Dev Blog Vol. 2 - Introducing: Union Skillsš„
[p]Hello everyone,[/p][p]This is Toru Nakamura, director of Vivid World.[/p][p][/p][p]Today, Iām excited to share a peek at a brand-new battle system weāve been building behind the scenes: [/p]
šUnion Skillš
[p]This is one of the big additions weāre introducing as we push Vivid World beyond what we originally envisioned.[/p][p]I hope youāll like what weāre cooking up![/p][p][/p]
š Union Skill: A Bond Between Allies Turns Into Power
[p]Union Skills are powerful combo techniques that trigger when two specific units become partners.[/p][p]This āpartnershipā unlocks under a certain condition, but weāre keeping the details under wraps just a bit longerš¤«[/p][p](Itās nothing too complicated)[/p][p][/p][p]Once a partnership is formed, those two units will be able to unleash a unique Union Skill during battleā”ļø[/p][p]The screenshot below is still a work-in-progress, but the idea is simple:[/p][p]If both partner units are on the field, a special skill becomes available.[/p][p]And yes, weāre creating brand-new effects to give these moments the impact they deserve![/p][p]
[/p]
š So⦠Whatās a Partnership Exactly?
[p]Partnership is a one-on-one bond formed between units under certain conditions.[/p][p]Letās say you upgrade Unit A for the first time during a run. At the same time, Unit B is randomly selected as their partner.[/p][p]Once this bond is formed, itās mutual and locked in for that run.[/p][p]Even if you upgrade the unit again, their partner wonāt change.[/p][p]After all, it wouldnāt feel right if your *partner* changed on a whim šš[/p][p]
[/p]
š What Triggers the Union Skill?
[p]If two partner units are in your party and a certain condition is met during battle,[/p][p]their Union Skill will activate. It only triggers once per battle.[/p][p][/p][p]The kind of skill will be set according to the combination of their color symbols,[/p][p]adding another layer of strategic variety.[/p][p]And when it goes off, thereās a little cut-in to mark the moment.[/p][p]It feels quite satisfying when you pull it offšŖ[/p][p][/p]
š In Closing
[p]Union Skills arenāt just flashy finishers.[/p][p]They add a new layer of strategy built around team composition, tactical use, and timing.[/p][p]We wanted to bring something that combines both gameplay depth [/p][p]and a little drama of pairing two units together.[/p][p][/p][p]Weāre still refining and polishing things, but I hope this gives you a taste of the [/p][p]direction weāre heading.[/p][p]Canāt wait for you to try them out![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Thank you so much for reading all the way to the end![/p][p](And yes⦠I did say Iād post monthly. Sorry for the delay šāāļø)[/p][p][/p][p]For the next post, Iām planning to talk about one of the familiar faces from Vivid Knightš[/p][p]Weāve added a few more interesting features to their role this time around, [/p][p]and hopefully longtime players will enjoy what weāve done.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]See you in the next dev blog.[/p][p][/p][p]Toru Nakamura[/p][p][/p]
