DevBlog 17.August 2023

Hello fellow card gamers, this is our first of several developer blog posts for Skogdal. We want to show you a little bit of what we are currently working on, and how progress on the game is going.

Since we first made our Steam page public a couple of months ago, we have mainly been working on adding more content to the game, supporting more advanced gameplay mechanics and also of course making new art, both location background art pieces, and characters and card art.

Some of the highlights of what we have been working on are:
- Fuse cards draft event (certain combinations of cards can be fused together to make a completely new card), an example of this is "Flamethrower", which is a card made up of "Deodorant" and "Zippo", we try to have these combinations both make sense from real world experiences and also to be fun for the player to discover:

- Support for discard effects, discarding cards from your hand.
- Card removal events.
- More status effects.
- More advanced enemy behaviours, now having enemies that build up Strength during the fight etc.
- More interesting follower cards:

- New locations (we can't show these yet, but trust me, they look great).
- Card art!

Gamescom 2023
We will be present at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany next week. We are visiting the business area, and not the public area, as part of a Nordic group having a stand together. Our goal is to meet with potential publishers or funding partners for the game, and in general see what other people in the business thinks of our game. Getting a publisher is not a must-have, but if we find the right partnership, it would definitely be a benefit for us, to have someone help with marketing, funding etc.
Btw. we also made some really cool business cards for the event (I think we might have the coolest ones there):

The future
As you can see on our Steam page, we plan to release Skogdal during 2024. That is still far off, but we do want to have players test our game before that, getting hands on feedback is important for a game like this, along with building a community. We are working towards a Steam demo later this fall, and when we release that, we will also probably make a Discord server for the game, so watch out for news about that when we are getting closer to it!

See you in next blog post, in the meantime, enjoy some pizza:
