Director's Message: A guide for playing the game

Hello, this is the development team of The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily.

Thank you so much for waiting...
We’re so happy to announce that we have finally released the full version of the game.
This is entirely thanks to the warm feedback and countless messages of support we’ve received from all of you. We are deeply grateful from the bottom of our hearts.

Today, to mark the release of the full version, we’d like to take the time to once again highlight the game’s features and points of interest.
▼ Capture every enemy Commanders or Execute them!
The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily is a turn-based strategy game where you lead the small rebel force the "Scarlet Army" in a daring challenge against the overwhelming might of the Empire.

Victory in this uphill battle depends on one thing: infiltrating enemy territory swiftly and capturing or defeating enemy commanders.
This isn’t a game where brute force always wins the day. Instead, your success depends on devising strategies to outmaneuver the enemy using your limited forces.

Will you capture every enemy commander and recruit them to your cause to clear Scarlet’s name from the false accusation of assassinating the emperor?

Or will you slaughter the commanders without hesitation, staining your hands with blood as you march toward the path of a Demon Queen?

We will be breaking down the gameplay system of the upcoming full version of the game, and explain some of the elements that may help you in experiencing this strategy game.
▼Build Supply Lines Against the Empire
A key element of this game’s mechanics is the concept of “supply lines.”

- Lines that connect your Headquarters to your occupied outposts are called supply lines.
- Units stationed on supply lines automatically receive healing (supplies) each turn.

This lets you prepare offensives, hold out in long battles, and adapt your strategy as needed.

As long as an outpost is connected to the Head Quarter, it will recover each turn,
meaning it is absolutely critical for the Scarlet Army's survival to maintain supply lines.

In other words, this game is all about connecting, extending, and defending supply lines to defeat enemy commanders.

Since the enemy has their own supply lines too, battles become a contest of how to preserve your lines while severing theirs.

This ongoing struggle over supply lines is one of the core tactical systems in the game.
▼ You can’t protect everything... So what will you do?
You’re constantly outnumbered.
As your influence spreads, it becomes impossible to defend every outpost.
This is the harsh reality Scarlet faces as the leader of a rebel army.

As you see here, you cannot defend all of the supply lines when being attacked from all sides...

But Scarlet has one powerful advantage. The Stream Airship and Shows.

These allow for powerful strategic effects across the map:
- Stall enemy movement
- Disrupt enemy supply lines
- Boost friendly unit mobility
- Lure enemies into traps
- Flip enemy bases to your side

Use these effects to manipulate enemy movement and secure your supply routes.

Also, Scarlet and Lily will stream all kinds of bizarre, fun shows from the stream airship, spreading propaganda to shake the morale of enemy troops!
▼ A War of Lines, Not Land
Bases are not your territory, but just a line for supplies
(There’s no policy management of sorts in this game)

Instead of expanding territory indiscriminately, your best bet is to spearhead a direct supply line to your target commander and force a short-term decisive battle.
That’s how the outnumbered Scarlet Army finds a fighting chance against the Empire.

Your tactical choices—which outposts to hold or abandon, who to assign as the strike teams—is the heart of gameplay.

Anticipate enemy movements, abandon unnecessary posts, and rebuild supply lines to focus fire on the next commander.

This game is not about conquest but a game about strategically capturing or eliminating key targets.
▼ Delegate (auto-battle) or Command Battle: Your Choice
The game progresses taking turns between the enemy phase and the player phase. When you make contact with an enemy unit, the battle begins.

Enemy turns can be sped up for smoother pacing.

When a battle begins, you can choose to Delegate (auto-battle) or use Commands (player input)

Before the battle begins, you'll see a projected damage preview for both sides.
If the expected losses look too high for Delegate, you can take direct command to mitigate risk.
(Note: Auto-battle uses only standard attacks and does not trigger special skills.)

If you take direct control, battles play out in a three-turn command battle system.

Each character learns and upgrades skills (tactics) with RPG-like progression.
As your army grows, what you can do in three turns also expands.

Because of the three-turn limit, battles against powerful bosses may not be resolved in a single engagement.

That’s where wave attacks using multiple units in succession come into play.
Who goes in, and in what order, becomes a core strategic decision.

You’ll also find growth and character relationship mechanics, including:
- Leveling up from victories
- Upgrading your unit size at certain levels
- Building "trust" between units that fight together repeatedly

Build enough trust between units, and you’ll unlock special “Unison Skills” and character-specific "Unite Episode".

Befriend (capture) various commanders and enjoy building your own troops.
▼ Troop Count and Damage Output
In this game, each character takes on the role of a unit commander, leading their own squad into battle.

Because of this, as their HP (horde points) decreases, the damage they deal also drops, making it harder to achieve results.

That’s why maintaining strong supply lines and entering battle in peak condition is key to victory for the Scarlet Army.

On the flip side, this also means cutting off enemy supplies and chipping away at their HP will weaken their attacks in turn.

Sever the enemy’s supply lines, and engage their commanders when your forces are at full strength —
Pave your own path to victory with the tactics of a true battlefield strategist!
▼ What fate awaits the two…?
This game is multi-ending.

Will Scarlet and Lily choose to capture every enemy commander and bring them over to their side, in order to clear their names of the alleged emperor’s assassination?

Or will they cast aside all allegations and destroy the Empire themselves, without making a single ally?

There are a few other endings as well, but at its core, your choice to capture all or reject them entirely will greatly impact the fate of the two protagonists.
For your first playthrough, we recommend aiming to either capture everyone or execute everyone, as that will let you fully enjoy the story.

Also, depending on how and when you capture or execute each enemy commander, the characters' reactions and events will change in subtle ways.

Most of the story (including dialogue scenes) unfolds as a fully voiced drama, so if you enjoy the world, we hope you to try different choices!
(No matter how you play, the story will always move forward so not to worry!)

If you’re aiming to capture a specific commander, be sure to check their info screen. Capture conditions are listed in the enemy information, and you can plan your strategy accordingly.

Also, as mentioned in the previous story overview, Scarlet and Lily are a fixed couple in this game.
(Sorry, there are no branching romance options based on choices)

Instead, the game features a system where certain characters can build trust by fighting and winning together, gradually raising their “Trust Level.”

As Trust Levels grow, the pair will unlock special story episodes (Unite Episode) that explore their unique relationship, and may even learn powerful Unison Skills.

We hope you enjoy building relationships between your units and watching them grow together!

Each character has two Unite Episode partners, and these combinations are listed in the character menu.
(If you try enough, it's possible to view all episodes without replaying the game)

As you progress through these Unite Episodes, powerful Unison Skills will also be unlocked.
▼ Want a smoother experience?
When you first start the game, or anytime from the options menu, you can freely change the difficulty.

Strategy Mode
A tactical challenge for those who enjoy carefully planning their moves. Great for players familiar with strategy games.

Easy Mode
A mode designed for those who don’t usually play strategy games, with toned-down enemy stats.

There are no differences in content between difficulty modes, so we hope you’ll choose the one that feels most comfortable for you!

We hope this deep dive has been helpful!
(Sorry it got a bit long again…!)

The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily isn’t your typical land-expanding strategy game.
It’s a strategy game focused on supply lines, and about a small rebel force facing off a massive imperial army.

What kind of battle will Scarlet and Lily fight, and how will their journey end?

Will they find a happy ending, or become feared as Demon Queens——

Our biggest joy would be for everyone to see the good ending of these two with your own eyes.

Please guide Scarlet and Lily to a happy ending!

We hope for your continued support for

Fusing anime with grand strategy, new JRPG The Great Villainess gets early demo

Anime would seem like fertile ground for grand strategy. The epic space battles of Mobile Suit Gundam could be straight out of Stellaris. The mixture of political intrigue and battleground struggle make Legend of the Galactic Heroes like a Crusader Kings in space. And that's without mentioning the huge number of samurai epics (animated and otherwise) that games like Total War: Shogun have pulled from. But explicitly anime grand strategy games have been few and far between. The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily borrows freely from both grand strategy and the most tactical JRPGs, making a mix unlike anything you've ever seen before. You can check out a new demo before the game launches in less than a week.
