resources, bonus levels, secret arenas, etc. You don't have to commit to one of the essences, you can also mix the essences for your skills and abilities. The focus on one essence, but also a strategic mix of essences can give you advantages.

If you focus on the "Toxic Essence", for example, you can load your weapon with poisoned bullets that damage enemies, poison them and also poison nearby enemies with a wave. This active ability paired with passive skills such as increased poison damage to enemies or enemies infecting each other with poisoning can be very effective.

But you can also use the poisoned bullets in combination with a "Shadow Essence" ability: for a few seconds you can call two ghostly Soulslinger silhouettes by your side, that fire at random enemies and use the same poisoned bullets that you use. In this way, the damage of the toxically charged projectiles can be tripled. And of course it also plays a role whether you use a shotgun with only two shots or a revolver with six shots.

The setup mixes the poisoned bullets ("Toxic Essence") with two ghostly Soulslinger silhouettes ("Shadow Essence")

When dying you lose all collected essences and essence upgrades, because those are temporary. All resources collected, which you can use to unlock and upgrade relics and weapons at the workshop, are kept after the end of each run. This allows you to prepare for your next run in the hub world Haven and try out new combinations of weapons and the various essences on your next run.

As said, this issue of "The Loops of Limbo" is the last one before the Early Access release next week. But there are two more characters that I will introduce to you in "Wanted Dead or Alive" updates - stay tuned!

As the tension rises with each passing day, I really can't wait for you all to finally play Soulslinger: Envoy of Death.

So long, friends. Have a great time!
